Laser based hybrid inkjet printing of nanoink for flexible electronics
Many applications require delivery of small quantities of functional materials into locations on a substrate in the form of liquid solution. Consequently, interest in nongraphical inkjet printing is growing. In addition, higher resolution for printing flexible electronics is becoming more critical to enhance the performance of printing electronics. Since the resolution of inkjet process is limited by the nozzle size and the statistical variation of droplet flight and spreading phenomena, hybrid inkjet printing has emerged as an attractive processing method. In this work, surface monolayer protected gold nanoparticle was printed in a liquid solution form and cured by laser irradiation to fabricate electrically conductive microlines on glass or polymer substrate at a reduced temperature. Continuous laser curing enabled local heating and the morphology could be controlled as well. Thermal penetration into the substrate could be minimized by using pulsed laser beam. Nanoparticle film was effectively removed by applying femtosecond laser, so that small feature size was obtained. Printing on a heated substrate has advantages over room temperature printing. The solvent evaporates soon after contact, so that a thick layer can be deposited with high jetting frequency. The rapid liquid evaporation also eliminated uneven wetting problems and the smaller feature size was obtained.N
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Explosive crystallization in the presence of melting
An experimental investigation of explosive crystallization (EC) of thin amorphous Ge films deposited on a solid substrate is performed, and a theory of EC front propagation accompanied by melting in a class of films that includes Ge films is developed. The experiments show that the propagation of a planar EC front is possible for a certain range of substrate temperatures and film thicknesses. It is found that for substrate temperatures larger than a certain threshold, the macroscopically planar front leaves behind a columnar microstructure in the crystal. The theory of EC front propagation is based on the experimental observation that the propagating front exhibits a thin layer of Ge melt between the amorphous and crystalline phases. A uniformly propagating planar front solution is determined, whose propagation speed is found as a function of the substrate temperature and the heat loss parameter that, in turn, depends on the film thickness. A linear stability analysis of the uniformly propagating EC front with a melting layer is performed. It is found that in a certain interval of substrate temperatures the EC front undergoes a monotonic morphological instability with a preferred wave number that explains the formation of the columnar structures observed in experiments. We also perform a nonlinear analysis describing the evolution of the morphological instability. The interval of substrate temperatures for which the instability is observed, as well as the wavelength of the columnar structure, are found to be in good agreement with experimental observations.N
A numerical investigation on AC electrowetting of a droplet
We numerically analyze the AC electric field around a droplet placed on an insulator-covered electrode. The time-averaged effective electrical wetting tension, which is a function of AC frequency, is computed by integrating the Maxwell stress. The computed wetting tension is compared with the experimental result converted from the separately obtained contact-angle data. There is a good agreement between the two results at a low-frequency range and a qualitative agreement at a high-frequency range. Interestingly, the numerical results show that the electric-field strength decreases remarkably in the insulating layer near the TCL as the AC frequency increases. This decrease may account for the delay of the dielectric breakdown of an insulating layer in the AC case, which could be related to the contact-angle saturation phenomenon.X1145sciescopu
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
