Strategies to manage perishability in a perishable food supply chain
Perishable food supply chains (PFSCs) have special challenges of short shelf life, strict time windows, product quality degradation issues, and product safety issues. With an estimated one-third of all food wasted in global food supply chains, managing perishability is a key concern for sustainability of PFSCs. The present chapter identifies key operational strategies to manage the PFSC. A mixed-methods approach was used based on systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis. This chapter further considers the case study of a dairy food supply chain (DFSC) in India. Dairy industry serves as the ideal case of an industry that strategically uses supply chain drivers to manage perishability, resulting in a high-performance supply chain. The analysis showed that first-mile technology application, effective cold chain management, stakeholder management and strict temperature control are some of the key aspects of managing perishability in PFSC. While cold chain serves as the backbone of the dairy supply chain, integration of farmers and supply chain responsiveness are other important aspects of managing PFSC. Managing perishability is a key factor for achieving global food safety, security and sustainable development goals. Performance optimization of combined cycle power plant considering various operating parameters / Sachin Kumar
Combined cycle power plants are popular in thermal engineering field for their higher efficiency as compared to normal cycles such as Rankine and Brayton Cycle. But main disadvantages of the cycle are waste heat rejection and low work output. To overcome these difficulties a heat recovery system is used in present work to recover waste heat of Brayton cycle as a steam generator for Rankine cycle in a combined Gas-Vapor cycle. In present work, effect of factors such as “compression ratio”, “inlet air temperature” and “turbine inlet temperature” on cycle efficiency was calculated. It was found that cycle efficiency increases with increase in these factors. It was found that optimum value of compression ratio is 12-18 for maximum output of combined cycle. Whereas inlet air temperature has adverse effect on cycle efficiency so it should be kept lower while increase in turbine inlet temperature increases the cycle’s work output and hence efficiency. Optimum values of turbine inlet temperature were found in range of 1600-1700
Optimizing the Digital Transformation Capability for Enhancing Economic Sustainability of Entrepreneurial Venture: The Moderating Role of Entrepreneurial Orientation
Digital transformation relates to the deployment of
digital technologies to improve business practices, culture, and
customer experience to meet changing market needs. Digital transformation
capabilities could also influence the environmental and
social performance of entrepreneurial ventures. Against this backdrop,
the aim of this study is to investigate how digital transformation
capability could impact environmental and social performance
as well as economic sustainability of entrepreneurial
ventures. This study examines if there are any moderating impacts
of entrepreneurial orientation on the relationships between digital
transformation capability and its consequences. Also, this study
uses different control variables to determine the impact on the economic
sustainability of entrepreneurial ventures.With the support
of a resource-based view and literature review, a research model
has been developed conceptually, which was later validated using
a covariance-based structural equation modeling technique with
consideration of feedback from 312 entrepreneurs from different
sectors and industries. The study found that there is a significant
impact of digital transformation capability on environmental
performance and social performance of entrepreneurial ventures,
which, in turn, influences the economic sustainability of the entrepreneurial
venture. This study also highlighted that there is a
significant moderating impact of entrepreneurial orientation on
different performances of entrepreneurial ventures
Survey and Performance Evaluation of Jamgodrani Hills and Nagda Hill Wind Farm in Madhya Pradesh, India – A Case Study
AbstractToday, most of the electricity generated comes from fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas). These fossil fuels have finite reserves and will run out in the future. The negative effect of these fossil fuels is that they produce pollutant gases when they are burned in the process to generate electricity. Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source. However, renewable energy resources (solar, wind, hydro, biomass, geothermal and ocean) are constantly replaced, hence will not run out, and are usually less polluting. Due to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions more attention is being given to renewable energy. As wind is a renewable energy it is a clean and abundant resource that can produce electricity with virtually no pollutant gas emission. Induction generators are widely used for wind powered electric generation, especially in remote and isolated areas, because they do not need an external power supply to produce the excitation magnetic field. Furthermore, induction generators have more advantages such as cost, reduced maintenance, rugged and simple construction, brushless rotor (squirrel cage) and so on. This paper presents the detailed survey on performance of wind farms situated at Jamgodrani hills and Nagda hill, near Dewas city in Madhya Pradesh, India. Variation of various performance indices such as total yearly generation, total availability of grid, total availability of wind generator, total generating units per wind generator and capacity utilization factor is discussed for wind farm on Jamgodrani hills and Nagda hill respectively.Latter, it introduces a simple and direct formula based on complex impedance matrix method to calculate the minimum excitation capacitance (Cmin) and corresponding maximum frequency (fmax)required for successful voltage build up across the terminal of three phase dual winding induction generator when operating on 225kW rating, used as wind generator in wind farm and variation of minimum excitation capacitance as well as corresponding maximum frequency is also being plotted for various conditions of load and speed
