Macron and the economy: A labour-market perspective
In this chapter, the author discusses economic performance under President Macron from a labour-market perspective, aimed at those without specialist knowledge of economics. While the French economy has performed close to the average of its OECD peer group based on core indicators such as GDP growth rates and real household incomes, the country has been a notable relative underperformer when it comes to unemployment and labour participation rates, with negative impacts on overall welfare. This makes the extent of progress towards a healthier labour market a key criterion for assessing the Macron presidency in the economic sphere - as implicitly acknowledged by Macron's own consistent prioritisation of economic reform policy efforts related to employment. The assessment in this chapter relates Macron's reforms to an analysis of the structural causes of the French labour-market problem and finds substantial progress - particularly as regards bringing about more efficient industrial relations and implementing active labour-market policies designed to reduce skills mismatches and promote full employment. At the same time, several important challenges, notably relating to competitiveness, have been side-stepped. This analysis also casts light on broader obstacles to structural reform embedded in the French model of top-down technocratic action and its vulnerability to the leader's character

French-Egyptian Relations During the Presidential Board of Emmanuel Macron
The author of the article examines the goals, course and results of the official visit of the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron to the Arab Republic of Egypt in January 2019. The first visit of the head of the Fifth Republic to Egypt was considered under Franco-Egyptian relations in general context during the presidency of E. Macron. Relations between the two countries on the eve of the official visit are characterized as friendly and having the potential of favorable development in all spheres. However, the negotiations E. Macron with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi demonstrated that there are unresolved and quite conflicting contradictions in relations between France and Egypt. The French side points out to partners the obvious violations of human rights and freedoms in Egypt and Egyptian diplomats, in their turn, reproach French colleagues for incomplete failure to comply with the contract for the supply of Rafale attack aircraft. The author concludes that the relations of the Fifth Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt have a favorable development prospect, despite the outlined disagreements over the settlement of the Libyan crisis and a number of other issues of international relations
Bioengineering case study to evaluate complications of adverse anatomy of aortic root in transcatheter aortic valve replacement: Combining biomechanical modelling with CT imaging
Gated computed tomography (CT) might not adequately predict occurrence of post‐implantation transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) complications in hostile aortic root as it would require a more complex integration of morphological, functional and hemodynamical parameters. We used a computational framework based on finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate patient‐specific implantation. Application of biomechanical modelling using FEA to gated‐CT was able to demonstrate the relation of the device with voluminous calcification, its consequent misalignment and a significant stent deformation. Use of FEA and other advanced computed predictive modelling techniques as an adjunct to CT scan could improve our understanding of TAVR, potentially predict complications and fate of the devices after implantation and inform patient‐specific treatment
Corevalve vs. Sapien 3 transcatheter aortic valve replacement: A finite element analysis study
Aim: to investigate the factors implied in the development of postoperative complications in both self-expandable and balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valves by means of finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and methods: FEA was integrated into CT scans to investigate two cases of postoperative device failure for valve thrombosis after the successful implantation of a CoreValve and a Sapien 3 valve. Data were then compared with two patients who had undergone uncomplicated transcatheter heart valve replacement (TAVR) with the same types of valves. Results: Computational biomechanical modeling showed calcifications persisting after device expansion, not visible on the CT scan. These calcifications determined geometrical distortion and elliptical deformation of the valve predisposing to hemodynamic disturbances and potential thrombosis. Increased regional stress was also identified in correspondence to the areas of distortion with the associated paravalvular leak. Conclusion: the use of FEA as an adjunct to preoperative imaging might assist patient selection and procedure planning as well as help in the detection and prevention of TAVR complications
A finite element analysis study from 3D CT to predict transcatheter heart valve thrombosis
Background: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement has proved its safety and effectiveness in intermediate- to high-risk and inoperable patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, despite current guideline recommendations, the use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to treat severe aortic valve stenosis caused by degenerative leaflet thickening and calcification has not been widely adopted in low-risk patients. This reluctance among both cardiac surgeons and cardiologists could be due to concerns regarding clinical and subclinical valve thrombosis. Stent performance alongside increased aortic root and leaflet stresses in surgical bioprostheses has been correlated with complications such as thrombosis, migration and structural valve degeneration. Materials and Methods: Self-expandable catheter-based aortic valve replacement (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA), which was received by patients who developed transcatheter heart valve thrombosis, was investigated using high-resolution biomodelling from computed tomography scanning. Calcific blocks were extracted from a 250 CT multi-slice image for precise three-dimensional geometry image reconstruction of the root and leaflets. Results: Distortion of the stent was observed with incomplete cranial and caudal expansion of the device. The incomplete deployment of the stent was evident in the presence of uncrushed refractory bulky calcifications. This resulted in incomplete alignment of the device within the aortic root and potential dislodgment. Conclusion: A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) investigation can anticipate the presence of calcified refractory blocks, the deformation of the prosthetic stent and the development of paravalvular orifice, and it may prevent subclinical and clinical TAVR thrombosis. Here we clearly demonstrate that using exact geometry from high-resolution CT scans in association with FEA allows detection of persistent bulky calcifications that may contribute to thrombus formation after TAVR procedure
An addendum to the dīwān of Abū Manscombining dot belowūr al-Tcombining macron belowa'ālibī
There have been several attempts in modern scholarship to reconstruct the lost dīwān of Abū Mansūr al-Tcombining macron belowālibī (350-429-961-1038 or 9). This article is an addendum to this dīwān that collects verses that were overlooked by previous scholarship or selected from recently published anthologies contemporary to al-Tcombining macron belowālibī. It also sheds light on al-Tcombining macron belowālibī's minor literary character, i.e. being a poet, and offers some observations on his poetry in general. © 2009 Brill.al-Ahmad H.I., 2007, AB AD AL NASS AL NAQ; al-Bustani Butrus, 1882, DA IRAT MA ARIF AL B, VVI, P316; al-Gadir, 1976, AL TA ALIBI NAQIDAN, P13; al-Gadir, AL TA ALIBI, P177; al-Gadir, AL TA ALIBI, P66; al-Gadir, DIWAN AL TA ALIBI, P11; al-Gadir M.A., 1979, MAGALLAT AL MAWRID, V8; al-Hulw 'A., 1977, MAGALLAT AL MAWRID, V6; al-Kala'i, 1985, IHKAM SAN AT AL KALA, P224; al-Kutubi, MS ZAHIRIYYA 45, VXIII, p179b; al-Safadi, 2000, AL WAFI BI L WAFAYAT, VXXI, P194; al-Samarrai Q., 1975, BIBLIOTHECA ORIENTAL, VXXXII, P175; al-Ta'alibi, 1961, AL TAMTIL WA L MUHAD, P17; al-Ta'alibi, 1989, AHSAN MA SAMI TU, P126; al-Ta'alibi, 1965, TIMAR AL QULUB FI L, P6; al-Ta'alibi, 1967, AL MUTASABIH, P24; Al-Ta'alibi, 1988, DIWAN AL TA ALIBI; al-Ta'alibi, 1984, HASS AL HASS, P230; al-Zirikli, 1992, AL A LAM, VIV, P311; Bosworth C.E., 1968, THE BOOK OF CURIOUS, P1; Brockelmann, GAL, VI, P284; Brockelmann C., GAL, VI, P284; Margoliouth D.S., EF, VI, p952b; Mubarak Zaki, 1957, AL NATR AL FANNI FI, V2, P179; Nagi Hilal, 1986, MAGALLAT AL MAWRID, V15, P199; Orfali Bilal, 2009, THESIS; Orfali Bilal, 2009, THE WEAVING OF WORDS, P191; Rowson E., 1984, NOTES ON TWO POETIC, P1984; Rowson E., EF, p426a; Rowson E., EF, VX, p426a; Suhba Qadi, MS AL ZAHIRIYYA 438, VII, P38711
