    No full text
We have not written in-depth about childhoodgroups, ‚pubers‘, adolescents as wrestlers or strugglers or as in danger of or prone to violence or action violently in these article, otherwise you would have to argue necessarily for pedagogical concepts of learning, and, where applicable, considerations of curative or social pedagogy. But we do not want to carry out a modern kind of budo pedagogy“ (Petzold/Bloem/Moget, 2004: 78 – translation by A.E.].This quotation, which I stumbled upon in 2009 and which is embedded into a complex argumentation, marks the starting point of this paper. However, there is no claim to a theoretical foundation of a modern budo pedagogy. Nevertheless, different approaches and insights into this direction will be provided. That way, martial arts will be covered in detail based on the approaches of martial arts studies (cf. Bowman 2015). These are relatively new not just concerning working definitions and natural-cultural-historical narrations but also in the context of “mirrors or fragments of irritation” that appear and figuratively stand next to each other or are facing dissolution in a timid dance to, with, and into each other.Furthermore, existing pedagogical concepts and reflections regarding martial arts (cf. Funke-Wieneke 2013; Wolters 2014; Zajonc 2013), or comparative martial arts science (cf. Wetzler 2014) will be drawn upon, critically discussed and contextualized. The results of these processes will then be discussed in the context of the martial arts and self-defense systems put into practice by the author. These systems are called Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Kung Fu, Inosanto Kali, and Krav Maga. Simultaneously, challenges as limitations and possibilities of a pedagogical martial arts concept and project for the youth welfare service following SGB VIII will be contextualized, identified or hinted at (cf. also Barnickel 2009; Staeglich 2010). The project will be executed and reflected – because of “Ausbildungsschutz” only guiding questions for a reflection will be provided.https://www.fpi-publikation.de/polyloge/09-2015-ewald-a-bruce-lee-ey-bester-mann-oder-martial-arts-in-der-jugendhilfe-an/peerReviewedpublishedVersio

OBJECTIVE. The purposes of this article are to present a practical approach to imaging of common congenital and acquired diseases of the pediatric large airways with MRI and to describe the imaging findings. CONCLUSION. High-quality MRI of the airways is an increasingly feasible alternative to conventional radiography, fluoroscopy, and CT in the evaluation of many diseases of the pediatric large airways

Pediatric Chest MR Imaging Lung and Airways

    No full text
Advances in technology coupled with optimized protocols now permit evaluation of the lungs with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the pediatric population. Although computed tomography remains the preferred imaging modality for this purpose, MR imaging provides a radiation-free alternative that can answer many important clinical questions and provide additional data. In addition, the use of newer techniques and equipment such as MR-imaging-compatible spirometers allows for functional assessment of the pediatric airways. This article reviews the up-to-date MR imaging techniques as well as imaging findings of selected clinically important disorders that affect the lungs and airways in the pediatric population

Workload and waiting time analyses of MAP/G/1 queue under D-policy

We study the workload (unfinished work) and the waiting time of the queueing system with MAP arrivals under D-policy. The D-policy stipulates that the idle server begin to serve the customers only when the sum of the service times of all waiting customers exceeds some fixed threshold D. We first set up the system equations for workload and obtain the steady-state distributions of workloads at an arbitrary idle and busy points of time. We then proceed to obtain the waiting time distribution of an arbitrary customer based on the workload results. The M/G/1/D-policy queue will be investigated as a special case.Korea Research Foundation Grant (KRF-2002-070-C00021

Pediatric Chest MR Imaging Sedation, Techniques, and Extracardiac Vessels

    No full text
Thoracic MR imaging in the pediatric population provides unique challenges requiring tailored protocols and a practical approach to pediatric issues, such as patient motion and sedation. Concern regarding the use of ionizing radiation in the pediatric population has continued to advance the use of MR imaging despite these challenges. This article provides a practical approach to thoracic vascular MR imaging with special attention paid to pediatric-specific issues such as sedation. Thoracic vascular anatomy and pathology are discussed with an emphasis on protocols that can facilitate accurate diagnosis

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
