Developing pedagogical content knowledge of science teachers through action research: A case study from Pakistan
The aim of this study is to analyze the action research undertaken by Khan as a teacher researcher in a private school as part of the degree requirement of his M.Ed. program in Teacher Education at the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development. The purpose of this analysis undertaken by the first author and supervisor of the study in collaboration with Khan was to understand the development of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of the teacher researcher through action research in a science classroom in the context of Pakistan. Khan taught the concepts of heat and temperature using an inquiry based pedagogy to grade 9 physics class and also examined his own practice of this innovation using action research. Using Carlsen’s concept of PCK as the lens for analysis of the research report written by Khan the first author finds that transforming his understanding of the topic to teach with the indicated instructional strategy required him to transform his own understanding of science content. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap buku tafsir karya Ahmad Khan merupakan tafsir yang sedang dirintis, belum sempurna dan belum selesai. Ahmad Khan keluar dari tradisi ulama tafsir yang lazim mencari makna leksikal teks dan kemudian ia menerapkan metode tafsir kontekstual adalah suatu tindakan yang sangat luar biasa di zamannya. Buku Tafsir Alquran yang dihasilkan oleh Ahmad Khan tidak sekedar tafsir modern, seperti yang dijuluki oleh banyak ahli, melainkan merupakan suatu kitab tafsir hermeneutik. Walaupun belakangan ini muncul pemikiran para penafsir liberal yang dinilai cukup berani, namun buku tafsir Ahmad Khan belum dapat ditandingi, paling tidak belum dapat dikalahkan kehebatannya. Phylogeography of the smooth-coated otter (Lutrogale perspicillata): distinct evolutionary lineages and hybridization with the Asian small clawed otter (Aonyx cinereus)
We investigated the phylogeography of the smooth-coated otter (Lutrogale perspicillata) to determine its spatial genetic structure for aiding an adaptive conservation management of the species. Fifty eight modern and 11 archival (dated 1882–1970) otters sampled from Iraq to Malaysian Borneo were genotyped (mtDNA Cytochrome-b, 10 microsatellite DNA loci). Moreover, 16 Aonyx cinereus (Asian
small-clawed otter) and seven Lutra lutra (Eurasian otter) were sequenced to increase information available for phylogenetic reconstructions. As reported in previous studies, we found that L. perspicillata, A. cinereus and A. capensis (African clawless otter) grouped in a clade sister to the genus Lutra, with L. perspicillata and A. cinereus being reciprocally monophyletic. Within L. perspicillata, we uncovered three Evolutionarily Significant Units and proved that L. p. maxwelli is not only endemic to Iraq but also the most recent subspecies. We suggest a revision of the distribution range limits of easternmost L. perspicillata subspecies. We show that smooth-coated otters in Singapore are L. perspicillata x A. cinereus hybrids with A. cinereus mtDNA, the first reported case of hybridization in the wild among otters. A. cinereus in the genus Amblonyx, thus avoiding the paraphyly of the genus Aonyx
Poetics of Momin Khan Mimin: مومن خاں مومؔن کی منفرد شعری بوطیقا
In this paper, a detailed light has been thrown on the unique style and poetic characteristics of the famous ghazal poet Hakeem Momin Khan Momin of the 19th century. Unlike his contemporaries, Momin set a different path for his poetry. He is a poet of beauty and love and through this specific subject, he added to the field of Urdu ghazal and in the era of poets like Zouq and Ghalib, got a distinguished position.

A political study of al-Mawardi with special reference to the concept of legitimacy
The establishment of a legitimate government was a primary concern of the medieval jurists. Consequently they were obliged to deal with the issue of authority and make it a
regular part of their juristic formulation. It was, however, aI-Mãwardi who dealt with this issue more systematically and made it a subject of thorough investigation. In this study we will examine his political ideas with reference to the concept of legitimacy not
only in his contemporary context, but also with regard to the governments of past Islamic history. The study will also examine various responsibilities of the ruler as well
as his concept of political change in a broad context.
The material has been divided into six chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter deals with the meanings of the Caliphate in a broader context, its significance and place in Islamic religious scheme, and various issues related to authority and government as al-Mawardi dealt with them in the light of the Qur'an, the Sunna and the Rashidun period.
The second and the third chapters deal with legitimate accession to authority and various responsibilities of the ruler in order of priority and importance. Stress has been
laid on the ruler's acknowledgement of the same order in their execution.
The fourth chapter deals with the exercise of authority in a legitimate manner. It examines why al-Mawardi recognized the 'Abbasids as legitimate rulers despite criticizing them for their departure from the standard practices of the Räshidun period.
In chapter five the attention is focussed on the legitimacy of the weak 'Abbisid Caliph, the status of the Amir and the rebel provincial dynast and the relations of the latter two with the Caliph. The Sunnites and the Shi'ites of this period had different approaches towards the issue of authority. It will be examined how they still managed to
arrive at a concordat at an official level which lasted for more than a century.
In the sixth chapter, al-Mãwardi's concept of political change has been examined in a broader context.
In the conclusion various research findings are brought together in consequence of studying al-Mãwardi's political concepts in relation to the concept of legitimacy

KONSEP AL-WALA’ WA AL-BARA’ DALAM TAFSIR SALAFI ABAD-19: KAJIAN ATAS KITAB FATH AL-BAYAN FI MAQASID AL-QUR’AN KARYA MUHAMMAD SIDDIQ HASAN KHAN (1832-1889 M)
Revivalis Salafisme merupakan sebuah masa dimana terjadinya gerakan-gerakan pembaharuan yang dimulai pada abad 18 dengan semangat gerakan pemurnian ajaran islam “kembali kepada al-Qur’an dan Sunnah” dan berijtihad dengan pendapat yang paling benar menurut keduanya tanpa harus melakukan sebuah taklid buta terhadap suatu mazhab. Mengingat tekanan kaum Salafi untuk menjaga keyakinan mereka untuk tetap “bersih” dari pengaruh luar, dibutuhkan rasa komitmen yang kuat terhadapnya kelompoknya dan segala hal yang diperjuangkan oleh kelompoknya sendiri. Instrumen ideologis terpenting yang digunakan oleh kaum Salafi untuk mewujudkan hal ini adalah “al-walā’ wa al-barā’”. Sebuah doktrin yang muncul dengan berbagai pendapat kapan pastinya istilah ini mulai digunakan, akan tetapi ajaran ini mulai popular di kalangan Salafi Wahabi dan dijadikan sebagai doktrin bagi mereka dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain, baik sesama Muslim maupun non-Muslim. Konsep yang merujuk kepada fatwa Ibnu Taimiyyah menyampaikan bahwa konsep al-walā’ wa al-bara’ ini harus diusung kembali sebagai upaya untuk menjaga kemurnian agama islam, dan sebagai alat untuk melawan bidʽah. Lahir dari semangat pembaharuan, seorang mufassir dari India Muhammad Ṣiddiq Ḥasan Khan berhasil menulis kitab tafsir sebagai magnum-opus dari semua karya nya yang dinamai kitab Fatḥ al-Bayān Fī Maqasid al-Qur’an. Digadang-gadang sebagai karya yang mengawali sebuah mega proyek tafsir salafi pada masanya, tafsir ini diterbitkan sebagai respon atas wacana dalam dunia tafsir yang kala itu sedang gencar-gencarnya muncul metode tafsir hermeneutik. Untuk membendung wacana hermeneutik pada masa itu, para ulama Salafi memberikan respon dengan memunculkan tafsir-tafsir yang mengusung metode tradisional dengan jargonnya kembali kepada al-Qur’an dan Sunnah. Penyebutan tafsir salafi ini disematkan kepada orang-orang yang mengklaim diri sebagai penganut salaf as-Salih dan menerapkan segala lini kehidupan secara tekstualis berdasarkan al-Qur’an dan Sunnah. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode Library Research dengan pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu sebuah penelitian yang sifatnya deskriptif serta cenderung memakai analisis untuk menjelaskannya dengan cara dikumpulkannya data, selanjutnya di analisis yang mendalam pada isi data tersebut, yang disebut dengan istilah content analisis. Pada penelitian ini penulis mencoba menganalisis penafsiran Muhammad Siddiq Ḥasan Khan terhadap ayat-ayat yang dijadikan landasan al-wala’ wa al-bara’ dengan menggunakan kitab Fatḥ al-Bayan Fi Maqasid al-Qur’an. Hasil analisis terhadap konsep al-wala’ wa al-bara’ melalui penafsiran ini peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa konsep al-wala’ wa al-bara’ menurut Muhammad Siddiq Ḥasan Khān dalam kitabnya adalah Al-Wala’ wa Al-Bara’ xvii sebagai sikap dan batasan untuk ber-muwālah dengan non-muslim; Al-Wala’ wa Al-Bara’ sebagai bentuk perlindungan dan memelihara diri dari kekufuran; dan Al-Wala’ wa Al-Bara’ sebagai sikap bentuk pengingkaran diri terhadap orang-orang yang menyekutukan Allah
