About the Concept of Gnosticism in Fiction Studies
I In his article About the Concept of \u27Gnosticism\u27 in Fiction Studies Fryderyk Kwiatkowski notices that in the twentieth-century humanities the concept of Gnosticism has become a popular term for labelling tendencies in modernity and postmodernity. Kwiatkowski argues that the majority of scholars in fiction studies base their research on outdated methodologies. In consequence, Kwiatkowski presents an overview of contemporary approaches in Gnostic studies and discusses how they can be adapted in studies of literature, film, video games, comic books, etc. By outlining advantages and disadvantages of methodological approaches, Kwiatkowski posits that in studies of fiction with Gnostic components it is advantageous to adhere to precise methods, terminology, and explanation including their limitations and the purposes of application

What are Gnostic dystopias? Reflections on the Gnostic Worldview in Dystopian Studies
The inquiry delivered in Fryderyk Kwiatkowski’s chapter of possible affinities between ancient gnosticism and utopian/dystopian texts has not been performed in comparative studies. The aim of the paper is therefore to demonstrate that the gnostic thought is replete with notions that may have served as the pre-modern source of the constructive characteristics present in utopias and dystopias. Kwiatkowski examines the Hollywood film “Dark City” (1998) as the primary case study for his investigative research. Other sources of his substantive research include American films, for instance “The Matrix” (1998), “The Truman Show” (1998) “Pleasantville” (1998), and “Equilibrium” (2002). Kwiatkowski coins the notion of the “gnostic dystopia” and classifies his research sources as the cinematic exemplifications for the term. Kwiatkowski shows how the concept can be referred to classic dystopias in which structural and narrative traits are consistent with the gnostic thought

Media reality in “Truman Show” (1998) by Peter Weir in the perspective of gnostic thought
In the author’s opinion the story depicted in "The Truman Show" (1998) by Peter Weir comprises
a reinterpretation of a Gnostic myth about the liberation of a „divine spark” from the material world.
In spite of the fact that the director did not know about Gnosticism before he started to make the film,
the author of the article presents that many motifs in his work can be viewed through the ideas expressed
in various Gnostic systems. The Gnostic notions were reinterpreted in "The Truman Show" on a fundamental
level of the world being presented in as well as in the narrative structure of the movie.Publikacja dofinansowana przez Rektora Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego oraz Dziekana Wydziału Filologicznego Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego
Fryderyk Chopin's piano sonatas
The author in his work focuses on the piano sonatas of Polish music composer Fryderyk Chopin. Work contains a characteristic of composer's personality, his biography and mainly a chapter about Chopin's piano sonatas, which is divided to some sub chapters. The author mostly focuses on the interpretative problems of these compositions, where he derives benefit from his own experience. Relatively large is also the sub chapter "Form analysis". The main author's objective is to help beginning interpreters of Chopin's sonatas in study of these compositions. But this work might be interesting for all musicians who are interested in Chopin's piano sonatas
The attitude of the Catholic Church towards freemasonry in the eighteenth century
In the eighteenth century, after the modern Freemasonry had been established, almost all European countries, including Ecclesiastical State, decisively condemned Freemasonry, evaluating it as an illegal organisation. The author of the article shows that behind the hostile attitude of the Catholic Church towards Freemasonry in the eighteenth century stood, above all, political considerations. To this end he examines two most important papal bulls which were published in that time - In Eminenti Apostolatus Specula (1738) by Clement XII and Providas Romanorum by Benedict XIV (1752). Afterwards, the author shows that their content did not stand out against a background of the sharp criticism directed against masons by the authorities in Europe of that time. He eventually argues that the arguments of doctrinal provenance, expressed by the Church, were rather subordinate to the achievement of political aims
