Self-archiving practice and the influence of publisher policies in the social sciences
Authors in different disciplines exhibit very different behaviours on the so-called ‘green’ road to open access, i.e. self-archiving. This study looks at the self-archiving behaviour of authors publishing in leading journals in six social science disciplines. It tests the hypothesis that authors are self-archiving according to the norms of their respective disciplines rather than following self-archiving policies of publishers, and that, as a result, they are self-archiving significant numbers of publisher PDF versions. It finds significant levels of
self-archiving, as well as significant self-archiving of
the publisher PDF version, in all the disciplines
investigated. Publishers’ self-archiving policies have
no influence on author self-archiving practice
Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA): a powerful tool for representing implicit knowledge of scholar knowledge workers
In the last decade, knowledge has emerged as one of the most important and valuable organizational assets. Gradually this importance caused to emergence of new discipline entitled ―knowledge management‖. However one of the major challenges of knowledge management is conversion implicit or tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. Thus Making knowledge visible so that it can be better accessed, discussed, valued or generally managed is a long-standing objective in knowledge management. Accordingly in this paper author co- citation analysis (ACA) will be proposed as an efficient technique of knowledge visualization in academia (Scholar knowledge workers)
Analytical study of contents of LANL physics and cross-listed e-print archives, 1994-2002
The frontiers of physics and cross-listed e-print archives posted during the years 1994-2002 at http://www.arxiv.org/archives/physics web service of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are explored from 7770 submissions. E-print archives posted to top most six physics-cross-listed research categories besides physics (5390) are: Condensed matter (754), Quantum physics (279), Astrophysics (222), Chemical physics (129), High energy physics - Phenomenology (118), and High energy physics-Theory (100). Prominent contributors are B.G. Sidharth (India), V.V. Flambaum (Australia), Antonina N. Fedorova (Russia), and Michael G. Zeitlin (Russia). Most preferred journals for rechannelising e-print archives are Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, Physical Review E, Nuclear Instruments and Methods A, and Journal of Chemical Physics
Anhedonia in the shadow of chronic social defeat stress, or When the experimental context matters
One of the core symptoms of major depression in human is anhedonia. For that reason, one of the main requirements towards experimental depression models is that they be able to demonstrate anhedonia in animals, that have been exposed to stressful events, and other behavioral changes attributable to a depression-like state. However, the results presented in the literature are contradictory: sweet solution intake, which is considered as a parameter of hedonic/anhedonic behavior in animals, responds quite differently to stressful situations in that it is either unaffected or increased or decreased. Different experimental designs used for the study of anhedonia in male mice exposed to chronic social defeat stress were tried to understand the reasons for so contradictory responses. Anhedonia appears as an abrupt reduction in sweet solution consumption in stressed animals and by failure to attain recovery after deprivation. However, it was also demonstrated that sucrose solution intake and preference strongly depend on the experimental context; that the possible critical factor may be prior acquaintance with the hedonic stimulus – or the lack whereof. Analysis of literature data and ours allowed us to conclude that the lack of a significant decrease in sweet solution intake in stressed animals is no evidence of lack of depression. This decrease is evidence of anhedonia only provided other symptoms of depression are present. Hedonic consumable intake can be decreased over various motivations, conditions or diseases, in particular, a high level of anxiety or pathological aggression
Dual Hierarchy for Gravitational n-body
The n-body problem is the simulation of pair-wise interactions between n objects. This problem appears in many forms, with the classic example being the modeling of gravitational forces between point masses, necessary for cosmological simulations. Many approximation approaches have been devised to reduce the complexity of this problem.t-SNE is a data visualization method that requires repeatedly solving a variant of the n-body problem. A recent paper (An Efficient Dual-Hierarchy t-SNE Minimization, van de Ruit et. al.) proposes a novel algorithm that outperforms other t-SNE minimization methods on medium-scale datasets. The report proves the viability of a dual-traversal method that uses an embedding tree to emit forces and an independent field tree to collect forces. Because the embedding tree is a Linear-BVH and the field tree is an orthtree built to a fixed depth, the overall algorithm has linear complexity.This thesis demonstrates how the dual-tree approach can be adapted for gravitational n-body simulations. The priority for ideas and philosophy related to "Network Theory" have been traced back and documented by Braun(2004),and credit goes to Karinthy(1929).The IT has empowered to realise it, as the most practical phenomena and it is no more a humour. The OAI (Open Archives Initiatives)and ACIS (Academic Contributor Information System)are progressive in the direction ,which may lead to realise the "Collective Genius" at global level. Focus of present study is on Author-Self-Archiving (A-S-A)Metadata of the 983 Eprints in the Live Archives of the E-LIS (EPrints of Library and Information Science),which were approved till 7th July 2004.The A-S-A Metadata was used for librametric analysis. Identifying idiolect in forensic authorship attribution: an n-gram textbite approach
Forensic authorship attribution is concerned with identifying authors of disputed or anonymous documents, which are potentially evidential in legal cases, through the analysis of linguistic clues left behind by writers. The forensic linguist “approaches this problem of questioned authorship from the theoretical position that every native speaker has their own distinct and individual version of the language [. . . ], their own idiolect” (Coulthard, 2004: 31). However, given the diXculty in empirically substantiating a theory of idiolect, there is growing concern in the Veld that it remains too abstract to be of practical use (Kredens, 2002; Grant, 2010; Turell, 2010). Stylistic, corpus, and computational approaches to text, however, are able to identify repeated collocational patterns, or n-grams, two to six word chunks of language, similar to the popular notion of soundbites: small segments of no more than a few seconds of speech that journalists are able to recognise as having news value and which characterise the important moments of talk. The soundbite oUers an intriguing parallel for authorship attribution studies, with the following question arising: looking at any set of texts by any author, is it possible to identify ‘n-gram textbites’, small textual segments that characterise that author’s writing, providing DNA-like chunks of identifying material
Equivalence of two different notions of tangent bundle on rectifiable metric measure spaces
We prove that for a suitable class of metric measure spaces the abstract notion of tangent module as defined by the first author can be isometrically identified with the space of L2-sections of the ‘Gromov-Hausdorff tangent bundle’. The key assumption that we make is a form of rectifiability for which the space is ‘almost isometrically’ rectifiable (up to m-null sets) via maps that keep under control the reference measure. We point out that RCD∗(K, N) spaces fit in our framework

Entoloma daphnis O.V. Morozova, Kovalenko, E.S. Popov & Noordeloos, sp. nov. (Figs. 9, 10) Mycobank: MB 843253 Type:— VIETNAM. Dong Nai Prov., Tan Phu Dist., Cat Tien National Park, “ Lagerstroemia trail” near the Park’s Headquarters, N 11.426667°, E 107.426389°, 125 m a.s.l., on fallen log in lowland semi-deciduous tropical forest, 14 June 2010, A. Kovalenko (holotype: LE F-262915 (!), as Entoloma nubilum in Morozova et al. 2012, ITS sequence GenBank OM987266, LSU sequence GenBank OM996177). Etymology:—Δάφνις, from δάφνη–laurel (Greek), in Greek mythology, a beautiful young shepherd in Sicily and inventor of pastoral songs, the son of Hermes (Mercury). The butterfly Polyommatus daphnis was named after him. The new Entoloma species is named after this butterfly, due to the similar color. Diagnosis:— Entoloma daphnis is characterized by small pleurotoid basidiomata, small spores with up to the 8 angles, a trichodermal pileipellis (pileus is densely covered by dark blue fibrils) and lack of cheilocystidia. Description:— Basidiomata small, pleurotoid. Pileus 3–7 mm diam., cupulate then reniform with incurved then lobate margin, non hygrophanous, slightly translucently striate, tomentose to finely squamulose, deep blue to dark blue (20D8, 20E7–8). Lamellae moderately distant intermixed with lamellulae, adnate or slightly emarginate, whitish to bluish near the pileal margin then pinkish with concolorous entire edge. Stipe 3–4 × 0.5–1 mm, reduced, eccentric or lateral, curved, pruinose to tomentose, concolorous with the pileus or slightly paler (20D7), with white arachnoid mycelial strands at the base attached to the substratum. Context thin, bluish, under the surface dark blue. Odor indistinct, taste not reported. Basidiospores (7–)8.3(–9) × (5.5–)5.7(–6) μm, Q = (1.3–)1.45(–1.6), heterodiametrical, with 6–8 angles in sideview. Basidia 23–31 × 9–12 μm, clavate, clampless. Lamellae edge fertile. Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia absent. Pileipellis a trichoderm of long hairs, composed of chains of cylindrical cells narrower at the apical part (27–62 × 5.5–6.5 μm), broader at the base (27–62 × 5.5–6.5 μm) with dark blue intracellular pigment. Clamp connections, oleiferous hyphae and brilliant granules absent.
