Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

This research aims to analyze the effect of a five-stage strategy elaborated within the Erasmus+ project FOrSE (Framework for Organizing Studies Entrepreneurially) realized by three EU universities. The strategy was integrated into a study course of Pedagogy to enhance entrepreneurial mindsets and behaviors of first-year international Master students who did not have any opportunity for face-to-face studies because of the quarantine. The key focus of the strategy is to promote students’ ability to analyze the problems facing them during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify and/or realize new opportunities in the face of the worries and uncertainty. The qualitative content analysis of the Master students’ reflections and the analysis of the challenges faced, and new opportunities identified and/or realized showed that they tried to adjust their inner world to the events which take place in the outer world for gaining self- confidence and achieving harmony

A literature review was undertaken to find out the current trends in the theory and practice of coaching in the context of innovation and organizational change. The findings of the literature review are compared with the results of two surveys. The aim of the first survey is to explore the experts’ opinion about the manifestation of coaching in organization. The aim of the second survey is to find out the importance of conditions to promote coaching in organisational context. The results of literature review and surveys demonstrate that coaching can accelerate the leadership development, strategic thinking and collaboration within and across teams. These processes are crucial for organization’s innovation capabilities

Financial literacy: building a conceptual framework

Financial literacy is now globally acknowledged as an important element of economic and financial stability and development. Many researchers and organizations focus their efforts on the issues related to its evaluation and improvement. However, in the initial stage of any research an analysed concept should be clearly defined an explained. A plenty of competing definitions is offered by different authors. Thus, the main goal of the current research was to provide a deep understanding of the concept of financial literacy, specifying its key elements. To achieve the established goal, an analysis of the textual information was performed, using software AQUAD 6.0 and Hamlet II. Information data base included 52 definitions of the term ‘’financial literacy’’ and the related terms proposed by individual researchers and organizations, such as OECD, EIOPA, ACIS and others. Completing the procedure of open-coding, the main directions of the research are detected: (1) analysis of key domains of financial literacy, which are knowledge, ability, attitude, and behaviour; (2) analysis of key aspects of financial literacy, e.g. numeracy, debt literacy etc. Analysis of frequencies within the framework of content analysis assisted authors to detect main elements of financial literacy and to define the most important competencies for financially literate behaviour. The results of content analysis provided by AQUAD and analysis of joint frequencies provided by Hamlet were used to perform the further analysis of the information, using hierarchical clustering technique. Diversified exploration of the concept of financial literacy allows constructing a platform to expand the horizon of its understanding. The received results will be used by the authors to develop a framework for assessing financial literacy level in Latvia

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Náklady vlastního kapitálu, jež jsou ovlivňovány řadou interních a externích činitelů, významným faktorem ovlivňujícím rozhodovací procesy v podnikové sféře.

The paper explores the influence of national culture on the interaction between a firm’s leverage and investment, measured as Capital Expenditure, across companies in European Information Sector. Using Hofstede’s cultural indexes and based on analysis of scientific papers, investigating the influence of national culture on the investment and leverage, and effect of capital structure on investment, it was hypotheses that uncertainty avoidance and power distance have a positive moderating effect on leverage-investment relations, while individualism and masculinity affect negatively. The financial data of stock-listed companies from the information sector across European countries for the last 10 years was extracted from Amadeus database. Criteria for the company inclusion were financial data availability for the period 2008-2017 for companies across European Information Sector, and availability of a minimum of 3 companies per one country. The quantitative method was chosen for conducting the research, including univariate and regression analyses. The obtained results demonstrate that national culture affects the relationship between the company’s level of leverage and investment
