Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Le développement psychosexuel des adolescents : associations avec le fonctionnement psychosocial
No full textThèse ou mémoire avec insertion d'articles.La présente thèse a pour but d'approfondir l'étude de la sexualité des adolescentes et adolescents âgés entre 14 et 18 ans, à travers l'analyse de leurs dispositions et leurs pratiques sexuelles, et d'explorer son lien avec le concept de soi général, les habiletés interpersonnelles et la capacité d'autorégulation. La première étude fournit un portrait descriptif de ces dispositions et pratiques sexuelles en identifiant des tendances générales et des profils différenciés sur la base du concept de soi sexuel, des aptitudes à négocier des dynamiques relationnelles et du rapport au plaisir sexuel. Les résultats signalent que la plupart des adolescentes et adolescents sont sexuellement actifs mais qu'elles et ils varient grandement quant à leur expérience sexuelle et l'évaluation de leurs dispositions à la sexualité. En effet, plus les jeunes avancent en âge, plus ils tendent à évaluer celles-ci favorablement. Eu égard au genre, les garçons perçoivent leur attrait sexuel de manière plus positive et rapportent moins d'anxiété sexuelle que les filles, mais ils s'estiment moins aptes à négocier les dynamiques relationnelles dans un contexte d'intimité. L'effet de l'âge et du genre ne peuvent toutefois pas expliquer à eux seuls, la variabilité des dispositions sexuelles à l'adolescence, telle que le suggère l'identification, dans la première étude de la thèse, de quatre profils reflétant des patrons de dispositions à la sexualité distincts. La deuxième étude de la thèse qui examine la relation entre le concept de soi sexuel et des compétences psychosociales reconnues comme étant associées au fonctionnement général, montre que les jeunes dont le concept de soi général est plus clair et positif et qui perçoivent avoir de bonnes habiletés interpersonnelles présentent un concept de soi sexuel plus robuste. Celui-ci se caractérise par une estime de soi sexuelle plus élevée, une évaluation plus favorable de leur attrait sexuel, un sentiment plus marqué d'auto-efficacité à faire l'expérience du plaisir sexuel et une plus faible anxiété sexuelle. Le genre et l'expérience sexuelle avec une/un partenaire ne se sont pas avérés des modérateurs significatifs de ces interactions. Les résultats permettent de mieux définir les différences individuelles et les facteurs psychosociaux associés à la sexualité positive à l'adolescence. Ces éléments sont importants pour développer des interventions visant à améliorer leur santé et leur bien-être sexuels en fonction de la réalité et des besoins des jeunes.The purpose of this dissertation is to expand the exploration of adolescent sexuality among individuals between the ages of 14 and 18, through the analysis of their sexual dispositions and practices, and their associations with the general self-concept, interpersonal skills, and self-regulatory abilities. The first study provides a descriptive overview of normative adolescent sexuality by highlighting general trends and identifying differentiated profiles based on adolescents' sexual self-concept, perceived capacity for negotiating relationship dynamics in an intimate context, and their dispositions towards sexual pleasure. The findings suggest that while most adolescents are sexually active, there is a wide range of variation in their sexual experiences and assessment of their own sexual dispositions. Additionally, as adolescents grow older, they tend to rate their sexual dispositions more positively. With respect to gender, boys tend to perceive their sexual body esteem in a more favorable light and report lower levels of sexual anxiety compared to girls. However, they also perceive themselves as less able to negotiate relationship dynamics in an intimate context. The effects of age and gender, however, do not fully account for the variance in adolescent sexual dispositions, as evidenced by the identification of four distinct profiles reflecting different sexual dispositions in the first study. The second study delves further by investigating the relationship between sexual self-concept and psychosocial competencies linked to general functioning. The results suggest that adolescents with a clearer, more positive self-concept and strong interpersonal skills have a more robust sexual self-concept. This is characterized by higher sexual self-esteem, a more favorable evaluation of one's sexual attractiveness, greater feelings of self-efficacy in experiencing sexual pleasure, and lower sexual anxiety. Additionally, no significant moderation was observed between gender and sexual experiences with a partner in these interactions. In sum, this study allows for a better understanding of individual differences and psychosocial factors associated with positive sexuality during adolescence and provides valuable insights for designing interventions that promote sexual health and well-being for adolescents, while taking into account their specific needs and realities

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
