Understanding Situational Awareness in Psychiatric Hospitals
No full textLeaders of high-risk healthcare environments encounter a variety of factors that can adversely affect the culture of safety within their organizations. One essential element of safety involves situational awareness of patient conditions and the surrounding environment. In this Dissertation in Practice, a case study was conducted to evaluate how the human and organizational factors of fatigue, distraction, complacency, training, and teamwork affect the situational awareness of direct care staff in monitoring psychiatric patients. In a private psychiatric hospital, the researcher employed 14 closed and open ended questions in learning how these human and organizational factors affected situational awareness. Eight themes emerged from the analysis of the qualitative data including the importance of experiential learning, teamwork and trust, causes of complacency, use of body language in assessing risk, common distractions, safety as a motivator, the natural ability of awareness, and fatigue caused by mentally taxing activities and physical work. The aim of the study resulted in a training and monitoring program for healthcare staff and leaders. Implications of this study include an enhanced understanding of the safety risks related to situational awareness that any type of healthcare setting can utilize and the need for leaders to be situationally aware in order to provide prompt training and support in a transformative manner.|Keywords: situational awareness, complacency, fatigue, distraction, teamwork, trainingProQuest Traditional Publishing Optio

Samples were air dried at ambient temperature (~21 degrees C), and their processing in preparation for microscopy was based on the method of Cortese and Prebble (2015). Cover slips were adhered to the slides using Canada Balsam and slides were observed using Olympus BH-2 inverted light microscope at up to 400x magnification. Slides were first counted to determine absolute radiolarian abundance (ARA) and, for samples where ARA was high enough, more than 400 individuals were identified per sample to species/subspecies or genus level. Taxonomic nomenclature used while preparing the dataset was per Lazarus et al. (2015) with additional clarification sought from the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS Editorial Board, 2018) and radiolaria.org (radiolaria.org, 2018). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

The majority of these stations move downwards throughout the winter, a motion which is in phase with regional snowfall and has been attributed to hydrological loading (Fu et. al., 2012). The range of phases across the state, however, spans half the year and does not correlate with snow patterns. Six stations show discontinuous seasonal variations on the order of 1-10cm. After examining the geography and windspeed at these sites, we conclude that at least three of them will accumulate rime ice during the winter, and that this ice can cause apparent upwards motions of the stations. This hypothesis is supported by seasonal variations in the stations' multipath values, which indicate increased signal scattering during the winter.by Kelly Anne Kochanski.S.B
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textHere is a large (8¾" x 10⅞"), heavy 248-page book that I found where I might have least expected, in a small Parisian bookshop I passed almost every day on the way to the Seine. The surprise is that I had not found it at Gibert Jeune, my normal source for recent French fable books. The book features a cameo on its cover of the grasshopper singing and resting against a tree. The book begins with a T of C and then an unusual element, a "Table Thématique," listing first kinds of animals and then kinds of people. The colored illustrations fill the page without borders, and prose fables with morals are superimposed on them. Many fables have two images, or even three like "The Eagle and Fox" (37-39) and MSA (129-31). One might be surprised by stories like that on 21, where a famished wolf lets a child go for telling three things, the third of which is "Death to Wolves!" Someone has, I believe, brought the fables together so that there is continuity, as from one mosquito story to another (44-45) or in the long sequence of fox stories from 51 through 71. The designs are simple but intelligent. The menacing wolf looks down from the height of a waterfall on the puzzled lamb (8-9). The sad story of the frog and mouse is pictured well by showing the tie-up between two legs (50). There is a touch of the joy reminiscent of the Untermeyers' approach in a two-page spread like "The Ass Carrying a Statue" (96-97) or "The Hares and the Frogs" (188-89). One last favorite is the book's last fable: TB is a delight spread across two pages (246-47). Every fable gets at least one illustration.
