Monthly climate variables of isotope-enabled climate model simulations over the last millennium (850-1849CE)
Here we provide climate fields in monthly resolution for five isotope-enabled model: ECHAM5-wiso (Sjolte et al. 2018, Werner et al. 2016), GISS-E2-R (Lewis and Legrande 2015, Colose et al 2016), iCESM (Brady et al. 2019, Stevenson et al 2019), iHadCM3 (Bühler et al. 2021, Tindall et al. 2009), and isoGSM (Yoshimura et al. 2008) in supplement to Buehler et al. (2021, submitted to Clim. Past. Discuss.). The model simulations were performed with different sets of boundary conditions as described in Bühler et al. (2021, submitted to Clim. Past. Discuss.) in line with the PMIP3 protocoll (Schmidt et al. 2012). We provide output for surface temperature (in K), total precipitation amount (in mm month^-1), evaporation (in mm month^-1), latent heat (in W m^-2), and oxygen isotope ratios of precipitation (in permil).
Additionally, we provide simulation output extracted at cave locations within the SISAL v.2. database (https://researchdata.reading.ac.uk/256/, Comas-Bru et al. (2020)). We include output for sites that pass the resolution and dating screening, meaning that have at least 2 radiometric dates (or are lamina-counted) and provide 36 oxygen isotope ratio measurements within the last millennium.In order to assure traceability, any presentation, report, or publication that uses the multi-model ensemble should cite Bühler et at. 2021 (submitted to Clim. Past. Discuss.) and the original publications of the respective simulations used
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Stable isotope and trace elements records from speleothems provide information on past climate changes, most particularly information that can be used to reconstruct past changes in precipitation and atmospheric circulation. SISAL (Speleothem Isotope Synthesis and Analysis) is an international working group of the Past Global Changes (PAGES) project. The working group aims to provide a comprehensive compilation of speleothem isotope and trace elements records for climate reconstruction and model evaluation. SISALv3 database contains 831 oxygen isotope, 588 carbon isotope, 94 Mg/Ca, 83 Sr/Ca, 51 Ba/Ca, 25 U/Ca, 29 P/Ca and 14 Sr isotope records from 837 speleothems from 364 cave sites worldwide, and metadata describing the cave settings and age models of these records. This version contains standardized age-depth models. There are also 51 datafiles containing trace element data and 246 image files of cave maps and entity scans.
In order to assure traceability, any presentation, report, or publication that uses the SISALv3 database should cite Atsawawaranunt et al. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Developing proxies in secondary carbonates with application to ENSO variability and basin-wide paleo-hydrology
This thesis develops new, and expands existing, methods of reconstructing paleoclimate from geochemical proxies hosted in secondary carbonate precipitates. This is done by: i) Developing a new multi-proxy approach for using lacustrine cave carbonates (LCCs) to reconstruct past shifts in precipitation-evaporation (P-E) over lake drainage basins, and ii) Investigating the suitability of speleothems as paleo-ENSO archives. Chapters 2 and 3 use modelled and measured values from LCC samples to generate a framework for understanding how Mg/Ca, U/Ca and δ44/42Ca in LCCs can be used as a combined multi-proxy approach to reconstruct past shifts in P-E. This multi-proxy approach is subsequently used to generate a novel reconstruction of P-E over the Bonneville Basin (a terminal basin in the Great Basin region of the southwestern United States), during Heinrich Stadial 1. Results suggest that moisture supply to the Great Basin region was impacted by a southwards shift of the ITCZ and variations in the elevation of North American ice sheets during Heinrich Stadial 1. Chapter 4 investigates the suitability of applying speleothem BA03 as a paleo-ENSO archive. Firstly, the impacts of age model and δ18O uncertainties on speleothem ENSO variability reconstructions are quantified. A total of eight high resolution (> 2 samples per year) δ18O time-series are then used to reconstruct shifts in ENSO variability over the Holocene. This new ENSO variability reconstruction suggests a reduction in ENSO variability during the mid-Holocene (5.68 kyr BP – 3.78 kyr BP), the termination of which coincides with the end of the so called “4.2 Kyr Event”. This thesis advances the paleoclimate application of numerous geochemical proxies, expanding the use of precisely dated, high-resolution secondary carbonate archives
