Association of waist circumference with atherogenic cardiovascular risks in centrally obese Myanmar male subjects
Central obesity is a major contributor to the development of cardiovascular (CV) risks. Severalatherogenic indices had been derived from lipid profiles for predicting the risk of CV disease. The present study assessedatherogenic indices as CV risk in centrally obese men.</p
Towards a True Author Entry System for CAI
CAI course authors have been faced with the disc tint problem of having to learn an instructional coding language before they can get their courses into the computer. A system has been devised so that an author may easily write his course in English on course planning forms and then a pre-processor will generate the coding which will be input for the machine assembler
Tienjarig overzicht 1981-1990 (afvoeren, waterstanden, temperaturen)
United Kingdom national cataract training survey.
A nationwide postal survey of all consultant ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom was conducted to determine attitudes and techniques of cataract surgery trainers, identify trainer-related factors that determine surgical opportunity, and ascertain whether trainers had received adequate training in how to teach surgery. The response rate was 43% (410/950). Seventy-nine percent of respondents were men; 46% worked in a university teaching hospital (UTH). University teaching hospital consultants provided more surgical opportunities to their trainees (P<.001). Surgical opportunity was directly correlated with number of vitreoretinal surgeons in the department independent of UTH status (P<.001). Eighty-three percent of trainers had received no formal training in how to teach surgery; only 12% of these expressed a desire to undertake such training. Further research is required to determine optimal methods for delivery of ophthalmic surgical training.Bausch&Lomb/Allerga

Minerva Terrace, Mammoth Springs Hotel and Fort Yellowstone National Park, Wyo., U.S.A.
MINERVA TERRACE, YELLOWSTONE PARK. Passing by Old Liberty Cap and ascending the hillside a few rods, we come to Minerva Terraces. For many years this was the most beautiful series of springs, with the most charming formation, in the entire series. The terraces, as a whole, protruded boldly but gracefully from the mountain side; each separate pool of water was a rich gem, as to tint and setting, and the margin of each pool was bewitchingly delicate, both in structure and color. The perpendicular walls--or "risers," as a stair-builder would call them--were elegantly carved, fluted, beaded, and grouped, and every imaginable color, shade, and tint, from alabaster white to jet black--and in most artistic combination--delighted the eye and charmed the soul. but a few years ago the throats of nearly al the separate pools of the Minerva Springs became so small that the water supply was insufficient. Accordingly, the colors began to fade and the delicate structure began to crumble into dust. Those who had repeatedly visited the park mourned the passing of Minerva Terraces. But recently the waters have broken forth again, through cracks near the old openings, and it seems probable that Minerva will awaken to a new life and become once more "a thing of beauty" and the delight of thousands of tourists who shall visit the park. She may fail of complete recuperation, for other springs in the vicinity may have fully established a claim to the waters that Minerva once enjoyed

Time-Sharing and Self-Tutoring: An Exploratory Case History
This study is concerned with the effectiveness of individual user performance for an extended self-tutoring task in a time-shared computing facility. The investigation is an experimental case history of one individual (the author) following the TINT self-tutoring user manual from beginning to end in the SDC Q-32 Time-Sharing System at a Teletype console. (TINT is a user-oriented dialect of JOVIAL, an interpretive language adapted to time-sharing with many self-teaching features.) The methodology featured measurement of natural user behavior in which the user served as his own control in successive console sessions. The sample included 1,861 user input commands collected over 18 hours at the teletypewriter terminal. The quantitative results revealed some evidence for systematic learning and reinforcement effects; there were progressive tendencies toward higher productivity and lower error rates with increasing TINT experience. The qualitative findings revealed that the numerous and diversified exercises facilitated familiarity with the elements and the varied services of the TINT system. The chief drawback was exclusive reliance of the tutoring method on literal reproduction of the text by the user at his console. The paper concludes with recommendations for more genuine interactive involvement between the user, the central system, and self-tutoring aids. </jats:p
Dyeing to Be Cured
By Ashley Buchanan Slipped within Anna Maria Luisa’s recipe collection is a small bound pamphlet that instructs the user how to tint or dye white marble various colors. In just sixteen pages, the unknown author details the ingredients, processes, and necessary apparatuses needed to create three different reds, two blues, three yellows, three greens, and even fake the signature black or grey veining of “pavonazzo” marble. While the secret to tinting natural looking marble was certainly valuabl..
Applied improvisation training for disaster readiness and response
Purpose – – The purpose of this paper is to introduce applied improvisation (AI) as a tool for training humanitarian aid workers. AI incorporates principles and practices from improvisational theatre into facilitation and training. It is an excellent modality for training aid workers to deal with crisis and disaster scenarios where decision-making and collaboration under pressure are critical. Design/methodology/approach – – This paper provides a theoretical base for understanding skills needed in disaster response and provides a case for innovative training that goes beyond the current standard. AI principles, activities and case examples are provided. Interviews with development experts who have participated in AI training are excerpted to reveal the impact and promise of this methodology. Findings – – Different from typical training and games, which simulate potential crisis scenarios, AI works with participants in developing the skills necessary for success in disaster situations. The benefit is that workers are better prepared for the unexpected and unknown when they encounter it. Research limitations/implications – – The current paper is based on author observation, experience and participant interviews. While AI is consistently transformative and successful, it would benefit from more rigorous and structured research to ground the findings more deeply in larger evidence based processes. Practical implications – – The authors offer specific activities, resources for many others and practical application of this modality for training purposes. Social implications – – Its application has tremendous benefits in training for specific skills, in creating greater cohesion and satisfaction in work units and breaking down culture and language barriers. Originality/value – – This work is original in introducing these training methods to humanitarian aid contexts in general, and disaster preparedness and response in particular
