Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. The mentality of the Ukrainians have long been the understanding of the State exists as a family home, of his own house. This is due to a long tradition and features of Ukrainians as introverts, attaches great importance to, first of all, his private life, in particular in the family, and do not like to live in the community. This Decree Metropolitan raises a number of important issues: the Christian principles of life and their importance, educational church power, the native language in the creation of the State, the government and the people, the role of communities and associations in the life of the people, the concept of "Ukrainian monolith" in the message, the value of the one Church to nation-building. Each of them clearly stated and outlined in detail reasoned. No doubt the Metropolitan pedagogical value ideas as a modern high school brings up a generation of young people who, due to historical circumstances, are called to build a new Ukrainian state. Questions raised by Andrei Sheptytsky, are extremely relevant today, as his predictions about those or other failures in the process of creation of the state, unfortunately, are true. Metropolitan Lessons must be learned, and sufficiently clear guidance on the concept of building Native Hut, States must find expression in the construction processes of the State.Розглянуто сенс образу «Рідної Хати» в праці Митрополита Андрея Шептицького «Як будувати Рідну Хату?» В менталітеті українців здавна встановилося розуміння Держави як рідного дому, своєї власної хати. Це пов’язано з давніми традиціями та особливостями українців як інтровертів, що великого значення надають, в першу чергу, своєму приватному життю, зокрема, родині і не надаються до життя в спільноті. У цьому Декреті Митрополит порушує ряд важливих проблем: християнські принципи життя і їх значення, виховні сили Церкви, рідна мова в творенні Держави, влада і народ, роль спільнот і товариств у житті народу, поняття «український моноліт», значення єдиної Церкви для розбудови нації. Кожна з них чітко сформульована, окреслена й достатньо аргументована. Безсумнівною є педагогічна цінність ідей Митрополита, оскільки сучасна вища школа виховує покоління молодих людей, які силою історичних обставин покликані до будівництва нової Української Держави. Питання, порушені Андреєм Шептицьким, надзвичайно актуальні сьогодні, бо його прогнози щодо тих чи інших невдач у процесі державотворення, на жаль, справдилися. Уроки Митрополита мусять бути засвоєні, а досить чіткі вказівки щодо концепції будівництва Рідної Хати-Держави повинні знайти втілення в державотворчих процесах

It helps a student be not only a cultured person in general, but it also powerfully affects his intellectual capacity, improves emotional intelligence (EQ). Despite the fact that the consciousness of today's youth is formed in independent Ukraine, it has the imprint of post-genocidal totalitarian society where free thought is under a strict ban. It is an art that teaches to think freely and independently powerfully nourishes and forms this view, which proves identity of each person. The development of aesthetic tastes, feelings and aesthetic aspirations formation, which indicates a rich spiritual world of the individual, instilling constant need to contemplate the beautiful work on improving themselves - that this is our ideal, to some extent, and purpose of the program on cadets and students. Ways of development aesthetic feelings, tastes, preferences and aspirations could include clarifying the depths of the aesthetic content of any cultural phenomenon, which is studied by the program, updating problems of "potential content" that is a famous artistic phenomenon, using maximum impact of theatre and film art as a powerful aesthetic systems and others.У статті йдеться про одну з найважливіших проблем, яка стоїть перед сучасною вищою школою – сформувати спеціаліста, фахівця високого рівня, який має глибокі духовні запити, знає й розуміє мистецтво, літературу. Це свідчить про нього не тільки як про культурну людину загалом, а й потужно впливає на його інтелектуальні можливості, підвищує рівень емоційного інтелекту (EQ). Незважаючи на те, що свідомість сучасної молоді формується вже у незалежній Україні, вона має відбиток постгеноцидного тоталітарного суспільства, в якому вільна думка була під строгою забороною. Саме мистецтво, яке вчить мислити вільно й незалежно, потужно живить і формує таку думку, що є свідченням індивідуальності кожної людини. Розвиток естетичних смаків, почуттів, формування естетичного прагнення, яке свідчить про багатий духовний світ особистості, прищеплення сталої необхідності споглядати прекрасне, працювати над удосконаленням себе – саме це є нашою ідеальною, до певної міри, метою й програмою щодо курсантів і студентів. Шляхи розвитку естетичних почуттів, смаків, уподобань і прагнень можуть бути такі: з’ясування глибини естетичного змісту будь-якого феномена культури, який вивчається за програмою, актуалізація проблеми «потенційного змісту» вже ві-домого раніше мистецького феномена, максимальне використання впливу театрального мистецтва й мистецтва кіно як найпотужніших естетичних систем тощо

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFThe article includes analysis of topical issues related to the lingual cultural adjustment in the learning environment, formed with the participation and under the influence of people who speak different languages. An attempt to investigate the circumstances and communicative situations, the level of lingual cultural competence and language awareness of Lviv State University of Life Safety cadets and students has been made. The survey which was carried out among the cadets and students reveals a particular level of consciousness that affects the communicative behaviour of young people in different situations. Some cognitive, social and psychological reasons of establishing communication barriers have been found out. The study shows that the main cause of difficulties, misunderstandings and sometimes even conflicts are amorphous of youth national consciousness, a distorted picture of the whole range of language functions in human life, a lack of clear guidance on language policy at the national level and more. The article reveals the ways of improving lingual cultural and communication norms among cadets and students.Стаття містить аналіз актуальних проблем, пов’язаних із лінгвокультурною акомодацією в навчальному середовищі, сформованому за участі та під впливом носіїв різних мов. Здійснена спроба дослідити комунікативні обставини та ситуації, рівень лінгвокультурної компетенції та мовної свідомості курсантів і студентів Львівського державного університету безпеки життєдіяльності. Наведено висновки за результатами опитування курсантів і студентів навчального закладу, які виявляють рівень цієї свідомості, що впливає на комунікативну поведінку молодих людей в різних ситуаціях. З’ясовано деякі когнітивні, соціальні та психологічні причини виникнення комунікативних бар’єрів і зроблено висновок про те, що головною причиною труднощів, непорозумінь, а подекуди й конфліктів, є аморфність національної свідомості молоді, викривлене уявлення про весь спектр функцій мови в житті людини, брак чітких орієнтирів щодо мовної політики на державному рівні тощо. Йдеться про окремі перспективи щодо покращення ситуації в опануванні курсантами та студентами комунікативних і лінгвокультурних норм
