The research aims to analyze the role of universities to promote sustainable strategies inside and outside their academic communities. In particular, the focus is on projects promoted by the Academia that respond to the big problem regarding waste. After an analysis of the literature on the evolution of the Helix Model and the Third Mission of University, the research focuses on the analysis of the causes of the open call “Mission Sustainability” promoted by the “Tor Vergata” University of Rome, aiming to promote sustainable action in the territory, in a specific project involving the installation of incentivizing compactors in the Campus for PET collection. The research methodology applied to the case study, mainly qualitative, is based on the document analysis of university report and strategy planning, the call and the specific project promoted by professors and researchers titled “GREENtosi for UniRecycling purpose between Third Mission and Sustainability. A virtuous experimental partnership with a view to the quintuple helix in the socio-ecological transition context”. This case is relevant for both academic and practical aspects because it is a research application in a specific context leading to the following main results: sensitization and awareness of students, employees and the whole academic community on the problem of waste from PET plastic; involvement of stakeholders in public engagement activities for collecting waste; studying the practical application of possible benefits from the installation of compactors and increasing the sense of belonging towards the University, green and common space care

A new strategy to revamp Italian economy must enhance potentialities of internal market and of needs of citizens. This article suggests that taking care of the historical-monumental goods could be good in order to boost the economy towards sustainable growth, provided that everything takes place in close partnership with the stakeholders also through public-private partnership (PPP). This study examines the case study of the Agenzia del Demanio and the potential and policies it has undertaken. The conclusion to be pursued is that the enhancement and redevelopment of the territory must be based on economic integration and tourism, which is one of the main sectors driving economic development of different territories. It has to be implemented in a sustainable manner, combining the needs for use of the attractors and the safeguard of the heritage as a precious entity to be preserved, transmitted and handed down to future generations

Universities, for their role in training future generations of decision-makers and professionals, play a key role in ensuring access to inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. This research aims to analyze the state of the art of the sustainability reporting initiative and communication in universities. In particular, the research proposed a comparative case study analysis between two young European universities (the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" - Italy and the University of Lisbon NOVA) analyzing the best practice actions and the governance model adopted to promote sustainability. The two Universities have moved differently to achieve the goal of Agenda 2030: University of Rome “Tor Vergata” uses a top-down model, while the University NOVA of Lisbon uses a bottom-up approach

Sustainable development, stakekolders’ partnership, state-owned assets in a system thinking model

Enhancing State-owned assets could be an excellent strategy for the policymakers to converge on the goals promoted by the 2030 Agenda. State-owned assets play a critical role in a nation's socioeconomic progress. To achieve sustainable development, governments must adopt a multifaceted approach. This involves optimizing asset management by reducing waste, improving efficiency, and enhancing accountability. Furthermore, investment in eco-friendly technologies and sustainable practices can reduce environmental impact. Leveraging state assets to foster economic growth, create employment opportunities, and address social needs aligns with sustainability principles, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and environmentally responsible future for current and future generations. This approach considers the interconnectedness of economic, social, and environmental factors, enabling holistic strategies that optimize resource allocation, promote innovation, and ensure long-term viability, thereby advancing both economic growth and environmental stewardship. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate (with a System Thinking Model) that the public policy maker (State, Region, Municipality, etc.-owned asset) can incentivize the local economy towards sustainable development (SDGs-Agenda 2030) using systemic managerial logic (System Thinking and System Dynamics). The model proposed systematically represents the virtuous circle created by the Valorisation policy of State-owned assets. It is based on the project of Valorisation of Frascati-owned assets, promoted by a Public-Public Partnership (Municipality of Frascati, University of Rome "Tor Vergata" - Master II Level-Reporting Innovation Sustainability- Maris, State Property Agency). This model proposes a simple and intuitive multidimensional tool for the policy maker (Government, Municipality, Region, etc.). The because highlights the virtuous circles which, based on the 5P-NSDSS, lead to the creation of local (National) sustainable development, co-operating towards the SDGs (Agenda 2030)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

MANAGING DIVERSITY IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AT THE TIME OF COVID-19

The European educational system has been deeply affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Specifically, Italian schools of all levels had to resort to alternative and innovative methods of training and learning to ensure the continuity of school activities from home. Distance Learning (DL) has, therefore, allowed students to continue to follow the lessons but, at the same time, has highlighted several difficulties, especially in the management of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). For this reason, through the above-mentioned research work, a survey was conducted at the Italian level, among parents and teachers, to investigate the impact of Distance Learning on the education of students with Special Educational Needs in Italian schools of all levels during the Covid-19 Pandemic, to answer the following Research Question (RQ1): does DL create a learning inequality for students with Special Educational Needs? The main results obtained illustrate a gap between teaching and learning modes between students with SEN and the rest of the class, especially with regard to active participation in lessons, autonomy in completing assignments, motivation and interest, and general academic performance. This study, therefore, aims to provide food for thought and solutions on the importance of managing diversity within the school environment, especially with regard to social inclusion, a fundamental element to improve outcomes for people with disabilities but that unfortunately the COVID-19 crisis and consequently the DL is taking away from them
