Hadley, discusses the transfer of Horace Kephart collection from the library of Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Western Carolina University. Horace Kephart (1862-1931) was a noted naturalist, woodsman, journalist, and author and promoter of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Lawrence C. Manni Oral History Interview
Dr. Lawrence C. Manni (1909 – 2002) earned his MD from the University of Michigan in 1935 and moved to Florida after working as the medical director of American Legion Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. In Florida, he took over the medical directorship of the Northwest Florida Tuberculosis Hospital in Marianna. In 1952, he became director of the W.T. Edwards Tuberculosis Hospital in Tallahassee and eventually became director of the Florida Tuberculosis Control Board. During this oral history interview, Dr. Manni recounts the history of tuberculosis in Florida. He describes the construction of the W.T. Edwards Tuberculosis Hospital and his experience running the Florida Tuberculosis Control Board. He recounts some of the challenges in treating tuberculosis such as drug resistance and non-compliance. Dr. Manni also describes treatments for tuberculosis, including various medicines and therapies
