    Evolution of the movements of Belgian workers who live near the frontier from 1972 to 1982. An attempt to use the yearly statistics of the National Institute for Health and disablement insurance (INAMI). Abstract : The author offers a summary of the recent evolution (1972-1982) of the movements of the Belgian workers who live near the border in perusing the yearly I. N. A. M.I. statistics. Beyond the preliminary quantitative study of the movements of the active population at the various frontiers of the Belgian Kingdom, R.S. wants to show the demographic profile of this very particular population. A study based on the scale of the Belgian « arrondissement » well localizes the frontier movements.L'auteur propose un bilan de l'évolution récente (1972-1982) des flux de travailleurs frontaliers en Belgique dépouillant les statistiques annuelles de l' INAMI. Au-delà de l'approche quantitative préalable des navettes de population active aux différentes frontières du royaume, R. SEVRIN veut présenter le profil démographique de cette population très particulière.     We propose gauge-Higgs unification in fuzzy extra dimensions as a possible solution to the Higgs naturalness problem. In our approach, the fuzzy extra dimensions are created spontaneously as a vacuum solution of certain four-dimensional gauge theory. As an example, we construct a model which has a fuzzy torus as its vacuum. The Higgs field in our model is associated with the Wilson loop wrapped on the fuzzy torus. We show that the quadratic divergence in the mass of the Higgs field in the one-loop effective potential is absent. We then argue based on symmetries that the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass is suppressed including all loop contributions. We also consider a realization on the worldvolume theory of D3-branes probing C-3/(Z(N) x Z(N)) orbifold with discrete torsion

    An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the τ lepton

    We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the τ lepton (dτ) using an 833 fb−1 data sample collected near the Υ(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of dτ as Re(dτ) = (−0.62 ± 0.63) × 10−17ecm and Im(dτ) = (−0.40 ± 0.32) × 10−17ecm, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.     Cooking with robots: designing a household system working in open environments

    We propose a cooking system that operates in an open environment. The system cooks a meal by pouring various ingredients into a boiling pot on an induction heating cooker and adjusts the heating strength according to the user’s instructions. We then describe how the system incorporates robotic- and human-specific elements in a shared workspace so as to achieve a cooperative rudimentary cooking capability. First, we use small mobile robots instead of built-in arms to save space, improve flexibility and increase safety. Second, we use detachable visual markers to allow the user to easily configure the real-world environment. Third, we provide a graphical user interface to display detailed cooking instructions to the user. We hope insights obtained in this experiment will be useful for the design of other household systems in the future. Author Keywords Cooking procedure, cooking interface, cooking with robots
