No full textThis paper proposes an improved version of 3D pure proportional navigation (PPN) against a manoeuvring
target. The main research hypothesis is that the performance of 3D PPN can be improved by properly selecting the
direction of the guidance command as there exists an infinite number of potential directions complying with the
PPN concept in 3D space. Analysis on the relative motion confirms the validity of the hypothesis and leads to the
development of a new guidance algorithm. Unlike traditional 3D PPN, the guidance algorithm developed adapts the
direction, but maintains the magnitude of the commanded acceleration proportional to only the line-of-sight (LOS)
rate. The validity and performance of the proposed guidance algorithm are investigated through theoretical analysis
and numerical simulations

No full textThe tractate Keritot of the Babylonian Talmud belongs to the Order of Qodashim in the Mishnah. It discusses the Temple and its rituals, especially sacrifices, but deals mostly with laws of incest, sexual transgressions, childbirth, and miscarriages. In this commentary, Federico Dal Bo provides a historical, philological and philosophical investigation on these gender issues. He discusses almost the entire tractate, referring to many other sources, Jewish (the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Sifra, and other rabbinic texts) as well as non-Jewish (Akkadian, Hittite, and Ugaritic). The author also provides accurate philological observations both on the Mishnah and the Gemara. Finally, he addresses gender issues by combining a reductionistic approach to Talmudic study (the so called "Brisker method") with philosophical deconstruction. Dal Bo shows that in nearly the entire tractate Keritot the rabbis discuss human sexuality in a tendentious and restrictive way, claiming that heterosexuality is the only proper sexual contact and progressively stigmatizing any other kind of sexual behavior
Estimating the immediate impact of monetary policy shocks on the exchange rate and other asset prices in Hungary
No full textThe paper estimates the immediate impact of Hungarian monetary policy on three classes of asset prices: the exchange rate of the forint vis-à-vis the euro, spot and forward government bond yields and the index of the Budapest Stock Exchange. The endogeneity problem is treated with the method of identification through heteroskedasticity as described by Rigobon and Sack (2004). The results suggest a significant impact on the exchange rate in one day i.e. an increase in the policy rate leads to an appreciation of the domestic currency, which is in line with the classic intuition. The effect increases markedly when the estimation is carried out with a two-day window suggesting the inefficiency of markets in incorporating monetary policy decisions in asset prices in a short period of time. Monetary policy affects spot yields positively, but the effect gradually dies out as the horizon gets longer. This can be explained with the impact on forward yields, as the results suggest a positive impact on short-term and a negative impact on long-term forward yields meaning that a surprise change in the policy rate leads to a rotation of the forward curve. No full textHere is another Donohue surprise-a book, like Jack and Jill (1895?) that contains only the title-story and fables. This book has the same cover border, the same back cover, and the same Mother Goose endpapers as that book. Its selection of fables surprises me because it seems to complement carefully the selection of fables there. Though they seem to draw on the same sources (see my comments there), there are no repeaters here. After Little Bo-Peep there are four fables, three of which (The Larks and the Farmer, FS, and BW) identify their texts as by Clara Doty Bates. The fourth, TH, has illustrations by Childe Hassam. The first fable is curious for presenting first a full-page illustration by one hand, titled The Larks and the Farmers. Then come five pages with the title The Larks and the Farmer and illustrations by a different hand. Other than Bates and Hassam, I cannot identify the author and artists. There is some material missing at the end, including the finish of BW and one of the endpapers. This book has no spine left. All its pages are separated.
