An integrated design methodology for components produced by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process

    No full text
Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) is an additive manufacturing (AM) process that allows to build full dense metal complex part. However, despite the obvious benefits of L-PBF process, it is affected by specific technological drawbacks and it suffers from issues regarding design support tools. In order to fully exploit the advantages of L-PBF, it is necessary to know the technological constraints, such as material availability and the need to minimise the support structures. In this paper, an integrated design procedure that involves topology optimisation, design for laser powder bed fusion rules and finishing requirements is presented in order to define practical guidelines for successful AM of metal parts. The procedure is tested using a case study to prove the effectiveness of the proposed approac

The Psalms and Dante’s poenitential autobiography · The essay focuses on the direct quotes from the Psalms in Dante’s Commedia, paying specific attention to those referred to Dante-the-character. The aim is to oπer a systematic discussion of the importance of references to this Biblical book in helping shape the prophetic identity of the author of the poem. To do so, the presence of these quotes is analysed both with reference to the 13th c. exegetical tradition (with an emphasis on Dominican commentaries) and in light of the presence/ absence of allusions to the Psalms in other Vernacular works by Dante (Vita nova and Convivio)

Deep drilling of aluminium die-cast parts: surface roughness, dimensional tolerance and tool-chip interaction

    No full text
Many automotive applications require deep drilling on pressure die-cast parts in Aluminium alloys. Aim of the research was to understand if common cutting practices, usually determined on raw materials, can be successful on semi-manufactured parts as well, having an inhomogeneous microstructure. A specific investigation was carried out on deep drilling of a EN_AB-46000 cylinder block, varying technological parameters (cutting speed, feed, tool, lubrication). Dimensional tolerance and surface roughness were measured and statistically analyzed. The quantitative analysis of the process macroscopic performances was combined with an investigation of microstructural aspects of the material, their effects on chip formation and tool-chip interaction

I Salmi di David de Pellegrino degli Erri (Venise, 1573)

International audienceThis paper studies the historical context in which I Salmi di David by Pellegrino degli Erri (Venice, 1573) were written and published. Aside from the fact that it is mentioned in catalogues and studies dedicated to Italian biblical edition, this work has drawn very little critical attention, partly because of its wrong attribution to the Benedictine abbot of the same name. This paper demonstrates that it was actually written by a man of letters who had been a member of the heterodox Modenese Academy, before being encouraged in his literary task by Bishop Egidio Foscarari and Count Fulvio Rangoni. The work offers an Italian and Latin translation of the Psalms, based on the Hebraic source and accompanied by a commentary. Its contents reflect a religious position which is both opened to Protestant ideas and concerned with preserving the peace and unity of the Church. These traits are emphasised in the apparatus inserted by the editor, Giordano Ziletti, who is careful to present the work as an aid to liturgical and devotional practices approved by the Church. Nonetheless, it was banned in 1593, not without having circulated, first as a manuscript in Italy and even in Spain and then as a Venetian edition of which a significant number of copies has survived. I Salmi di David by Pellegrino degli Erri are of great interest to religious, editorial, and literary historiography: they are indeed relevant for the study of Modenese and Italian religious history, the Italian editorial production of biblical texts at a time when it was affected by ecclesiastical censorship, and the linguistic and literary issues related to biblical translation and religious writing.

Residual stress analysis of thin AlSi10Mg parts produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

    No full text
Among the various Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies available for metal part production, powder bed processes are the most promising for industrial mass production. However, one obstacle to the widespread adoption of AM technologies is the effect of the residual stress state on the integrity and lifetime of parts. The residual stress state is influenced to a great extent by the geometry and orientation of the part, and such conditions as the distance of the part regions from the building platform or geometrical constraints may change the stress values and distribution. This work describes an experimental activity that has made it possible to draw the trend of the residual stress beneath the surfaces of thin samples produced in AISi10Mg alloy through a Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) process, in order to evaluate how stresses are altered by different geometrical constraints

Iron(II) catalyzed dehydrative etherification of alcohols: a convenient route to ferrocenylmethanol-ethers

The iron complex [Fp][OTf] (Fp+L[Fe(CO)2(Cp)]+, OTf2LSO3CF32) was found to act as efficient catalyst for the dehydrative etherification of ferrocenylmethanol [HOCH2–Fc] with a variety of alcohols (ROH), providing a valuable route for the formation of ferrocenylmethanol-ethers [ROCH2–Fc]. The complex [Fp][OTf] also catalyzes etherification of propargyl alcohols with other alcohols. The advantages of the method are associated with the use of a non toxic and easily available transition metal as catalyst, and the dehydrative synthetic approach, which produces water as the only by-product
