Portraits of Judyta in Rafał Leszczyński’s and Wacław Potocki’s poems The article deals with the peraenetic representations of Judyta with particular emphasis on how she was portrayed in the epic poems of Rafał Leszczyński (1620) and Wacław Potocki (circa 1952). The author analyzes the differences of portrayal of the biblical widow in Guillaume du Bartas’ La Judit and the Polish paraphrasing of said text by Rafał Leszczyński (Iudith). Those differences were influenced not only by political, but also by moral and social factors. The best example and proof of that is the shortened and modest (as compared to the original) description of Judyta’s beauty found in Leszczyński’s text. Key words: baroque; Bible; Judyta; paraenesis; Rafał Leszczyński; Wacław Potocki

The work of Vera Feyder, a Wallo‐Serbo‐Polish‐Jewish author as she considers herself, has been developing, since its beginnings in 1961, in the feeling of abandonment. The poor childhood of the author, due to the absence of the father, the poet Maurice Federman who disappeared in the concentration camps, and the mother, Elise who due to lack of re‐ sources, had to place her daughter in the sanatoriums or homes for disadvantaged children, exerts a certain influence on the author who during all her lifetime couldn’t recover from this lack, important for her and for her work. The Feyder’s récit de filiation appears at first as a barely disguised autobiography; it is then a projection of nostalgia and rancor, even of hate which is the part of the identity of the author; it is finally getting even with the past, including the historical past

Mecanismos de terror de Estado en el caso de los niños perdidos del franquismo: historia y nueva novela histórica

The purpose of this paper is to uncover the mechanisms used by the Francoist regime to seize the children of its political opponents, as well as to discuss the problem as depicted in contemporary historical novels. In order to achieve these goals, the paper begins with an inquiry into eugenics, as interpreted by the infamous Spanish psychiatrist Antonio Vallejo Nágera. Further, the author reviews the processes through which biological parents (and/or family) lost the legal control over their children, many of whom had their identities changed. Consequently, the analysis focuses on three new historical novels (La voz dormida by Dulce Chacón, Mala gente que camina by Benjamin Prado, and Si a los tres años no he vuelto by Any R. Cañil), which use the mediation of historical memory to recover the remembrance of the lost children of the Francoist regime

The article presents the performance Kronos, directed by Krzysztof Garbaczewski in 2013. The performance was an immediate reaction to the extremely intimate work of art written by Witold Gombrowicz. Garbaczewski is involved in reading and staging Gombrowicz’s work since 2008. The article highlights how the creative method presented in Kronos is portrayed by actors during the performance. Moreover, the author shows the phenomenon of poetry epiphany in the play, the coexistence of corporeality and the mind, the processes of tabooisation of the body and mediatization in the play. The author points to common points in the works of Gombrowicz and Garbaczewski. She also draws attention to how the writer’s authority is invoked, a process through which the director legitimises the theatrical exploration. The article presents the performance Kronos, directed by Krzysztof Garbaczewski in 2013.       The article is concerned with "Judyta", "Pojedynek..." and "Enchiridion militis Christiani…" – Potocki’s pieces, and works which inspired the poet to write them. The author focuses on two kinds of fight: spiritual and virtual, and on the characters who engage in the fight. Two kinds of pious knights are distinguished: the allegorical character, created in "Pojedynek…" and "Enchiridion…", based on the Erasmian topos militis Christiani, and the knight of God – disclosed in "Judyta", who has nothing in common with that topos. It is pointed out that anti-Turkish elements occur in "Enchiridion…". There are also analogies between the protagonists in these works and the knight of Christ from Piotr Skarga’s "Żołnierskie nabożeństwo" ["Soldiers' Devotions"]. It is stated that Potocki is Erasmian only to the extent that he refers to Arian ideology, and pious knights show existential dilemmas – especially their care for the country regarding various threats, including the Turks

From "Daniel ou Israël" (1987) through "Noir" (2000) and "Une Belge méchante" (2007) and as far as to "La séduction des hommes tristes" (2010) Françoise Lalande’s narratives aspire to give account of the history of human kind, not limited by any specific time or space. In her works, Europe’s history is mixed with history of the world, social with political history, the ancient one describing fate of the Jews with present times, giving account of the events happening before our eyes. The author, convinced of writer’s necessary involvement, reacts to all signs of injustice and brutality so characteristic for the 20th century’s history. Lalande tells us how to live the history playing, according to the author, a key role in creation of our identity. Something that she, as a Jew herself and citizen of the world, is fully aware of

Resisting the world. Historical declinations of contemporary identity in some Véronique Bergen’s novels

Fictional autobiographies of a Belgian writer, Véronique Bergen, describing fates of outstanding characters albeit marginalised by history (Kaspar Hauser, Ludwig II of Bavaria, Ulrike Meinhof), may be interpreted as a metaphor of a contemporary man’s fate, a man caught, often against his will, in a course of political or social events. The characters described here adopt an active resistance stand against life, the stand defined by Bergen in her essay "Résistances philosophiques", and manifested by striving to create one’s own, coherent world and a new language. In her reference to G. Deleuze, the author states that the said resistance is not only an act of existence but, also, an act of creation while creation of a new language involves, mainly, building of one’s own “I’. Identity of an individual is entangled within identity of a creator while reflection on language – with reflection on artistic medium
