Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. P18 | Face-off: shark or pig? Molecular authentication of typical products made from shark stomach and intestines available on the Chinese market, purchased online
Purpose. Accurate monitoring of the shark product supply chain plays a fundamental role in ensuring traceability, sustainability, and transparency for consumers. This study focused on evaluating the labeling and molecular authentication of foods that have been few-investigated, such as shark stomach (SH-s) and shark intestine (SH-i), available for purchase on the Chinese e-commerce market. In particular, the study aimed to assess the sustainability and potential implications for consumer health related to the identified species. Methods. The product search was conducted through the Taobao e-commerce platform. Sampling was conducted using a non-probabilistic approach. The price (converted to USD/kg) was recorded for each product and subsequently used to estimate the average commercial value for the two types of products. In the absence of a Chinese regulatory standard for the labeling of products marketed through e-commerce, the data reported in the product sheets available on the distribution platform were recorded. In addition, upon receipt of the products, the information on the label was verified against the requirements of the Chinese standard GB7718-2011 on the labeling of prepackaged foods. Molecular authentication of the products was carried out using DNA barcoding on a 655 bp region of the COI gene. Results. A total of 69 frozen products (48 SH-s and 21 SH-i) were selected from five provinces located along the southern and northeastern coasts of China. The market value of SH-s and SH-i was moderate (12.0–13.4 USD/kg). Analysis of online labeling revealed gaps in the commercial presentation of the products, which were designated exclusively by generic trade names (shark tripe or stomach, shark intestine), with no reference to the scientific name. Upon receipt, 91.3% of the products had no label; in the remaining 8.7%, partial non-compliance was found due to the absence of a list of ingredients. DNA barcoding analysis was successfully conducted on all 69 products, allowing molecular authentication of each product. The analysis found that 40.6% of the products belonged to the species Prionace glauca (blue shark) and 59.4% to Sus scrofa, constituting the first confirmed case of complete substitution of a fish matrix with one of terrestrial animal origin.Conclusions. The evidence gathered shows significant shortcomings in product traceability systems and raises concerns about possible economic fraud, serious violations of consumer rights, and potential risks to public health arising from the untraceable circulation of products that could contribute to the spread of infectious diseases and zoonotic diseases. These critical issues, exacerbated by the absence of a national regulatory standard for the labeling of pre-packaged and non-pre-packaged fish products, highlight the urgent need to strengthen traceability, consumer protection, and sustainability mechanisms throughout the fish supply chain

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Scopo: L’accurato monitoraggio della filiera dei prodotti a base di squalo riveste un ruolo fondamentale per garantire la tracciabilità, la sostenibilità e la trasparenza nei confronti dei consumatori. Il presente studio è stato incentrato sulla valutazione dell’etichettatura e l'autenticazione molecolare di alimenti apparentemente poco investigati come stomaco (SH-s) e intestino di squalo (SH-i), disponibili per l'acquisto sul mercato cinese in modalità e-commerce. In particolare, lo studio mirava a valutare la sostenibilità e le potenziali implicazioni per la salute dei consumatori relative alle specie identificate Metodi. La ricerca di prodotti è stata condotta attraverso la piattaforma e-commerce Taobao. Il campionamento è stato condotto con approccio non probabilistico. Per ciascun prodotto è stato rilevato il prezzo (convertito in USD/kg) successivamente utilizzato per una stima del valore commerciale medio per le due tipologie di prodotti. L'autenticazione molecolare dei prodotti è stata condotta mediante DNA Barcoding su una regione di 655 pb del gene COI. Risultati. In totale, sono stati selezionati 69 prodotti surgelati (48 SH-s e 21 SH-i) Provenienti da cinque province situate lungo le coste meridionale e nord-orientale della Cina. Il valore di mercato di SH-s e SH-i è risultato moderato (12,0–13,4 USD/kg). L’analisi dell’etichettatura online ha evidenziato lacune nella presentazione commerciale dei prodotti, designati esclusivamente con nomi commerciali generici (trippa o stomaco di squalo, intestino di squalo), in assenza di alcun riferimento al nome scientifico. Al ricevimento, il 91,3% dei prodotti non presentavano etichetta; nel restante 8,7% sono state riscontrate parziali non conformità, dovute all'assenza dell'elenco degli ingredienti. L'analisi di DNA Barcoding è stata condotta con successo su tutti i 69 prodotti, consentendo l'autenticazione molecolare di ciascun prodotto. L’analisi ha rilevato per il 40,6% dei prodotti l’appartenenza alla specie Prionace glauca (squalo blu) mentre per il 59,4% dei prodotti a Sus scrofa, configurando il primo caso accertato di sostituzione integrale di una matrice ittica con una di origine animale terrestre.Conclusioni. Le evidenze raccolte mostrano carenze significative nei sistemi preposti alla tracciabilità dei prodotti e sollevano preoccupazioni in merito a possibili frodi economiche, gravi violazioni dei diritti dei consumatori e potenziali rischi per la salute pubblica derivanti dalla circolazione non tracciata di prodotti che potrebbero contribuire alla diffusione di malattie infettive e patologie zoonotiche. Tali criticità, aggravate dall’assenza di uno standard normativo nazionale per l’etichettatura dei prodotti ittici preimballati e non, evidenziano l’urgenza di rafforzare i meccanismi di tracciabilità, tutela del consumatore e sostenibilità lungo la filiera ittica
