Language and Culture in the European Integration Strategy of Ukraine
No full textThe article analyzes the main problems of the Ukrainian language and culture development in the European integration strategy of our country. To outline the ways of overcoming those in a conceptual dimension the author addressed to the achievements of the foreign and Ukrainian researchers. The research proves that, despite the strengthening of globalization trends, the language and culture in the European integration strategy of Ukraine remain its main priorities. At the same time, there is an urgent need for the institutionalization of Ukraine's cultural diplomacy. Unfortunately, the slow development of cultural diplomacy is caused by the lack of financial and administrative resources, as well as systematic in the cultural initiatives and competent cultural policy formation in general. It is necessary to deepen the most professional vision of its development problems. In order to do this, it will be useful to address to the more successful European states institutionalization experience, to be interpreted in the light of the Ukrainian realities. Most of them have developed entire networks of cultural diplomacy institutions, aimed at cultural values development in a variety of social and cultural contexts. There are bright examples of such institutions as the British Council, the French Institute, the Czech Centre, the Polish Institute, the Goethe-Institute in Ukraine, with their activities contributing to the intercultural cooperation strengthening. A special attention is paid to the concept of multiculturalism in Western Europe. It is found that it required a political recognition of the minorities’ special “life model” as an equitable model for the majority of the host party. The problem is that the “majority – minority” pair remained in the same positions as in the assimilation concept, with the difference only the minority been supported in its otherness, rather than assimilated to the majority. In reality, in spite of good intentions, multiculturalism, emphasizing the distinctive features of different communities, can lead to segregation, the creation of national and / or confessional districts, in which and in relation to which the same stereotypes and mutual prejudice will be maintained. The article shows that tolerance is not only a desirable state of social and interstate communication, but also an indispensable condition for the preservation of peace on the planet
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The Influence of the Value Basis of the Globalization Process on International Relations
No full textThe article is devoted to the analysis of the globalization values, namely tolerance as a necessary condition for the progressive progress of mankind in the XXI century. The research methodology is based on the complex use of general scientific and specific scientific methods: analytical, historical, and conceptual. Based on the work of S. Fedyunina, the manifestations of tolerance in the global space are described: integration of life opportunities, cultural integration; political integration. M. Walzer's scientific experience allowed to substantiate five “regimes of tolerance” in accordance with the social and state system. The difference between this phenomenon in the conditions of a multinational empire, nation state and immigrant society is shown. The notion of tolerance is distinguished from the notions of reconcilability. The study shows the difficulties in implementing absolute tolerance, which does not require any standards at all, because part of the political system is recognized as any cultural community or tradition. The necessity of overcoming psychological stereotypes that hinder tolerant attitude towards others is shown. The need for interaction of collective and personal aspects of formation of socio-cultural context of tolerance in international relations is substantiated. To do this, more attention should be paid to conceptualizing not only theoretical but also practical models of improving international policy, which will take into account both national and international processes of integration and disintegration, will take into account the history of a country, its peoples and various social groups
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Gastronomic Tourism as a Tool of Cultural Branding of Ukraine
No full textThe purpose of the article is to substantiate the “gastronomic tourism” concept in the context of public diplomacy of Ukraine, namely its culinary component, as a tool for building cultural branding of Ukraine to positioning and improving its perception in the international arena through presentations of Ukrainian cuisine, Ukrainian wine and other activities by promoting its culinary heritage, its cultural and historical diversity. The methodological basis of the study is to improve approaches to cultural branding of Ukraine in the international arena by planning the “gastronomic tourism” development not only as a tourist attraction but also as a tool for implementing the strategy of public diplomacy of Ukraine. There are general methods of empirical and theoretical research based on analysis, synthesis, concretization and further generalization of the results to determine the role of “gastronomic tourism” as a means of forming the national branding of Ukraine in the implementation of public strategies, including culinary, diplomacy of Ukraine. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the study of “gastronomic tourism” as a tool for building cultural branding of Ukraine, which contributes to the implementation of public diplomacy strategies of Ukraine and the formation of a positively attractive image of the country in the international arena. Conclusions. The study suggests that gastronomic tourism is a tool of cultural branding and, by the strategies of public diplomacy, is an auxiliary element in understanding the cultural heritage of countries and regions, which influences the formation of branding nation/country as a whole. Gastronomic tourism in Ukraine is under development, which, in turn, leads to a low level of recognition and awareness of Ukrainian culinary culture, heritage and diversity among foreigners, thereby slowing down the implementation of public diplomacy strategies in Ukraine

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
