    Karakteristik Semen Segar dan Recovery Rate Sapi Pasundan pada Bobot Badan yang Berbeda

    Daging sapi merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan yang selama ini memberikan andil terhadap pemenuhan gizi masyarakat, khususnya protein hewani yang sangat dibutuhkan dalam menopang pembangunan sumber daya manusia Indonesia. Terdapat beberapa jenis sapi lokal di Indonesia yang dapat menghasilkan daging sebagai pemenuhan kebutuhan protein hewani salah satunya adalah sapi Pasundan. Berbagai upaya dilakukan untuk mengembangkan populasi sapi Pasundan agar dapat memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi daging yaitu dengan program Inseminasi Buatan (IB). Ada beberapa faktor yang perlu diperhatikan untuk mendapatkan semen yang berkualitas baik untuk program IB salah satunya adalah bobot badan pejantan. Semakin tinggi bobot badan pejantan maka ukuran testis yang dimiliki semakin besar yang berpengaruh terhadap kualitas semen yang dihasilkan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Balai Inseminasi Buatan Lembang, Bandung, Jawa Barat tanggal 22 Oktober – 2 November 2018. Data yang digunakan merupakan data sekunder penampungan semen sapi Pasundan selama 2 tahun 7 bulan atau 31 bulan terhitung mulai 1 Januari 2016 – 27 Agustus 2018. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik semen yang meliputi warna, volume, pH, konsentrasi, konsistensi, motilitas individu, gerak massa, motilitas before freezing, Post Thawing Motility (PTM), Recovery Rate (RR) dan produksi semen beku. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semen segar dari sapi Pasundan bernama Santang dengan kode pejantan (251302). Data yang telah dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji annova atau uji Kruskal Whallis. Sapi Pasundan diuji kualitas secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis. Uji makroskopis meliputi volume, warna, pH dan konsistensi sedangkan uji mikroskopis meliputi gerak massa, konsentrasi, motilitas individu, motilitas before freezing, Post Thawing Motility (PTM), recovery rate (RR) dan produksi semen beku. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh rata-rata volume terbanyak tedapat pada sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 500 - < 600 kg dengan volume 6,3 ± 1,79 ml dan rata-rata volume terendah terdapat pada sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 600 kg dengan volume 5 ± 1,9 ml. Pada hasil persentase warna diperoleh bahwa sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki persentase terbesar warna putih susu sebanyak 75 % dan persentase warna abnormal terbesar sebanyak 13 % jika dibandingkan dengan bobot badan yang lainnya. Hasil rata-rata pH diperoleh sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai pH tertinggi 6,76 ± 0,12 dan sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 600 kg memiliki nilai pH terendah 6,63 ± 0,15. Pada hasil persentase konsistensi didapatkan sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki persentase encer terbanyak sebesar 62 % , sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 600 kg memiliki nilai persentase sedang terbanyak sebesar 72%. Hasil rata-rata konsentrasi diperoleh sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 600 kg memiliki nilai konsentrasi tertinggi sebesar 1153,56 ± 286,39 (106/ml), sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki nilai rata-rata konsentrasi terendah sebesar 808,50 ± 374,36 (106/ml) . Pada hasil persentase gerak massa diperoleh sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai gerak massa 1 + terbesar yaitu 90% , sedangkan persentase gerak massa 2+ terbesar terdapat pada sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 500 - < 600 kg sebesar 55%. Hasil rataan motilitas individu diperoleh bahwa sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 500 - < 600 kg memiliki nilai motilitas tertinggi sebesar 59,0 ± 14,4, sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai motilitas terendah sebesar 45,75 ± 13,8. Pada hasil before freezing diperoleh bahwa sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki motilitas before freezing terbesar yaitu 61,67 ± 2,9 %, sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai rata-rata motilitas before freezing terendah sebesar 60 ± 0 %. Pada hasil rata-rata PTM diperoleh bahwa sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai terbesar 42,0 ± 2,9 %, sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki nilai PTM terendah yaitu 40,0 ± 0 %. Hasil rata-rata recovery rate diperoleh sapi dengan bobot badan ≥ 400 - < 500 kg memiliki nilai tertinggi 60 ± 0,04 %, sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki nilai rata-rata recovery rate terendah sebesar 57 ±0. Pada hasil produksi semen beku yang diperoleh bahwa sapi dengan bobot ≥ 500 - < 600 kg memiliki rataan yang tinggi yaitu 288 ± 94,67 straw/ ejakulasi, sedangkan sapi dengan bobot badan < 400 kg memiliki rataan terendah sebesar 141 ± 37,07 straw/ejakulasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa bobot badan memberikan pengaruh yang nyata ( P 0,05) terhadap parameter motilitas before freezing , Post Thawing Motility dan recovery rate sapi Pasundan. Disimpulkan bahwa bobot badan yang berbeda berpengaruh terhadap karakteristik semen yang diproduksi sapi Pasundan. Saran dari penelitian ini adalah penampungan semen sapi Pasundan sebaiknya dilakukan saat sapi berbobot badan ≥ 500 - < 600 kg karena pada bobot badan tersebut sapi Pasundan memiliki produksi semen beku yang tinggi

    Semen Production Characteristics of Pasundan Bull at Different Body Weight

    ABSTRACT. Pasundan cattle is currently proposed as a potential livestock to support national meat self-sufficiency program. However, the information regarding their reproductive performance is still very limited. This study was conducted to evaluate the semen production characteristics of Pasundan bull at different body weight. A total of 178 semen samples which were collected from one Pasundan bull were used in this study. The semen collection was done for 31 months and during this period, the body weight of Pasundan bull was classified into 4 categories, namely 400 kg, 400 to 500 kg, 500 to 600 kg, and ≥600 kg. The results showed that overall mean semen volume, semen pH, sperm concentration, total sperm, individual sperm motility, total motile sperm, post-thawing sperm motility, recovery rate of sperm motility, and frozen semen production were 5.89 ml/ejaculate, 6.69, 1.04 billion/ml, 6.04 billion/ejaculate, 55.75%, 3.40 billion/ejaculate, 40.91%, 58.20%, and 265.11 doses/ejaculate. The difference in body weight significantly affect semen volume (P=0.001), semen pH (P=0.001), sperm concentration (P=0.043), total sperm (P=0.002), individual sperm motility (P0.001), total motile sperm (P0.001), and frozen semen production (P=0.004). There was no significant effect (P0.05) of body weight on post-thawing sperm motility and recovery rate of sperm motility. In conclusion, the semen production traits of Pasundan bull are improved with the increase in body weight up to 500 to 600 kg and remain stable at the body weight of ≥600 kg.    (Karakteristik produksi semen sapi Pasundan pada bobot badan yang berbeda)  ABSTRAK. Sapi Pasundan saat ini diajukan sebagai salah satu ternak potensial untuk mendukung program swasembada daging nasional. Akan tetapi, informasi tentang penampilan reproduksinya masih sangat terbatas. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi karakteristik produksi semen sapi pejantan Pasundan pada bobot badan yang berbeda. Sebanyak 178 sampel semen yang dikoleksi dari 1 ekor sapi pejantan Pasundan digunakan pada penelitian ini. Penampungan semen dilakukan selama 31 bulan dan pada periode tersebut, bobot badan sapi pejantan Pasundan diklasifikasikan menjadi 4 kategori yaitu 400 kg, 400 to 500 kg, 500 to 600 kg, and ≥600 kg. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata volume semen, pH semen, konsentrasi sperma, total sperma, motilitas individu sperma, total sperma motil, motilitas sperma post-thawing, nilai recovery rate, dan produksi semen beku adalah 5,89 ml/ejakulat, 6,69, 1,04 miliar/ml, 6,04 miliar/ejakulat, 55,75%, 3,40 miliar/ejakulat, 40,91%, 58,20%, dan 265,11 dosis/ejakulat. Perbedaan bobot badan memberikan pengaruh terhadap volume semen (P=0,001), pH semen (P=0,001), konsentrasi sperma (P=0,043), total sperma (P=0,002), motilitas individu sperma (P0,001), total sperma motil (P0,001), dan produksi semen beku (P=0,004). Di sisi lain, bobot badan tidak memberikan pengaruh (P0,05) terhadap motilitas sperma post-thawing dan nilai recovery rate. Kesimpulannya, karakteristik produksi semen sapi pejantan Pasundan meningkat seiring dengan peningkatan bobot badan hingga 500 sampai 600 kg dan tetap stabil hingga ≥600 kg

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
