«Parole, idee, sogni». Sui rami dei libri

    No full text
E finiscono. Mentre i libri restano

Enhanced Gait Phases Recognition by EMG and Kinematics Information Fusion and a Minimal Recording Setup

    No full text
The limited mobility of lower limb amputees highlights the need for advancements in prosthetic control strategies to restore natural locomotion. This paper proposes an information fusion approach for gait phase recognition using surface electromyography (sEMG) and kinematics data. Time-domain (TD) features were extracted from the myoelectric data and three data-driven models, specifically Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), were compared in three different input conditions i.e. sEMG features, hip angle, and their fusion. Gait phase estimation results averaged from 40 healthy participants during normal walking with 10 strides per each demonstrated that the proposed fusion approach has consistently outperformed (p<0.0001) the other two conditions achieving a maximum accuracy of 85.48% with SVM. The findings suggest promising applications in prosthetic motion control and rehabilitative exoskeletons, highlighting the potential for improved user-driven strategies in lower limb prostheses

The proliferation of research and applications of sustainable materials within society has seen a notable increase, leading to constant updates in product segments featuring sustainable materials. This trend is further supported by the growing awareness among the public regarding environmental degradation. Ramie fiber is one such sustainable material serving as an alternative to the dependence on cotton materials in the textile industry. Collaborating with Armonie Ronche from Universitas Padjajaran, the author undertook a series of processes to implement ramie fiber in a furniture product, emphasizing the creation of products with good market value. Over a period of four months, the development process resulted in a living room set where a combination of hemp fiber and teak wood served as the primary elements in the design, globally marketable, and modern Jengki-style furniture.

Novel gait phases recognition framework leveraging the temporal structure of the myoelectric activity

Objective. Reliable control of lower limb prostheses during gait using surface electromyography requires robust decoding of myoelectric signals to ensure safety and efficiency. Conventional myoelectric pattern recognition (PR) methods, which classify features extracted from each window, often yield inaccurate and unstable output, limiting their practical use. Approach. To deal with these issues, two novel temporal myoelectric-based gait phase recognition frameworks are presented. Temporal activation profile (TAP) considers a sequence of features extracted from consecutive windows, and dual activation shots (DAS) using features extracted from the current and a specific preceding window. These methods were tested on (1) publicly available SIAT-LLMD dataset of 40 healthy subjects under different locomotion conditions, and (2) two subjects with transfemoral amputation during normal walking. Main results. TAP and DAS significantly outperformed conventional PR methods, achieving accuracies of 88.50% and 87.97%, respectively, in healthy subjects during normal walking. TAP achieved optimal performance using features extracted from consecutive windows spanning 240 ms in the past, whereas DAS performed best when leveraging features from the current window combined with those from a window 160 ms prior. No significant differences were observed between TAP and DAS under optimal conditions. Both approaches effectively enhanced gait phase recognition performance when applied to transfemoral amputee gait data. The TAP framework achieved the highest performance, surpassing 87.80% accuracy with extended temporal context requirement, and outperforming the DAS approach (82.32%) under pathological conditions. Significance. Both TAP and DAS are robust solutions for gait phase recognition as they stabilize the decision output and reduce classification errors. DAS is more practically feasible due to lower temporal and computational demands, while TAP is more effective in the case of altered neuromuscular activation patterns. The findings of this paper highlight the potential of integrating these methods into real-time prosthetic controllers, ensuring safe and reliable use for patients

Evaluation of dredged sediment co-composted with green waste as plant growing media assessed by eco-toxicological tests, plant growth and microbial community structure

Dredged sediments have currently no broad reuse options as compared to other wastes due to their peculiar physico-chemical properties, posing problems for the management of the large volumes of sediments dredged worldwide. In this study we evaluated the performance of sediment (S) co-composted with green waste (GW) as growing medium for ornamental plants. Analysis of the microbial community structure, eco-toxicological tests, were conducted on sediments at 1:1 and 3:1 S:GW composting ratios. Sediment-based growing media were then reused to growth the ornamental plant Photina x fraseri in a pilot-scale experiment and plants’ physiological and chemical parameters were measured. The results showed that co-composting with green waste increased the diversity of bacteria, fungi and archaea as compared to the untreated sediments, and that both the 1:1 and 3:1 S:GW composted sediments had no substantial eco-toxicological impacts, allowing an excellent plant growth. We concluded that co-composted of sediment with green waste produce a growing medium with suitable properties for growing ornamental plants, and represent a sustainable option for beneficial use of dredged sediments

The Kina Rami, a sect of aghori ascetics, take their name from Kina Ram, a Rajput Sant of the seventeenth century. This thesis examines the history and reform of the Kina Ram sect while placing it within the larger framework of heterodox Shaivism. Using an anthropology of religion approach, the author uses fieldwork data and observations to discuss the sociopolitical issues related to extreme religious behavior within Indian religion and to mount a critique of scholarship that would seek to locate such behavior solely within the framework of Brahmanical Hinduism. Finally an overview is presented of the reform of the Kina Ram sect under the influence of the modern-day saint Avadhut Bhagwan Ram. The author demonstrates the contemporary use of traditional Kina Rami heterodox symbolism within the context of Avadhut Bhagwan Ram\u27s reformist organization, Sri Sarveshwari Samooh. While these reforms are demonstrated to be continuous with the traditional goals of the Kina Sect, they nonetheless represent a new compromise position in relation to the larger Brahmanical Hindu tradition
