Role of Mineralogy and Origin of Mechanically Activated (Indian) bauxite in Bayer Process

No full text
This study explored the linkage of mechanical activation (MA) of bauxite ores with their mineralogy and origin. Bauxite ores from Nalco and Indal, widely differing in chemical and phase compositions, were used in the study. Laboratory attrition mill was used for MA and simultaneous milling and leaching(SMILE) experiments. Rapid particle size reduction was characteristic of both Nalco and Indal bauxites. The milling data of both the bauxites fitted very well with kapur's GH equation. Nalco bauxite was found to have faster grinding kinetics and larger red-uction ratio.Irrespective of the chemical and phase compos-ition, zeta potential of the bauxite slurry increased with milling time. However, the increase was more for Nalco bauxite. Increased concentration of reactive singly coor-dinated OH groups on gibbsite surfaces might be respons-ible for this. Gibbsite-boehmite transformation temperat-ure decreased with milling time in both bauxite ores. Beyond 5 minutes of milling, gibbsite in the Nalco bauxite transformed at a lower temperature than that for the corr-esponding Indal bauxite. However, the peak area (which corresponds to the enthalpy of transformation) was less for Indal bauxite indicating increased retention of the absorbed energy. Stuctural changes, progressive decrease of (002)X-ray peak intensity, were also observed in the gibbsite structure with milling. Total alumina as well as the extractable alumina was more in the Indal bauxite. Simultaneous milling leaching (SMILE) was adopted in all the experiments. Effect of SMILE time and rpm were stud-ied in the current study. The studies showed that the recovery of alumina increased with the SMILE time up to about 15-20 minutes whereas the rpm, above 1000, had little effect. The XRD peak of boehmite in the leach residue increased, indicating that the boehmite remained inert during SMILE. This showed that boehmite needed a much stronger activation compared to gibbsite and under-lines the importance of mineralogy

INTERNALIZATION OF RELIGION IN THE DALAIL KHAIRAT FASTING TRADITION AT JEKULO ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL, KUDUS

Dalail Khairat fasting is a type of fasting that is practiced at the Darul Falah Jekulo Islamic Boarding School, Kudus. This fast is carried out for 3 consecutive years. In its implementation, the participants went through several stages of fasting. This paper attempts to discuss how the practice of fasting is carried out, the chain of fasting practice, namely the transmission of knowledge and the foundation of authoritative texts, as well as the subject\u27s reception in the implementation of fasting. This research is a field research. Technical data analysis was carried out qualitatively-descriptively. Using an analysis of historical methods, the author concludes that the genealogical roots of Dalail Khairat\u27s fasting go back to the first mujiz, namelySayyid al-Imam Muhammad bin Sulaiman al-Jazuli. In addition, the Dalail\u27s fasting riyadah has an influence on the mental and psychological state of the practitioner. This shows that the Darul Falah Islamic Boarding School is able to maintain this fasting tradition in a sustainable manner

GASTRIC ANTIULCER AND ULCER HEALING EFFECTS OF PUNICA GRANATUM L. PEEL EXTRACT IN RATS: ROLE OF OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE MUCOSAL FACTORS AND OXIDATIVE STRESS

No full text
Objective: The present work incorporates the study of gastric antiulcer and ulcer healing effects of dried Punica granatum (PG) peel 50% ethanol extract (PGE) in rats. Methods: PGE (100 mg/kg) was administered orally once daily to rats either before or after induction of gastric ulcers (GU) for 7 d. Antiulcer effects of PGE were seen against acute GU, induced by pylorus ligation (PL), cold restraint stress (CRS), aspirin and ethanol while, ulcer healing in acetic acid (AA)-induced chronic GU in rats. Ulcer index (UI), gastric juice volume, acid-pepsin and mucin secretions and gastric mucosal glycoproteins, free radicals (LPO and NO) and antioxidants (SOD and GSH) were estimated. Results: PGE showed a decrease in UI in all GU models (45.6 to 79.7%, P<0.05 to P<0.001) indicating both protective and healing effects. PGE showed little or no effects on volume, acid-pepsin concentration and output but increased mucin secretion (55.1%, P<0.05) and mucosal glycoproteins (35.7%, P<0.05) in PL rats. CRS rats showed an increase in LPO and NO (48.4 to 58.3%, P<0.01) and SOD (21.8%, P<0.01) but decrease in GSH and CAT (33.1 to 44.8%, P<0.01 to P<0.001) compared with unstressed rats. PGE-treated CRS rats showed a decrease in LPO and NO (44.1 to 61.2, P<0.01 to P<0.001) and SOD (13.2%, P<0.01) and increase in GSH and CAT (43.8 to 48.7%, P<0.01 to P<0.001) compared with CRS rats. Conclusion: PGE seemed to have ulcer cytoprotective effects due to enhanced mucosal resistance and reduction in oxidative mucosal damage possibly via high antioxidant activity

Telaah Hermeneutika Kritis terhadap Femisida dalam Perspektif Al-Qur\u27an serta Relevansinya terhadapa Pendidikan Agama Islam

No full text
Gender injustice that seems to be legitimized by normative texts is seriously challenged by problems of interpretation. This research is a library research and qualitative. The author focuses on Femicide in the Perspective of the Qur\u27an: A Critical Hermeneutic Analysis and its Relevance to Islamic Religious Education. Femicide is a criminal act of sadistic murder based on hatred of women committed by men. In the Qur\u27anic perspective, it is substantially described in four verses, namely QS. al-An\u27am 6: 137, QS. At-Takwir 81: 8, QS. An-Nahl 16: 59 and QS. This is a historical fact as documented in several Prophetic traditions. Femicide behavior in pre-Islamic times should be reinterpreted according to the times. The word can be understood to mean sadistic behavior such as being mutilated, abused, burned, crushed, and so on. Femicide is relevant to discuss because PAI plays an important role in shaping human values and attitudes. PAI has the potential to be an effective tool in instilling aspects of humanity, justice, and respect for human rights, including women\u27s rights
