Electron spin resonance measurement with microinductor on chip
The detection of radicals on a chip is demonstrated. The proposed method is based on electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy and the measurement of high-frequency impedance of the microinductor fabricated on the chip. The measurement was by using a frequency sweep of approximately 100MHz. The ESR spectra of di(phenyl)-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)iminoazanium (DPPH) dropped on the microinductor which is fabricated with CMOS 350-nm technology were observed at room temperature. The volume of the DPPH ethanol solution was 2L, and the number of spins on the micro-inductor was estimated at about 10 1 4. The sensitivity is not higher than that of the standard ESR spectrometers. However, the result indicates the feasibility of a near field radical sensor in which the microinductor as a probe head and ESR signal processing circuit are integrated. Wireless moisture sensor using a microstrip antenna
A wireless moisture sensor has been developed on the basis of the backscatter characteristic of the microstrip antenna, which works in the far field without a battery. This study aims to develop a wireless sensor with a long communication distance and to apply the wireless applications, such as monitoring the moisture in the wrapped products and surface adsorption of hydrogen peroxide in the biological isolation systems. The dropwise addition of the distilled water on the cleaning tissue is clearly detected by the measurement of the backscattered power from the sensor at the frequencies of 0.954GHz and 2.45GHz. The ratio of the backscattered power in two frequency bands can be used as an index to measure moisture. Copyright © 2011 Tatsuo Toba and Akio Kitagawa
Circuit implementation, operation, and simulation of multivalued nonvolatile static random access memory using a resistivity change device
We proposed and computationally analyzed a multivalued, nonvolatile SRAM using a ReRAM. Two reference resistors and a programmable resistor are connected to the storage nodes of a standard SRAM cell. The proposed 9T3R MNV-SRAM cell can store 2 bits of memory. In the storing operation, the recall operation and the successive decision operation of whether or not write pulse is required can be performed simultaneously. Therefore, the duration of the decision operation and the circuit are not required when using the proposed scheme. In order to realize a stable recall operation, a certain current (or voltage) is applied to the cell before the power supply is turned on. To investigate the process variation tolerance and the accuracy of programmed resistance, we simulated the effect of variations in the width of the transistor of the proposed MNV-SRAM cell, the resistance of the programmable resistor, and the power supply voltage with 180 nm 3.3 V CMOS HSPICE device models. © 2013 Kazuya Nakayama and Akio Kitagawa.© 2013 K. Transcription dynamics of rice GIGANTEA modeled using GenomeBasedModel
This is an analysis example of the R package GenomeBasedModel.
The package has been developed by the author for estimating parameters of arbitrary biological statistical models and effects of genome-wide SNPs on the parameters simultaneously by building prior distributions based on the SNPs for the parameters.
Here transcription dynamics of rice GIGANTEA is modeled using the package. See also https://github.com/Onogi/GenomeBasedModel/ for the package

REVIEW OF: "Kawauchi Akio, Splitting a 4-manifold with infinite cyclic fundamental group, revised, J. Knot Theory Ramifications 22, No. 14, Article ID 1350081, 9 p. (2013)". [DE062730205]
In [Osaka J. Math. 31(3), 489-495 (1994; Zbl 0849.57018 )], the author stated that every closed connected
orientable 4-manifold M with infinite cyclic fundamental group is TOP-split, i.e. it is homeomorphic to
the connected sum (S1 × S3)#M1, M1 being a closed simply connected 4-manifold. However, in [Manuscr.
Math. 93(4), 435-442 (1997; Zbl 0890.57034)], Hambleton and Teichner obtained a counterexample to the
above general statement.
In the paper under review, the author makes a revision and proves that TOP-splittability holds under the
additional hypothesis that a finite covering of M is TOP-split. In particular, the original statement turns
out to be true in the case of indefinite intersection form, as well as for any smooth spin 4-manifold (with
infinite cyclic fundamental group).
The proof of the revised statement makes use of notions developed in [Knots in Hellas 98, Ser. Knots
Everything. 24 (World Scientific Publishing), 208-228 (2000; Zbl 0969.57020)] and [Atti Semin. Mat. Fis.
Univ. Modena 48(2), 405-424 (2000; Zbl 1028.57019)], together with the key result - proved in [Osaka J.
Math. 31(3), 489-495 (1994; Zbl 0849.57018 )] - that every closed connected orientable 4-manifold M with
infinite cyclic fundamental group is homology cobordant to (S1 × S3)#M1.
Consequences about surface-knots in S4 are also considered (see [J. Knot Theory Ramifications 4(2), 213-224
(1995; Zbl 0844.57020)])
