No full textIl volume nasce in seno alla ricerca svolta dalla Fondazione Benetton per l’edizione 2017 per Premio internazionale Carlo Scarpa, con il coordinamento di Luigi Latini e Patrizia Boschiero. Con 19 saggi inediti, il lavoro si concentra sul tema del "Jardín de Cactus" nell’isola vulcanica di Lanzarote, parte di un singolare sistema di cave e crateri coltivati che rappresenta ancora oggi un fertile equilibrio tra natura e cultura presente in quest’isola. La cava di Guatiza, nella quale il giardino nasce, è un’importante opera dell’arista César Manrique (1919-1992) che qui interpreta le tecniche di una singolare tradizionale agricola, distendendo stati di lava vulcanica, elevando muri frangivento e coltivando, con una originale sensibilità estetica. In questo senso il giardino rappresenta un documento unico per capire le relazioni tra l’attitudine “moderna” verso il paesaggio e il dibattito culturale contemporaneo

No full textThe article is connected to a research developed by the author and the Benetton Foundation on a group of villages and their landscapes situated near Srebrenica, on the edge between Serbia and Bosnia, completely destroyed by the Bosnian War between 1992 and 1995. After twenties year, a group of young habitants have returned to that villages with the intention of cultivate the land and overcome old barriers of ethnicity and religious prejudices. No full textThe book is connected to a research developed at the Benetton Foundation for the 2017 edition of the International Carlo Scarpa Prize, coordinated by Luigi Latini and Patrizia Boschiero. With a number of 19 essays, the work is focused on the the Jardín de Cactus on the volcanic island of Lanzarote, part of a unique system of cultivated quarries and craters embodying the fertile equilibrium between nature and culture on the island. The Guatiza quarry, where the garden take place, is an important projects realized by the artist César Manrique (1919-1992) using the traditional farming techniques of the island: terracing, spreading layers of picón or volcanic ash on the soil, raising stone windbreaks and cultivating plants. The garden represents a unique document for investigating the relation between the “modern” attitude to landscape and the contemporary debate
