No full textIn December 2019, the city of Wuhan in Hubei became the epicenter of an unprecedented health crisis. SARS-CoV-2 is marking a watershed moment for sapiens. On the one hand, we are facing the most serious health emergency of the 21st century, on the other hand we are beginning to experience the negative effects of our development models that do not take into account the welfare of non-human animals and the systemic effect that our actions have on the balance of the biosphere. In the contributions hosted in this Dossier, the plurality of issues raised by SARS-CoV-2 comes to light clearly and distinctly. From bioethical questions to biopolitical issues, including an in-depth examination of the effects that the pandemic is having on society and on the capacity for selfperception of sapiens, we try to shed light on the countless consequences that this pandemic is bringing with it
Transumanesimo e potenziamento dell'uomo: limiti e punti di forza di un movimento controverso
Get PDFAntonio Allegra’s “Visioni Transumane” discusses some important aspects of Transhumanism and Posthumanism. Through a critical confrontation with the author I try to develop some reflections on 1) the relashionship between evolutionary theory and transhuman narration; 2) the topic of human enhancement; 3) Habermas’ objections to human enhancement; 4) the social objection to human enhancement. I substantly agree with Allegra’s ideas about Transhumanism (in particular, the focus on the religious vocation of this movement). However, I suggest a more cautious approach to Transuhumanism itself. Indeed, I show that the more controversial ideas of this complex movement shouldn’t be assumed as the only interesting elements to be scrutinized. There is also a deep core of Transhumanism I completely agree with dealing with the necessary and inescapable effort of Humankind to enhance herself and to improve human condition for the future generations
