Confini violati: al di là delle sembianze e del preconcetto. Tracce ed esempi scelti e raccolti di paese in paese.
The contribution is an essay wondering which must be the method and the quality of the historiographical approach to the landscape subjects.
Going on with the same thin irony seized in the title “ Il paesaggio riconosciuto “ by Santino Langè
, representing some aspects, the author warns against the abstraction risks due to the appearances and prejudices when we speak about the landscape.
The landscape is real, not an invention, an idea of ours, often it isn't what it appears.
For this reason people try to profane the boundaries of the appearance and prejudice, which seem impassable today, from time to time taking clear instances gathered from land to land.
From the word land used in the current language in a wholly improper way, to the recall that landscape derives from land, to the horizontal plane as the first form of real concreteness, fit to the person.
The author ends by the invention of the antilandscape, created by the chaos and by all the inventions
due to the appearance and prejudice
Rank-based Multi-Scale Entropy Analysis of Heart Rate Variability
The method of MultiScale Entropy (MSE) is an invaluable tool to quantify and compare the complexity of physiological time series at different time scales. Although MSE traditionally employs sample entropy to measure the unpredictability of each coarse-grained series, the same framework can be applied to other metrics. Here we investigate the use of a rank-based entropy measure within the MSE framework. Like in the traditional method, the series are studied in an embedding space of dimension m. The novel entropy assesses the unpredictability of the series quantifying the "amount of shuffling" that the ranks of the mutual distances between pairs of m-long vectors undergo when considering the next observation. The algorithm was tested on recordings from the Fantasia database in a time-varying fashion using non-overlapping 300-samples windows. The method was able to find statistically significant differences between young and healthy elderly subjects at 7 scales/time-windows after accounting for multiple comparisons using the Holm-Bonferroni correction. These promising results suggest the possibility of using this measure to perform a time-varying assessment of complexity with increased accuracy and temporal resolution
Improving the execution of Citi Green team initiatives
Strategy Execution is a very challenging responsibility as employees will tend to focus on their individual responsibilities rather than a newly formed strategic business decision that will disturb their regular work day. So unless there are people in the organization that ensures that strategies are executed, chances are some strategies formulated by our leaders may end up not being implemented. Vision without Execution is just Hallucination, this is the title of the presentation of the Strategy Execution Framework lecture of Tom Willingham, which has been used in this action research. It has been emphasized in this paper that Citis Global Sustainability Strategy is by engaging communities and employees, to be led by local Citi Green Teams. The issue is Citi Green Team Philippines was not able to execute any initiatives since its conception last April 2014. The objective and goal of this action research is (1) to be able to increase employee awareness for Citi Green Team, (2) to encourage a culture of social responsibility, corporate sustainability, and volunteerism, and, to (3) be able to have a sustainable group of Citi Green Team Leaders that promotes sustainable practices. This paper emphasizes how relevant the success of Citi Green Team is to our senior leaders as the success of this group is associated to Citis Global Sustainability Strategy. This paper also talks about the situation of author as an employee and insider action researcher, and how he managed role duality and organizational politics. It has also been explained how Coghlan and Brannick Action Research Cycle, Argyris Ladder of Inference, Scheins ORJI, Kotters 8-Step Change Model, and Willinghams Strategy Execution Model was incorporated in this paper. This paper also contains the stories of how the researcher has collaboratively worked with different people in and outside the organization, and notes on the expected and unexpected outcomes after the major and minor interventions. In the latter part of this paper, the author shared his self-reflection in all his experiences for this paper. Lastly, the author has shared recommendations on the theoretical framework and potential action research cycle on how this paper can further be improved
An Instantaneous Estimation of Transfer Entropy using Point-Process Models with Application to Cardio-Respiratory Dynamics
Nonlinear physiological systems are characterized by complex interactions among multiple sub-system variables, whose dynamics show peculiar nonlinear coupling properties. To this extent, transfer entropy [1] is a mathematical construct devised to measure the nonlinear directional amount of information transfer from one physiological variable to the other. Transfer entropy measures derived from heart rate variability (HRV) analysis have been proven to be effective indicators of baroreflex functions and of aging-related changes, involving also respiratory dynamics, at different frequency bands
Paesaggi dell'Appenino Ligure Orientale
The work is placed among the conclusive considerations as to the aims attained in the research suggested by the University of Genua ( co-ordinator Annalisa Calcagno Maniglio ) and financed by the University and the Scientific and Technological Research Ministry.
It is a voyage at the discovery of the least known , but not the least interesting landscape aspects of the Valle Sturla, an area situated almost entirely in the administrative boundaries of the Commune of Borzonasca, in the province of Genua.
The text is composed of two parts.
In the first part some peculiar characteristics of the valley landscape, i.e. The monumental trees in the wide chestnut woods, or monumental cypresses qualifying the surroundings near important religious buildings are mentioned.
In the second part the author has spoken about the traditional villages formed by small narrow groups arranged in constellations.
The aim of “The European Convention of the Landscape” subscribed in Florence in October 2000 has been achieved and a strategic centrality of the unknown aspects of the landscape has been attained

Real-time processing of tfLIFE neural signals on embedded DSP platforms: A case study
Spike sorting is a typical neural processing technique aimed at identifying the firing activity of individual neurons. It plays a different role in the processing of the signals coming either from a single electrode or an electrode array. In presence of highly noisy recordings, a preliminary denoising stage is required in order to improve the SNR. Despite the significant number of studies in the field, only a few of them deal with peripheral nervous system (PNS) recordings and often the possibility of a real-time implementation is only hinted without any real implementation study. In this paper, a real-time PNS signal processing and classification technique is presented end evaluated on real elec-troneurographic signals taken from the sciatic nerve of rats. A state-of-the-art algorithm, composed of a wavelet denoising preprocessing stage followed by a correlation-based spike sorting and a support vector machine, has been adapted to work on-line in order to improve the processing efficiency while preserving at the most its effectiveness. The algorithm provides some level of adaptiveness with respect to an off-line implementation. On average, the correct classification reach 92.24% with isolated errors that can be easily filtered out. Cycle-accurate profiling results on an off-the-shelf Digital Signal Processor demonstrate the real-time performance. © 2011 IEEE
