AN ISSUE OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN JAPAN: FOR WHOM COMPANIES EXIST?
What is corporate governance? This concept has been interpreted in various ways. In the USA the corporate governance is to subordinate a company’s managers to the shareholders’ benefit. In contrast, the European type of corporate governance attaches importance to the social value of a company from the standpoint of stakeholders in the wide sense. In this paper I will examine desirable direction of the Japanese type of corporate governance. For that purpose, firstly, specific features and problems of the Japanese style management will be examined. Secondly, introducing opinions of two representative researchers in Japan, problems of the American type of corporate governance will be examined.

Mid-Air Ultrasonic Stimulations of the Palm - The Influence of Frequency and Stimulus Duration on Perceived Intensity
It is known that the duration of a short stimulus affects the perceived intensity of both visual, auditory, and, vibrotactile events, but it is still unclear whether such a relationship also exists for mid-air ultrasonic inputs to the hand. Here we investigate this issue and show how the perceived intensity of focused ultrasonic stimulations of the palm is indeed systematically related to stimulus duration - a relationship that is, however, independent of modulation frequency. This is an important finding for the overall goal of providing perceptually stronger inputs and enlarging the repertoire of realistic mid-air haptic experiences.Human Information Communication Desig
Continuous follicle-stimulating hormone exposure from pituitary adenoma causes periodic follicle recruitment and atresia, which mimics ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

Several reports have revealed that serum FSH levels are normal to slightly high in patients with combined FSH-secreting pituitary adenoma with ovarian hyperstimulation. This finding is different from iatrogenic ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which is associated with extremely high levels of FSH.Objective: To describe the clinical course of two patients who developed OHSS from FSH-secreting pituitary adenoma. Results: Endocrine studies of the two cases revealed that FSH levels were normal or slightly increased, but luteinizing hormone levels were low to undetectable. Their estradiol (E2) levels were intriguing: levels fluctuated drastically over 6 weeks in Case 1, but stayed flat in Case 2. Ultrasonographic examinations showed bilaterally enlarged multicystic ovaries, and magnetic resonance imaging indicated pituitary tumors. Transsephenoidal resection of the tumors ameliorated the symptoms and pathological diagnosis revealed FSH-secreting pituitary adenomas. Conclusion: As is not the case in iatrogenic OHSS, even a small to moderate amount of FSH stimulation, which is continuously secreted by a pituitary adenoma, can cause ovarian hyperstimulation. Although FSH-secreting pituitary adenoma can cause ovarian hyperstimulation, an extremely high amount of E2 biosynthesis from granulosa cells seldom occurs. Keywords: pituitary adenoma, OHSS, FSH, estradiol, luteinizing hormon
The corrected blood urea nitrogen predicts the developmental quotient of extremely low-birth-weight infants at the corrected age of 36 months

authorBackground : Currently, there are no nutritional indices to predict cognitive function in extremely low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants. Objective : To assess the neonatal blood urea nitrogen (BUN) values in ELBW infants according to their cognitive function at the corrected age of 36 months. Methods : This was a retrospective study that assessed the neonatal factors affecting the developmental outcome in two groups “developmental quotient (DQ) ≥ 80” and “DQ < 80”, the groups were divided based on the DQ at the corrected age of 36 months. Between 1996 and 1999, 178 ELBW infants born at < 28 weeks of gestation were admitted to our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), of these, 32 died. Of the surviving 146 infants, 37 infants without any exclusion criteria (that would affect the cognitive function and BUN) except the nutritional factor, were assessed. Area under the curve (AUC) of corrected BUN (CBUN: BUN × 0.5/serum creatinine) from 28 to 84 days of life was used as an index of protein intake. Results : No significant differences were observed between the two groups with regard to the gestational age, birth weight, Z score of birth weight, and sex. However, compared to 15 infants with DQ < 80, 22 infants with DQ ≥ 80 had significantly shorter duration of artificial ventilation and O2 supplementation, a higher Apgar score at 5 min, and a higher AUC of CBUN. On multiple regression analysis, DQ ≥ 80 was observed to be significantly correlated with the AUC of CBUN (Odd's ratio 1.03, 95% confidence interval: 1.002–1.06). Conclusion : The CBUN level would provide an estimate of adequate protein intake and the subsequent development of an ELBW infant
