    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     A single-pass antialiased rasterization processor

    Antialiased is one of challenging problems to be solved for the high fidelity image synthesis in 3D graphics. In this paper a rasterization processor which is capable of single-pass full-screen antialiasing is presented. To implement a H/W accelerated single-pass antialiased rasterization processor at the reasonable H/W cost and minimized processing performance degradation. our work is mainly focused on the efficient H/W implementation of a modified version of the A-buffer algorithm. For the efficient handling of partial-pixel fragments of the rasterization phase, a new partial-pixel-merging scheme and a simple and efficient new dynamic memory management scheme are proposed. For the final blending of partial-pixels without loss of generality, a parallel subpixel blender is introduced. To study the feasibility of the proposed rasterization processor as a practical rasterization processor, a prototype processor has been designed using a 0.35 mum EML technology. It operates 100 Mhz @3.3 V and has the rendering performance from 25M to 80M pixel-fragments/sec depending on the scene complexity

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    학위논문(석사) - 한국과학기술원 : 물리학과, 2008.2, [ ii, 38 p. ]FRET을 이용하여 형광 세기의 변화를 관찰하는 것에 의하여 DNA의 동적 물리성질을 관찰할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 형광의 세기와 스펙트럼을 측정한 결과를 가지고 autocorrelation 방법을 적용하여 분석함으로써 DNA의 dynamics에 대해 탐구해보았다. 시간 해상도가 우리가 보고자하는 물리현상에 비해 다르고 DNA의 농도가 너무 높은 이유로 autocorrelation 방법을 이용하여 DNA 사이의 상호작용을 관찰할 수 없었다. 이 결과는 autocorrelation 방법을 이용하여 분석할 때 샘플의 농도와 적절한 시간해상도의 선택이 중요함을 말해준다. 또한 실험에서 구한 그래프를 fitting하는 것에 의해 DNA가 화학적인 반응을 하는 시스템을 지배하는 두 개의 중요한 시간 상수가 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이번 연구에서 이 두 개의 시간 상수를 구할 수는 없었지만, 이것들은 DNA의 모양과 여러 개의 염기로 이루어져 있다는 사실과 관련이 있다. 실험에서 이 상수 값들은 측정할 때마다 상당히 다른 값을 가졌는데, 이것은 DNA끼리의 결합이 온도에 매우 민감한 영향을 받기 때문으로 좀 더 정확한 값을 구하기 위해서는 정밀한 실험을 할 필요가 있다.한국과학기술원 : 물리학과

    학위논문(박사) - 한국과학기술원 : 물리학과, 2011.2, [ ii, 55 p. ]Triple helix DNA는 유전자 치료와 분자 생물학의 연구에 있어서 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러나 DNA 골격의 음전하때문에 Triple helix DNA의 형성은 어렵다. 다양한 양이온들은 Triple helix DNA의 형성을 향상시키거나 억제시킨다. 이 연구에서는 FRET을 이용하여 Na+Na^+ 이온과 Mg2+Mg^{2+} 이온의 효과를 관찰하였다. 실험의 결과는 Mg2+Mg^{2+} 이온은 Triple helix DNA의 형성을 도와주었고, Na+Na^+ 는 그렇지 않다는 것을 보여준다. Mg2+Mg^{2+} 이온의 농도를 고정시켰을 때는 Na+Na^+ 이온의 농도가 높아질수록 FRET 효율이 떨어지는 모습을 보인다. Mg2+Mg^{2+} 이온의 전기적인 차폐 효과는 전기적인 척력을 감소시킴으로써 올리고뉴클레오타이드끼리 가까워지는 것을 용이하게 해준다. Na+Na^+ 이온은 구아닌이 풍부한 올리고뉴클레오타이드에 작용하여 DNA가 dimer나 tetramer와 같은 복합 구조체를 형성하도록 변형시킨다. 이러한 이유로 Na+Na^+ 이온은 Triple helix DNA가 형성되는 것을 방해한다. 우리는 이온을 넣는 순서를 변화시키는 실험도 수행하였다. 이온을 넣는 순서의 변화는 Triple helix DNA의 형성에 영향을 주지 않았다. 이를 통해 Triple helix DNA의 활성화 에너지는 낮다는 것을 알 수 있었다.한국과학기술원 : 물리학과
