Tailored SID & Profile Allocation for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
No full textCurrently, only one Standard Instrument Departure (SID) track and one flight procedure is used per runway departure fix combination. In contrast to tailored arrivals, the potential benefit of tailored departures has been left relatively undiscovered. The research objective is to quantify the potential benefit of tailored SID-s and profile allocation for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol by developing a model that is capable of simulating departure trajectories per runway departure fix and optimize the overall allocation of departing aircraft for noise and fuel consumption. The proposed methodology includes a two-step modelling framework. The two models involve the design of novel tailored departure trajectories using a multi objective genetic algorithm and the computation of optimal flight allocation by means of Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). The rotational structure follows a simple transition. No full textThis paper presents some of the main indices (Freedom House indices of political rights and civil liberties; World Human Rights indices) measuring the level of human rights in the world's countries. By means of principal components analysis, the author obtains six factors out of the original forty items of the World Human Rights. Similarities and differences concerning the values of the various indices in the world's countries are identified and discussed. In order to identify the possible determinants of these similarities and differences, the author analyses the impact of lagged income and educational development on the level of human rights in the world's countries
Social implication design (SID): A design method to exploit the unique value of the artefact to counteract social problems
No full textThe role of design in changing people’s behaviour and causing social implications has been referred to as an inherent aspect of design. In taking responsibility for this influence of design, emphasis is often placed on the prevention of undesired consequences rather than the realization of desired ones. Little research exists on how to exploit this implicit yet inevitable role of design in the social realm. This paper presents the development of a method to help designers in exploiting this influence of design to realize social benefit. We explain how design is part of the ‘choice architecture’ in social dilemmas and discuss methodological steps we derived from this. We show how the integration of these steps in an existing design method has led to the method Social Implication Design (SID). The SID method has been applied in a project to improve the social situation in a deprived neighbourhood. We discuss the process and the outcome of this and illuminate strengths and weaknesses of the method. We conclude by reflecting on this type of design practice in relation to other practices of social design, and discuss the unique contribution of the artefact when it comes down to solving issues of social kind.Industrial DesignIndustrial Design Engineerin

Hence a guideline in conducting SID-BSL is needed. In this study, the author compiled a simple technique of prioritization for SID-BSL procedure and applies it to a research on National Roads in the Lampung Province. The technique of prioritization is simplified with four phase activities namely Preparation, Initial Analysis, Detail Survey, and Detail Analysis. The analysis technique is based on the ranking of Black Spot Locations using weighted accident number (WAN). Application procedure is applied on 237 events of accident on the National Roads in Lampung Province resulting five selected BSLs to be treated according to the availability of funds

Evoking the Possibility of Presence:Textual and Ideological Effects of Linguistic Negation in Written Discourse
No full textThis thesis explores the textual and ideological effects of linguistic negation in written texts. It argues that when language users process negation, understanding its use in context is as much about the possibility of presence as it is about the actuality of absence. This gives rise to a variety of effects in texts from contributing to the construction of fictional characters to potentially influencing readers’/hearers’ view of the world they inhabit. This thesis brings together research on the theoretical aspects of how negation works to present a new approach to linguistic negation in written discourse. It also demonstrates how this approach can be applied in the analysis of the conceptual practice of negating. The approach presented is made up of three main elements; negation is presuppositional, is realised through a wide variety of linguistic forms beyond the morphosyntactic core forms (not, no, never, none, un-, in-, and so on) and includes semantic and pragmatically implied forms. These two elements combine to give rise to implied meaning in context. Having outlined this approach to negation, it is then applied in the analysis of literary and non-literary texts to explain the textual and ideological effects that arise from its use

No full textEs imposible pensar en el rock sin tener en cuenta los excesos en el consumo de drogas y alcohol, por parte de los artistas. Los sintagmas “vive rápido, muere joven y deja un bonito cadáver” y “sexo, drogas y rock and roll” muestran ese imperativo superyoico de un gozar sin límites, sin regulación. La presente investigación se propuso conocer cómo se articuló esa relación drogas y rock en un artista en particular. El objetivo general fue analizar las funciones que cumplió el tóxico en la economía libidinal de Sid Vicious, a partir de la lectura de su biografía escrita por Parker (2009) “Sid Vicious el ícono salvaje del punk” y de otras fuentes documentales, a la luz de los conceptos psicoanalíticos de orientación lacaniana Se trató de un estudio de caso, llevado a cabo desde el enfoque cualitativo de investigación, con un diseño de tipo narrativo biográfico. El instrumento empleado para llevar a cabo la recolección de los datos fue el sistema de fichero, lo que permitió la construcción del caso de Sid Vicious y su análisis interpretativo, organizado en cuatro categorías. Por último, se pudo concluir sobre la importancia que tuvieron sus pequeños arreglos compensatorios, como así también sobre las distintas modalidades de uso del tóxico y la función que cumplió en su economía libidinal. El tóxico cumplía una función particular, la de compensar el desencadenamiento psicótico. Sin embargo, fue su arma de doble filo, debido a que el uso del tóxico fue solidario de su empuje a la muerte.
It is nearly impossible to think of rock without considering the overuse of drugs and alcohol among the artists. The syntagmas ‘live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse’ and ‘sex, drugs and rock and roll’ show this superego imperative of unlimited enjoyment, without regulation. The current research aims to understand how the relationship between drugs and rock developed in one particular artist. The general goal was to analyse the functions that the toxic delivered in the libidinal economy of Sid Vicious, according to the biography written by author Parker (2009) ‘Sid Vicious: No One is Innocent’ and other documentary sources, from the view of lacanian psychoanalysis concepts system. This case study was carried out in a qualitative approach, with a biographic narrative method. The instrument selected for data collection was the file system, which allowed the case development and its interpretative analysis, arranged in four categories. Finally, a conclusion was able to be made about the significance of its little compensatory fixes as well as the different forms of toxic use and the task it performed in its libidinal economy. The toxic fulfilled a particular function, the one of compensating the psychotic onset.
