No full textThe article encompasses an attempt to frame the idea of nomadism and recreate the geopoetical trend in Mariusz Wilk’s work. As far as the idea of nomadism is concerned, a crucial role is played by ‘the nomad writer’ Kenneth White, the author of La Route Bleue and the creator of the term of ‘intellectual nomadism’. Mariusz Wilk holds Ken-neth White’s work in high regard. While White’s deliberations are an inspiration for the author of Tropami rena. Wilk devotes his attention to other ‘nomad writers’ – Bruce Chatwin, Wasilij Golowanow, Henry Miller, Li Bo and others. Simulation Research of Order-Picking Processes in High-Bay Warehouses
No full textIn the paper an effort to use a pre-defined simulation model of a high-bay warehouse was made. It was done in order to research dynamic changes of material-flow in such a logistics facility. The paper consists of brief information about research tools e.g. Siemens Tecnomatix® Plant Simulation software and the logistics facility designing method, pre-defined by author of the paper (the method considers supplementary option, which is the sub-optimisation of functional and spatial areas inside a warehouse being designed with using the method). In addition, phases of the simulation research procedure are briefly described in the paper. The simulation research procedure is defined by author of the paper and it especially consists of constructing and using any simulation model. Chosen results of the research are enriched by some conclusions. Besides, the paper contains suggestions about forthcoming considerations of the research matter

Simulation Method in Research on Material-Flow in a Warehouse
No full textThis paper presents an attempt to apply the simulation model in the study of the dynamic aspects of material-flow in a warehouse. At first the research approach was briefly subjected under explanation and literature review was given. Then simulation tools are noted and various stages of the simulation research procedure, developed by the author of the paper, are discussed. The general way of construction and the use of the simulation model are also described. The paper contains several conclusions based on results of simulation runs as well as suggestions of topics for further study
Combustion of polymers in a low pressure and low oxygen environment
No full textThe effect of low pressure on the behavior of fires is very important to the study of fire safety in the aviation industry. This thesis explores the effect of low pressure on different components of flammability at low pressures, like those encountered at high altitude. An experiment was setup to measure the time to ignition, the mass flux at ignition, as well as the steady burning mass flux for different pressures and oxygen concentrations. The test measured the mass loss, oxygen consumption, soot production and average flame temperature. A square sample of PMMA was burned under different external heat fluxes, total pressures and oxygen concentrations. The experiments were compared to analytical expressions, to try to understand how pressure and oxygen concentration affect the behavior of a fire. Low pressure environment reduced the ignition delay time, indicating a sample is more prone to ignition at lower pressure. On the other hand the sample showed a reduction of steady burning mass flux, indicating the fire is less intense at lower pressure. Analysis of Operations upon Entry into Intermodal Freight Terminals
No full textThe design of intermodal freight terminals requires extensive research and a thorough analysis of the technical, financial and organizational aspects. In the paper, the operation of the reposition of large cargo containers (one of the types of intermodal transport units, ITUs) on the dedicated places is subjected to a discussion. The analysis is carried out with the use of a vehicle equipped with a telescopic arm, such as a reach stacker. The considered storage facility is reduced to a block characterized by spatial accumulation given in the paper. The description of the procedure for the execution of the handling operation from the arrival of a tractor-trailer with a container into a terminal, followed by the ITUs being set aside in a dedicated place and, in the end, the departure of the truck without load, is given in the paper. The activities are described in detail in order to present a descriptive model of particular operations upon entry to the intermodal freight terminal. Moreover, the paper contains relevant figures illustrating the various steps of realization and the analysis of duration of activities supported by actual realizations. The durations of the individual activities described in the paper are experimental, and the results have been validated on real-world intermodal freight terminals. Therefore, the authors believe that the obtained values may be used in analytical, simulation and numerical models of intermodal freight terminals
