Programa de Pós-graduação em LiteraturaEsta dissertação investiga procedimentos da escritura de Evandro Affonso Ferreira, autor brasileiro contemporâneo com cinco livros publicados até o momento. Estes procedimentos são estudados a partir de como suas personagens se movem. O trabalho se divide em duas partes: a primeira é um jogo entre uma galeria (possível e falhada) de estúpidos e suas "vidas infames", acerca da experiência e da existência precárias dessas personagens. O jogo se dá num contágio com as artes visuais (Marcelo Coutinho, Elida Tessler e León Ferrari) e com alguns outros textos ficcionais de autores como Gusmán, Kafka, Melville, Walser etc. A segunda é como o autor trabalha com seus textos, seus livros e o léxico que usa - as palavras sonoras -, como se tudo isso formasse um só livro, livre numa biblioteca de babel da língua, da imaginação, da memória, da literatura. O livro como objeto que compõe a trajetória de um autor-leitor, a sua coleção babélica. Para isso faço uso de teóricos como Agamben, Benjamin, Blanchot, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault entre outros. This dissertation investigates writing procedures by Evandro Affonso Ferreira, a contemporary Brazilian author with five books published so far. These procedures are studied according to the movement of the characters. The work is divided in two parts: the first one is a game for a galery (possible and failed) of stupids and its "infamous lives" regarding the precarious experience and existence of these characters. The game happens in an involvement with the visual arts (Marcelo Coutinho, Elida Tessler and León Ferrari) and with some other fictional texts from authors like Gusmán, Kafka, Melville, Walser etc. The second one is how the author works with his texts, books and the lexicon he uses - the sonorous words -, as all this would form a single (an unique) book, free in a Babel library of the language, of the imagination, of the memory, of the literature. The book as an object that compounds the trajectory of an author-reader, his Babelic collection. For this I use the theories of Agamben, Benjamin, Blanchot, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault and others
SHORT COMMUNICATION: Impact of low- and medium-oil corn dried distillers’ grains plus solubles on growth performance of feedlot cattle
No full textDuring backgrounding, low-oil dried corn distillersâ grains plus solubles (LO-DDGS) resulted in higher DM intake (P=0.002) and increased ADG (P=0.03) in steers compared to medium-oil (MO) DDGS. Inclusion of 20% DDGS tended (P=0.06) to increase ADG compared to 10% DDGS. During finishing, MO-DDGS improved (P=0.03) feed efficiency compared to LO-DDGS.The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page. No full textA partir do arcabouço teórico da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (LSF), este texto é uma réplica ao texto de Souza (2011), em que são discutidos aspectos sobre o conceito de instanciação, assim como a tradução de alguns termos do sistema de avaliatividade (Martin & White, 2005) para a língua portuguesa presentes no texto de Vian Jr (2009). O objetivo aqui é (1) reforçar os argumentos apresentados em Vian Jr (2009) para os termos avaliatividade, engajamento e valoração como correspondentes a appraisal, engagement e valuation por um lado e, por outro, (2) apontar para as incoerências no texto de Souza (2011), bem como suas posturas em relação à teoria.Within the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework, this text is a reply to Souza (2011), and the aspects discussed by the author on the concept of instantiation as well as the translation of some terms of the Appraisal system (Martin & White, 2005) into Portuguese as suggested by Vian Jr (2009). The aim is to (1) strengthen the arguments presented in Vian Jr (2009) for the terms avaliatividade, engajamento and valoração as the corresponding translations for appraisal, engagement and valuation on the one hand and, on the other, (2) point to the inconsistencies in Souza's text (2011), as well as her positions regarding the theory

(Figs 1–3) Material: holotype specimen Ps- 2-32, in the same piece of amber as a Coleoptera: Histeridae; in the Poinar amber collection maintained at Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR 97331 USA. The specimen originated from La Toca mine in the northern mountain range of the Dominican Republic. Etymology: after Arthur Waller, grandson of the second author (A.W.). Description: head 0.62 mm long, about 0.8 mm wide; labrum without ridges from base to margin; lacinia with small outer tooth and broad inner cusp divided into several smaller teeth; maxillary palp with P 4 0.16 mm long, P 3 0.06 mm long, P 2 0.10 mm long, P 2 with a strong apical spur; three ocelli present, arranged in triangle, lateral ocelli much larger than median ocellus, lateral ocellus 0.2 mm, median ocellus 0.1 mm; antenna with 12 flagellomeres; scape 0.16 mm long, pedicel 0.08 mm long; first flagellar segment f 1 0.2 mm long, second f 2 0.2 mm long; several long setae on frons; compound eyes large, reaching hind margin of head capsule; median epicranial suture not visible. Fore wing glabrous, 2.6 mm long, 1.0 mm wide; colour pattern with mottling of irregular confluent dark marks, the margins with alternating brown and colourless banding; wing margin without incurving between branches of veins; pterostigma dark, thick, 0.17 mm wide; Rs and M fused for a short distance, 0.6 mm; areola postica 0.46 mm long, 0.09 mm wide, not joined to M by a cross-vein. Bioética em discurso: efeitos sobre os processos de constituição do sujeito enfermeira/o na terapia intensiva

Programa de Pós-graduação em EnfermagemInvestigação qualitativa, balizada na analítica foucaultiana com aproximações ao referencial pós-estruturalista, tendo como objetivos: analisar a constituição histórica do discurso da bioética em sua articulação com o discurso da tecnobiomedicina e o modo como os desdobramentos estratégicos e tecnológicos deste discurso atravessam o processo de produção do sujeito enfermeiro/a gerando determinados modos de conceber e intervir deste sujeito no contexto da terapia intensiva; conhecer as tensões no fazer/saber enfermagem que podem ser discursivamente articuladas à bioética, ou problematizadas a partir da emergência deste discurso. A tese utilizou fontes documentais e de entrevistas com enfermeiros/as intensivistas e teve sua proposição aprovada por Comitê de Ética (Parecer n° 186/07/CEP/UFSC). O corpus documental foi composto por 113 artigos publicados no período de 1984-2007, nos periódicos nacionais de enfermagem: Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem, Revista Acta Paulista, Revista Texto & Contexto Enfermagem, Revista Escola de Enfermagem USP), Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem, além da Revista o Mundo da Saúde (multidisciplinar). A busca foi orientada pelos descritores bioética e UTI e enfermagem, ética e UTI, bioética e enfermagem e ampliada para artigos com temas relacionais com a bio/ética. Foram entrevistados/as 20 (vinte) enfermeiros/as inseridos/as no contexto da terapia intensiva, utilizando-se o critério de saturação de dados. Com baliza ao corpus de análise, foram exploradas as temáticas das iatrogenias, autonomia e responsabilidade no cuidar. Na temática iatrogenias, ativou-se uma reflexão sobre o agir do/a enfermeiro/a em um contexto permeado pela possibilidade sempre latente de falhar tanto no procedimento como na conduta; e do encontro deste profissional com a obrigação de corrigir esta falha, não tanto ou não apenas no conhecimento ou na lei, mas na prática de si mesmo. O tema da autonomia foi analisado a partir do conceito de cuidado de si, desdobrando-se em categorias que expressaram o privilegiamento da moral como obediência à Lei; da conduta e da moral sobre o conhecimento técnico; e da governabilidade de si no confronto com a técnica. Estas se configuraram como possibilidades éticas do sujeito enfermeira/o intensivista, não como etapas seqüenciais ou concorrentes, mas coligadas e confluentes na experiência atual. A questão da responsabilidade do cuidar desdobrou-se em categorias que expressaram a responsabilidade frente às novas linguagens e a enfermagem como guardiã de certos atributos da UTI. Autonomia e responsabilidade no cuidar, de um lado, evidenciaram algumas possibilidades éticas do sujeito enfermeira/o, constituídas e desfeitas estrategicamente na contingência histórica; de outro lado, permitiram mapear um dos desdobramentos estratégicos e tecnológicos do discurso da bio/ética, gerando modos de conceber e intervir do sujeito enfermeiro/a na UTI. Uma autonomia como prática de si; uma responsabilidade do cuidar que evidencia uma #sutileza# na obrigação do dever ser, em um tempo de viver a enfermagem, também, como perita, conselheira, autoridade patente. Ao contrário de um apagamento da relação paradoxal entre a responsabilidade e a autonomia dos/as enfermeiros/as, sinalizou-se as múltiplas possibilidades de combinações de graus de autonomia e de responsabilidade, nem sempre ideais ou caminhando no mesmo sentido. This qualitative investigation, landmarked in Foucaltian analysis with approximationg to post-structuralist theory, explores iatrogenias as one of the tensions of nursing performance/knowledge which can be discursively articulated to bioethics and to techno biomedicine. Documental sources and interviews with intensive care nurses permitted an activation of reflection upon a nurse#s actions in a context permeated by the always latent possibility of failing, in both procedure and conduct. Based on such possibility, intensive care nurses find themselves obligated to correct their failure, not as much or merely in knowledge, nor law, but in self practice
Gamifying RPI: The benefits of avatars and knowledge-induced coworker familiarity
No full textThe growth of the gamification industry has increased the use of avatar-enhanced leaderboards as a method of providing public relative performance information (RPI). This study examines the effect of representing employees as humanlike avatars in public leaderboards on employees’ effort to improve their leaderboard performance (i.e., self-focused effort). Additionally, since practitioners have expressed concern that competition induced by leaderboards may reduce helping behavior, I also examine the effect of humanlike avatars on subsequent helping behavior toward coworkers on unrelated tasks (i.e., others-focused effort). Using an experiment, I find that representing employees with humanlike avatars increases both self-focused and subsequent others-focused effort when coworkers know little about each other, but that humanlike avatars do not increase either form of effort when coworkers know relatively more about each other. A supplemental experiment demonstrates that these effects are robust to using both humanlike silhouettes and headshot photographs as alternative forms of avatars.
