Nichtgleichgewichtsprozesse in stark korrelierten Elektronensystemen mit mehreren orbitalen Freiheitsgraden
In this work a time-dependent (TD) extension of the slave boson mean-field theory (SBMFT) based on the TD-Gutzwiller approximation (TD-GA) is introduced. It is applied to the single- and multi-orbital fermionic Hubbard model out of equilibrium in different contexts. The influence of orbital fluctuations onto prethermalization, frozen dynamics and the dynamical metal to insulator (Mott) transition is investigated. While prethermalization and frozen dynamics remain qualitatively intact, the dynamical Mott transition broadens into an extended region of critical behavior. Additionally non-equilibrium magnetic responses with multiple orbital degrees of freedom at or away from half-filling are revealed. On the one hand a non-equilibrium magnetic transition from antiferromagnetic to a paramagnetic state is encountered in a wide range of fillings. One the other hand longitudinal (transient) spin oscillations are revealed, where transient property and filling dependence strongly depend on the specifics of the ground state. This provides a preview on multi-orbital physics to unveil by upcoming non-equilibrium experiments. To demonstrate the applicability of TD-SBMFT on real materials V2O3 is considered. Recently an up to now unpublished ultrafast laser experiment revealed a non-equilibrium Mott insulator to metal transition in this material. Results of this experiment are qualitatively reproduced and the transition is attributed to a quench in correlation enhanced crystal field. Furthermore a real-space formulation of TD-SBMFT is employed. It is applied in equilibrium on the challenging physics of oxygen vacancies at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. On this way the competition is revealed between Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida(RKKY)-like, double exchange-like and superexchange processes depending on the number of vacancies. Key results of experiments at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface are reproduced underlining the vital role of oxygen vacancies concerning magnetism at the interface. Real-space TD-SBMFT is employed to compute magnetic excitations of the single-orbital Hubbard model. First a weak perturbation is considered. In the small interaction limit electron-hole excitations (Stoner excitations) are reproduced, while in the large interaction limit collective spin excitations (magnons) are recapped, both known from previous linear-response results. Afterwards strengths of real-space TD-SBMFT are utilized. Stoner excitations and magnons at intermediate interaction are revealed and their evolution into small or large interaction limit is traced. Additionally the perturbation is enhanced and the influence of the perturbation onto the magnon dispersion is investigated. This reveals perturbation-dependent magnon decay away from linear-response previously known from results in self-consistent Born approximation of the Heisenberg Spin model in strong magnetic field.
The subject of the work at hand is the combination of density functional theory, mainly in its local density approximation (LDA), with methods that describe many-particle effects explicitly. Suitable methods are in particular Dynamical Mean-Field Theory (DMFT), for which a quantum Monte-Carlo algorithm is used for the numerical evaluation of the impurity problem that is involved, and also the Rotationally Invariant Slave-Boson (RISB) technique. The combination LDA+DMFT or LDA+RISB, respectively, of the methods is nontrivial, notably, problems persist to extract a suitable correlated subspace from the LDA calculation, as well as to avoid double counting of correlation effects. However, the main focus is on the charge self-consistency of LDA and DMFT, which allows to converge the charge densities that emerge from LDA and DMFT to one self-consistently determined charge density. In this manner, self-energy effects that occur due to DMFT can directly couple back onto the LDA calculation and thus onto bands outside of the correlated subspace. Furthermore, this formalism obtains special importance for the calculation of total energies, which can be used for the estimation of phase stabilities. Concretely, the presented methods are applied, amongst others, to the material Vanadium sesquioxide (V2O3 ) and the comparison of its paramagnetic metallic and insulating phases, as well as to the material Barium Vanadium triselenide (BaVSe3) and the comparison to Barium Vanadium trisulfide (BaVS3).Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Verbindung der Dichtefunktionaltheorie, speziell in ihrer lokalen-Dichte-Näherung (LDA), mit Methoden, die dazu dienen, explizit Vielteilcheneffekte zu beschreiben.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Magnetische Adatom-Strukturen auf Halbleiteroberflächen unter Berücksichtigung starker elektronischer Korrelationen
Within this work, we have investigated several different realistic material and model setups, with the overarching goal to improve our understanding of the interplay between low dimensionality, spin-orbit coupling, electronic correlations and magnetism in realistic surface systems.
The Sn/Si(111) and Sn/Ge(111) systems have been known to differ in their properties despite the similarity of their constituents. From initial DFT calculations, we have constructed single-site and triangular-cluster models for both systems and investigated the influence of the substrate and local geometrical 2D-1U distortions, present in the Sn/Ge(111) system. Both systems were found to undergo a Mott transition at U values of 0.5 - 0.6 eV, with slightly higher critical U for the distorted Sn/Ge(111), which was verified by both DMFT and RISB calculations. The Sn/Si(111) system was found to exhibit a peculiar noncollinear 120°-like magnetic order by DFT calculations, a result corroborated by RISB. In Sn/Ge(111) no such order is present, albeit a nontrivial behaviour of nearest-neighbour spin-spin
correlation functions is found close to the Mott transition.
In the second part of this work, the Hubbard bilayer model and the two-impurity Anderson model with added Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions were investigated in the strongly correlated metallic regime using the RISB technique. For the Hubbard bilayer at half-filling the DM interaction is found to significantly increase in strength in presence of electronic correlations. In the hole-doped strongly correlated regime, a novel noncollinear spin-flop phase is found which is brought about by the presence of the DM interaction and through which long-range magnetic order is enabled in previously paramagnetic regions of the phase diagram.
Lastly, we have investigated the behaviour of magnetic impurities on the InSb(110) surface. The different magnetic adatom species (Fe, Co, Ni) are found to exhibit overall similar bonding properties, adsorbing in a 'trench' of the (110) surface. The Ni adatom system is found to be paramagnetic. The other two
adatom systems exhibit local magnetic moments of 2.3 and 0.92 Bohr magnetons, respectively. The spin density has a substantial reach perpendicular to the surface for the Fe/InSb(110) system while being contained to the surface in the case of the Co adatom. Analysis of the vacuum density of states above the adatom shows that the dominating spin character changes with increasing distance from the surface. This should prove important for more sophisticated STM models which explicitly include the adatom states.
The work presented in this thesis elevates the applicability of the calculation and interpretations of lattice susceptibilities of strongly correlated materials to a similar ground as that accessible to dynamical mean field theory supplemented with modern continuous time quantum Monte Carlo algorithms.
Numerical means are introduced to facilitate these calculations for multiorbital models and interpretations of the resulting general frequency and wave vector dependent orbital tensor susceptibility are discussed in terms of experimental observables and intrinsic fluctuating modes.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
