Impact of the Formal Opening of the AKASHI -Grand bridge on the Business of Tokushima-Area Wholesalers,and Their Collaboration Efforts in Physical Distribution and Information-Processing
The formal opening of the AKASHI-Grandbridge in 1998, will produce a serious effect on the business activities of Tokushima-area wholesalers while increasing its business chances. What are the concerns? How we can overcome them? Role of biochar in promoting circular economy in the agriculture sector. Part 1: A review of the biochar roles in soil N, P and K cycles
Recently, biochar has been widely used for versatile applications in agriculture and environment sectors as an efec‑
tive tool to minimise waste and to increase the efciency of circular economy. In the present work, we review the
current knowledge about biochar role in N, P and K cycles. Ammonia volatilisation and N2O emission can be reduced
by biochar addition. The content of available P can be improved by biochar through enhancement of solubilisation
and reduction in P fxation on soil mineral, whilst high extractable K in biochar contributes to K cycle in soil. Liming
efect and high CEC are important properties of biochars improving benefcial interactions with N, P and K soil cycle
processes. The efectiveness of biochar on N, P and K cycles is associated with biochar properties which are mainly

Potential dual targeting of an Arabidopsis archaebacterial-like histidyl-tRNA synthetase to mitochondria and chloroplasts1EMBL/Genbank/DDBJ accession no: AF020715.1
AbstractA cDNA clone encoding a histidyl-tRNA synthetase (HisRS) was characterized from Arabidopsis thaliana. The deduced amino acid sequence (AtHRS1) is surprisingly more similar to HisRSs from archaebacteria than those from eukaryotes and prokaryotes. AtHRS1 has an N-terminal extension with features characteristic of mitochondrial and chloroplast transit peptides. Transient expression assays in tobacco protoplasts clearly demonstrated efficient targeting of a fusion peptide consisting of the first 71 amino acids of AtHRS1 joined to jellyfish green fluorescent protein (GFP) to both mitochondria and chloroplasts. These observations suggest that the AtHisRS1 cDNA encodes both mitochondrial and chloroplast histidyl-tRNA synthetases
Citrulline, a novel compatible solute in drought-tolerant wild watermelon leaves, is an efficient hydroxyl radical scavenger
AbstractDrought-tolerant wild watermelon accumulates high levels of citrulline in the leaves in response to drought conditions. In this work, the hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity of citrulline was investigated in vitro. The second-order rate constant for the reaction between citrulline and hydroxyl radicals was found to be 3.9×109 M−1 s−1, demonstrating that citrulline is one of the most efficient scavengers among compatible solutes examined so far. Moreover, citrulline effectively protected DNA and an enzyme from oxidative injuries. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis revealed that at least four major products were formed by the reaction between citrulline and hydroxyl radicals. Activities of metabolic enzymes were not inhibited by up to 600 mM citrulline, indicating that citrulline does not interfere with cellular metabolism. We reasoned, from these results, that citrulline contributes to oxidative stress tolerance under drought conditions as a novel hydroxyl radical scavenger

Chemical profiling of Jatropha tissues under different torrefaction conditions: application to biomass waste recovery.
Gradual depletion of the world petroleum reserves and the impact of environmental pollution highlight the importance of developing alternative energy resources such as plant biomass. To address these issues, intensive research has focused on the plant Jatropha curcas, which serves as a rich source of biodiesel because of its high seed oil content. However, producing biodiesel from Jatropha generates large amounts of biomass waste that are difficult to use. Therefore, the objective of our research was to analyze the effects of different conditions of torrefaction on Jatropha biomass. Six different types of Jatropha tissues (seed coat, kernel, stem, xylem, bark, and leaf) were torrefied at four different temperature conditions (200°C, 250°C, 300°C, and 350°C), and changes in the metabolite composition of the torrefied products were determined by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. Cellulose was gradually converted to oligosaccharides in the temperature range of 200°C-300°C and completely degraded at 350°C. Hemicellulose residues showed different degradation patterns depending on the tissue, whereas glucuronoxylan efficiently decomposed between 300°C and 350°C. Heat-induced depolymerization of starch to maltodextrin started between 200°C and 250°C, and oligomer sugar structure degradation occurred at higher temperatures. Lignin degraded at each temperature, e.g., syringyl (S) degraded at lower temperatures than guaiacyl (G). Finally, the toxic compound phorbol ester degraded gradually starting at 235°C and efficiently just below 300°C. These results suggest that torrefaction is a feasible treatment for further processing of residual biomass to biorefinery stock or fertilizer
Sounds of parting and longing : music and narrative in Genji monogatari
Genji monogatari is one of the most important works of Japanese premodern literature, written in the eleventh century by the court lady known as Murasaki Shikibu (c. 973–1014). This thesis will focus on the musical aspects of the narrative, namely performance scenes and the accompanying dialogues and poetic exchanges. While the abundance of musical scenes in the Genji is widely recognized in scholarship, there are still many aspects to be further researched. My primary goal is to show how music is a constitutive element of the text that deeply impacts narrative development and the relationship between characters. I will focus on the scenes concerning the Akashi Lady, a prominent female character in the tale who stands out for her close connection with music.
In Chapter 1, I introduce gagaku, the musical tradition found in The Tale of Genji, giving a brief overview of its history, main genres, and a description of the instruments used. In Chapter 2, the core of this thesis, I analyze selected excerpts from Chapter 13 “Akashi,” and discuss scenes from later chapters that relate to the Akashi narrative, showing how music is an inseparable part of the Akashi Lady’s character which plays a crucial role in establishing her relationship with the protagonist Genji, while contributing to her path of social ascension. Through a close reading of the text and consideration of scholarship on the Genji, gagaku, and on music in the Genji, I demonstrate how music is conceived by the author as a narrative device. By arguing that music in the Genji should be treated as a form of narrative and not as a separate aspect that adds certain characteristics to the text, I hope to expand the interpretive possibilities not only of music, but other artistic manifestations present in the work.Arts, Faculty ofAsian Studies, Department ofGraduat

The author argues that the first part of the Tale of Genji has as its main theme a realization of the perpetual prosperity of the \u27ie\u27. From this point of view, the author contrastively analyzes the structure of the Akashi family and that of the Kiritsubo family. In the second part of the paper, the author compares the thematic structure of the \u27ie\u27 of the Tale of Genji with the structure of the Toshikage family of the Tale of Utsubo in terms of some similarity between the two. Finally, the author discusses the relation between the realization of the perpetual prosperity of the \u27ie\u27 and the throne to which Hikaru Genji is entitled
