A Comparative Study of the Levels of Total Cholesterol and Protein between Umbilical Cord Blood and their Levels in Maternal Blood
No full textThe study involved the determination of the total cholesterol level and total protein in maternal blood during delivery (90 samples) and comparison with cord blood for new born (90 samples).The study illustrated that there is no correlation between the total cholesterol levels in maternal blood and cord blood (r = 0.185) as well as with the level of total protein ( r = 0.151). The differences are significant (P 0.01) between maternal blood and their new borns which became (6.36 ± 0.73) gm/dl and (7.35 ± 0.86) gm/dl , respectively
Evaluation of vitamin C, uric acid, urea and creatinine levels in the blood ofType 2 diabetic Iraqi females
Get PDFMetabolic disorder of multiple causes characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and disorders of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism… that have higher than normal serum creatinine and urea levels .The present study was carried out in patients with T2DM to evaluate the status of vitamin C, uric acid, urea and creatinine in total 51 (Iraqi females) patients and 31 control subjects matched for age, sex and ethnic background.Uric acid, urea and creatinine were measured by using commercially available kits. Serum vitamin C levels were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In type 2 diabetic patients serum creatinine and ureasignificantly elevated(P<0.001[HS]) and (P=0.021[S]) respectively while SUA and serum vitamin C were non significantly and significantly decreased (P=0.09 [NS]) and (P=0.005[S]) respectively as compared to control group.The normal levels of serum creatinine (0.76±0.15.1mg/dl) , urea (26.1±4.6mg/dl),uric acid (4.3±0.6mg/dl), and vitamin C (1.07±0.27mg/dl) recorded for the non-diabetic females were recorded in the diabetic females (0.94±0.17mg/dl); (28.8±5.3mg/dl) ; (4.1±0.7mg/dl ) and(0.92±0.19 mg/ml)for serum creatinine, urea , uric acid and vitamin Crespectively.In conclusion study shows significant increasing in urea and creatinine in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients when compared to control. Low levels of vitamin C and uric acid in diabetic patients indicating to an increased oxidative stress.Vitamin C level trying to fight against oxidative stress

These Schiff-bases were reacted with one equivalent of Maleic , Succinic and Phthalic anhydride in absolute ethanol to give 7-membered heterocyclic ring system of 2-(2-Hydroxy-phenyl)-4,7-dioxo-4,7-dihydro-[1,3] oxazpine-3-carbothioic acid amide and 2-(4-Dimethylamino-phenyl)-4,7-dioxo-4,7-dihydro-[1,3]oxazepine-3-carbothioiacid amide , 1,3-Bis(2-hydroxy-benzylidene)-Thiourea and 1,3-Bis-(dimethylamino-benzylidene)-Thiourea were reacted with two equivalent of Maleic and Succinic anhydride in same solvent to give 2 (7-membered) heterocyclic ring system of 2-(2-hydroxy-phenyl)-3-[2-(2-hydroxy-phenyl)-4,7-dioxo-[1,3]oxazepine-3-carbothioyl]-2,3-dihydro-[1,3]oxazepine-a,7-dione and 2-(4-Dimethylamino-phenyl)-3-[2-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-4,7-dioxo-[1,3]oxazepine-3- carbothioyl]-2,3-dihydro-[1,3]oxazepine-4,7-dione. The constants of reaction velocity for (Schiff-bases)with Maleic , Succinic and Phthalic anhydride were studied and showed that the reaction wsa first – order one .Some of thermodynamic characteristics were evaluated and showed differences among the prepared compounds . The final products were identified by their melting points, elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and UV-Visible spectra
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
