Determination of endogenous aliphatic hydrocarbons of virgin olive oils of four autochtonous cultivars from Krk island (Croatia)
The application of microwaves in combinatorial and high-throughput synthesis as new synthetic procedure in drug discovery.
Heterocyclic compounds hold a special place among pharmaceutically important natural and synthetic materials. The remarkable ability of heterocyclic nuclei to serve both as biomimetics and reactive pharmacophores has largely contributed to their unique value as traditional key elements of numerous drugs. In both lead identification and optimization processes there is an acute need for new organic small molecules. Traditional methods of organic synthesis are orders of magnitude too slow to satisfy the demand for these compounds; so, the fields of combinatorial and automated medicinal chemistry have been developed to meet the increasing requirement of new compounds for drug discovery, within these fields, speed is of the essence. The efficiency of microwave flash-heating chemistry in dramatically reducing reaction times (reduced from days and hours to minutes and seconds) has recently been proven in several different fields of organic chemistry. We believe that the time saved by using focused microwaves is potentially important in traditional organic synthesis but could be of even greater importance in high-speed combinatorial and medicinal chemistry.
In this review, it is impossible to cover all significant developments in the area of microwave-assisted organic synthesis (MAOS). Rather, outlines the basic principles behind the technology and summarizes the areas in which microwave technology has made an impact, to date. Specific attention is given to application of microwave technology in Combinatorial Organic Synthesis of several representative biologically interesting nuclei obtained both in liquid systems and in the solid state
Highly Regioselective Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Enantiopure C3-Symmetric Trialkanolamines
Enantiopure, C3-symmetric trialkanolamines can be efficiently and rapidly obtained on a gram scale via one pot or step-wise microwave-assisted epoxide ring opening with ammonia in high yields (up to 89%) and regioselectivity up to 100%

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
