Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Raw data for project: Role of apoptosis and oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of Acanthamoeba spp. infection in the kidneys of hosts with different immunological status
The aim of the research was to analyze the effect of Acanthamoeba spp. on the formation of oxidative stress (assessment of gene expression and concentration of NOX2, NOX4 and Nrf2) and on the apoptosis process (assessment of protein and gene expression of Bcl2, Bax, Cas3 and Cas9) in kidneys of immunocompetent and immunosuppressed Acanthamoeba spp. infected and uninfected mice. This dataset contains the results of determination of parameters of oxidative stress and apoptosis in the kidneys of hosts infected with the parasite. This research was funded by the National Science Center (Poland) (NCN), project entitled "Role of apoptosis and oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of Acanthamoeba spp. infection in the kidneys of hosts with different immunological status", MINIATURA-6, no. 2022/06/X/NZ6/00769.Data deposited in the repository was saved in .csv format.See README.txt file for details on data.</p
The Phenomenology of Decision Making
It is becoming apparent in modern cognitive science that the lack of knowledge about human experiential landscape implies the loss of a very important element, perhaps the very essence. Consequently, a rather new area of research has emerged recently: an attempt at a systematic observation and study of experience. This is the so-called phenomenologically inspired research (or just phenomenological research). Part of this article aims to present this new area of research - it describes the common fundaments of the field and some of its characteristic methodological derivates, relating them to the possibility of studying decision making from the first-person point-of-view, i.e. decision making as an experiential phenomenon (and not as a neurological or behavioural process). The article also presents some of the findings phenomenological studies have led to and some theoretical reflexions encouraged by these insights.experience, experiencing, phenomenology, phenomenological research, reason, first-person
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Balthasar Hacquet kot zgodovinar
The author speaks about Hacquet as a historian of the Slavic peoples and refers to those of Hacquet's works which are of a certain importance for scientific beginnings of the Slavic studies.Avtor se ukvarja s Hacquetom kot zgodovinarjem slovanskih ljudstev in navaja tista njegova dela, ki so pomembna za začetek znanstvenega razvoja slovanskih študij
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Social Work Tales: Client as a “Talking Problem”
In social work context clients with their stories are strongly determined by their
very “client” position, the core of which is a certain “social problem”. Written
social work documents are often like a detailed list of user’s failures, mistakes,
weak sides, deficiencies. The focus of writing is often on confirming whether a
certain behaviour was appropriate or not. The author emphasises that written
documents are not just dead words in the paper, but a sort of act, an
intervention: they have real and actual power as professional opinions, reports,
etc. This article includes recent findings in researching this matter in Slovene
social work practice and suggests how to improve oral and writing professional
practices toward more complex storytelling
