The tourism competitiveness of Foz do Iguacu under the determinants of Integrative Model of Dwyer & Kim: analyzing the strategy to construction of the future
This article examines recent tourism studies about the city of Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, which were based destination management policies, from the perspective of the determinants of competitiveness as defined by Dwyer & Kim (2003), in their conceptual model "Integrative Model." Verifies dimensions, determinants and indicators of competitiveness have been considered. The results indicate that the reports have included all dimensions of competitiveness, with its determinants recommended by Dwyer and Kim, though that was not developed with this objective and theoretical base. But concerning the indicators of measures of the determinants, empirical verification has not exhausted all recommended by the model.
Ding–Iohara–Miki symmetry of network matrix models
AbstractWard identities in the most general “network matrix model” from [1] can be described in terms of the Ding–Iohara–Miki algebras (DIM). This confirms an expectation that such algebras and their various limits/reductions are the relevant substitutes/deformations of the Virasoro/W-algebra for (q,t) and (q1,q2,q3) deformed network matrix models. Exhaustive for these purposes should be the Pagoda triple-affine elliptic DIM, which corresponds to networks associated with 6d gauge theories with adjoint matter (double elliptic systems). We provide some details on elliptic qq-characters
MIKI: A case study of an intelligent kiosk and its usability
MIKI is a three-dimensional directory assistance-type digital persona displayed on a prominently-positioned 50 inch plasma unit housed at the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis. MIKI, which stands for Memphis Intelligent Kiosk Initiative, guides students, faculty and visitors through the Institute\u27s maze of classrooms, labs, lecture halls and offices through graphically-rich, multidimensional, interactive, touch and voice sensitive digital content. MIKI differs from other intelligent kiosk systems by its advanced natural language understanding capabilities that provide it with the ability to answer informal verbal queries without the need for rigorous phraseology. This chapter first describes, in general, the design and implementation of the Intelligent Kiosk. We then describe a usability study conducted to evaluate the functionality of the system. While the usability testing exemplified good interface design in a number of areas, the complexity of multiple modalities - including animated graphics, speech technology and an avatar greeter - complicated usability testing, leaving developers seeking improved instruments. In particular, factors such as gender and technical background of the user seemed to change the way that various kiosk tasks were perceived, deficiencies were observed in speech interaction as well as the location information in a 3D animated map. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg

HX‐1171, a Novel Nrf2 Activator, Induces NQO1 and HMOX1 Expression
HX-1171 (1-O-hexyl-2,3,5-trimethylhydroquinone) is a novel synthesized vitamin E derivative, which reportedly has positive effects on various diseases and conditions, such as liver fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, and cancer. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptional activity induced by HX-1171. Results from reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and promoter assays reveal that HX-1171 increased the expression of NQO1 and HMOX1, encoding antioxidant-related enzymes, in A549 human lung epithelial cells. The activity of nuclear factor-E2-related factor (Nrf2), a key transcriptional factor for antioxidative enzymes, was examined in HX-1171-treated cells. Confocal microscopy and Western blotting showed that HX-1171 effectively induced the nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity of Nrf2. We conclude that HX-1171, a novel Nrf2 activator, may be a promising therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-induced diseases. J. Cell. Biochem. 118: 3372?3380, 2017.
The complete chloroplast genome of Utricularia tenuicaulis Miki (Lentibulariaceae) isolated in Korea
Utricularia tenuicaulis Miki 1935 is an aquatic carnivorous plant species found in East Asia including Korea and Japan. In this study, the chloroplast genome of U. tenuicaulis was successfully sequenced. The assembled genome (153,976 bp; GC ratio, 37.0%) contains four subregions, with the large single copy (LSC; 84,596 bp; 34.9%) and small single copy (SSC; 17,946 bp; 30.5%) regions separated by 25,718 bp of inverted repeat regions (42.7%), and includes 126 genes (81 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs). Phylogenetic analyses based on the whole-chloroplast genomes of 18 species, including 17 Lentibulariaceae species and one outgroup species, suggest a close relationship between U. tenuicaulis and Utricularia macrorhiza Leconte 1824. A comparison of genomic variation between U. tenuicaulis and U. macrorhiza confirmed the validity of the specific discrimination of U. tenuicaulis
