Search strategy
No full textSearch for peer-reviewed literature will be conducted under the guidance of an experienced health Services librarian. The following search terms and their combinations will be used: 'autism', OR 'autism spectrum disorder', AND either of the following terms: 'menarche', 'menstruation, 'menses', 'menopause', dysmenorrhea', 'PMDD', 'premenstrual dysphoric disorder', and ‘premenstrual’. Date of publication limit (1980) will be applied. The final search results will be exported into Excel and duplicates were removed by the first author, with subsequent verification by the second author. Two reviewers will independently screen all titles and abstracts of potential references, excluding those that did not meet the search criteria. The full texts of the papers will then be independently screened by both authors, with discrepancies resolved by consensus between the authors. Next, the two authors will separately check the included papers’ reference lists for identifying additional relevant studies. In the final step, we will glimpse at Google scholar for articles’ citing current publications, maximizing our efforts to collect all relevant studies

Eligibility criteria
No full textPublications will be eligible for inclusion in this review if they are: i) published in English; ii) published after 1980 (the year of publication of DSM-5); iii) original papers (including letters to editor); iv) either quantitative, qualitative studies or mixed-method studies. The exclusion criteria: i) studies not conducted on autistic population (e.g. other forms of neurodivergence, such as autistic traits or ADHD, or specific genetic syndromes); ii) studies were menstruation was not treated as the concept in focus (e.g. pubertal timing without assessment of menstruation status or experience, menarche status mentioned only as a confounding variable; analysis of hormonal variables such as oxytocin rather than menstruation); iii) studies on animal models of ASD; iv) studies of maternal menstrual health rather than menstrual health of autistic individuals; v) position statements/guides or study protocols rather than completed primary research

No full textAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that may predispose to maladaptive experiences to life changes, such as menstruation. Due to gender-based disparities in research, however, there is still paucity of information relating to menstrual experiences among autistic individuals. The purpose of this scoping review is to examine existing evidence about menstrual experiences, including menarche and menopause, among autistic individuals who menstruate, and propose a biopsychosocial model on the complex interplay of individual, healthcare, and societal vulnerabilities that predispose autistic individuals to negative menstrual experiences

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
