Health Hazard Evaluation Report: HETA-82-056-1186: Monroe County Incinerator; Key Largo, Florida
No full textPossible biohazards associated with the handling of hospital waste at the Monroe County Incinerator (SIC-4953), North Key Largo Facility, Key Largo, Florida were investigated. The incinerator employed 12 workers. The study was requested by an employee and was performed on January 6 and 7, 1981. Interviews were conducted with employees and incinerator ash was analyzed. Workers had observed blood leaking from bags onto truck beds and the incinerator floor. Grate ash contained from 0.08 to 0.12 percent volatile material. This was consistent with municipal incinerator operations. The author concludes that no biohazard was identified at the incinerator. The authors conclude that worker exposure to infectious wastes due to breakage of disposal bags because of mishandling was possible. The authors recommend that the bill enacted by the 1982 Florida Legislature be strictly observed regarding the labeling and transport of hospital waste. Access points to the ash conveyor channel should be guarded properly, and equipment to remove and convey hopper ash with minimal exposure of workers should be provided
Analysis of the Effects of Large Lot Zoning
No full textThis study extends a test for the presence of binding zoning, originally developed to be applied across many adjacent jurisdictions, so that it can be applied within a single jurisdiction. This study also demonstrates how to carry out this test in the presence of spatially correlated OLS residuals by using a mixed effects model whose coefficients are estimated using the maximum likelihood technique. The study examines twenty years of land sales data from a Midwestern county containing two adjacent cities surrounded by rural areas. A thirty-five-acre acre, minimum lot size in the rural area is found to be binding; while a 9,000 square foot minimum lot size in the cities is found to be not binding.

No full textThe purpose of this thesis is to give examples of how very different genres of music can live in cohabitation with the same respect and admiration within the world of music. This thesis explores the origins of each genre, the inherent differences between the two, and the process its author followed to produce the finished product. Mr. Brooks draws from his experience as both a professional bluegrass and classical musician and demonstrates through his own compositions how the two genres can be meshed and formed into a hybrid which could be performed respectively in front of experts in either of the two fields. The process of this thesis may be broken down into a few key areas such as 1.) Inspiration, 2.) Choosing a voice part, 3.) Transcription of melody, 4.) Composition of accompaniment, 5.) Input to Finale, and 6.) Performance
