Concordia Library Accessibility Enhancement Internship: Final Report and Recommendations
Preface: In the winter of 2025, Concordia Library initiated a project under Concordia’s Doctoral Student Internship Program and hired Balam Kenter, a doctoral candidate at Concordia University’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture. They were tasked with developing recommendations to make the Library’s services more accessible to all.
The limited-term internship was short and focused, and as such, the following report is necessarily preliminary and incomplete. It is best understood as a working draft – a provisional, evolving document that is a starting point, not an endpoint, for future accessibility initiatives.
Originally intended as an internal document, any identifying information has been removed, so that we may share this report with other libraries who may find useful insights and/or recommendations in their own contexts.

This is about face --A Study of Internalization and Shame
Is shame an accomplice of external oppressive values or an introspective emotion that reveals one’s true moral character? We track these conflicting intuitions about shame and argue that they point to several understudied social features of shame. We then lay out a more nuanced and inclusive view of shame that accounts for meaningful life-long interactions between self and community. This view emphasizes both personal agency in navigating shame-related experiences and the social challenges to such agency, namely the social structures and values that breed shame for some people while exempting others. We argue that individuals demonstrate their agency in managing the emotion of shame not just through their private attitudes, by accepting, negotiating, or rejecting specific values, but also through social action, by identifying with some communities and distancing themselves from others. In pointing out that shame is a double-edged sword—harmful in ways not discussed before, yet also morally potent by propelling individual agency—we hope to add much-needed complexity to the discussion of shame

Autor, exotopía y alteridad en la construcción de identidad nacional desde el cine indigenista en México: Chilam Balam (1955) de Íñigo de Martino
The way in which indigenous cinema collaborated in the construction of national identity based on Mexican nationalism to the detriment of image and concept of the indigenous in our country from the dialogism proposed by Bajtín (author, exotopy and alterity) is analyzed. To model this analysis, the film Chilam Balam (1955) by Íñigo de Martino is approached. Once the armed phase of the Mexican Revolution was over, the construction of a national identity was undertaken to generate cohesion around the national project. Activities such as education, art and the media were preponderant in disseminating national discourses to all levels of Mexican society.
