Social sustainable supply chains in the food industry: a perspective of an emerging economy
The purpose of this study is to identify a list of important social sustainable supply chain indicators and determine the cause and effect group from the food sector of an emerging economy of Pakistan. The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) based methodology is introduced to aid the evaluation of these indicators. The results show that the “balance between work and life” is the topmost influential and cause indicator among the cause group indicators. Similarly, a “safe and healthy working environment” is the topmost effect indicator among the effect group indicators. These results will inform managers and policy makers in the food sector, especially from the emerging economies such as Pakistan to formulate strategies that could aid in advancing social sustainability and transitioning towards a truly sustainable supply chai
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Resilience and cleaner production in industry 4.0: role of supply chain mapping and visibility
Industry 4.0 makes the business processes more autonomous, automated, and intelligent. Supply chain mapping can be a steppingstone to adopt the developments of Industry 4.0. Despite its profound significance in Industry 4.0 driven supply chain management, it has been hardly discussed in the research literature. Against this backdrop, the objective of this study is to test the impact of supply chain mapping on a firm's supply chain visibility and resilience. Data were collected from 154 Electrical & Electronics sector Malaysian firms through a close-ended questionnaire. The study employed structural equation modeling to analyze the hypothesized relationships. A significant momentous effect of supply chain mapping was found on the supply chain visibility and supply chain resilience. Further, the study also found a significant mediating role of supply chain visibility in the association between SC mapping and supply chain resilience. The findings of the study strongly suggest firms adopt a supply chain mapping strategy to improve supply chain visibility and supply chain resilience. Findings also suggest maintaining closer ties with key suppliers in order to increase SC visibility
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Evaluating the Clinical and Financial Impact of Multi-Gene Panel Testing
BACKGROUND: Medical management of advanced cancers is increasingly guided by predictive biomarkers. Tumor mutation testing using commercial assays examining select gene panels is now incorporated in the standard work-up of advanced cancers. With some exceptions, existing and emerging biomarkers remain inadequate clinical tools for many patients, and anecdotal evidence and small phase trials have driven much of the enthusiasm for biomarker-driven treatments. The purpose of this study is to assess predictive clinical factors of successful gene mutation testing and to determine whether tumor mutation testing directly impacts clinical practice.
METHODS: All submitted test requests from UT Southwestern faculty to Foundation One were abstracted for test success and mutation results. Patients were cross-referenced in the EPIC electronic health record information. To evaluate practice changes and patient outcomes after one-year of follow-up, we collected data from the first 100 patients that underwent next generation sequencing testing (excluding PD-L1 testing) in 2020.
RESULTS: Among the 100 patients studied, the typical patient was close to older age (mean age 58.7 years), female (56%), Caucasian (52%), insured (71%), and with stage 3 or 4 cancer (79%). The most common tumor types were breast (20%), colorectal (18%), and myelodysplastic syndrome (9%). 20% of patients (20/100) were found to have an actionable mutation and 2 patients were enrolled in clinical trials due to Foundation Medicine testing. Among the 20 patients with an actionable mutation, 5 of them (25%) had a change in therapy. All of these patients responded to the change in therapy with stable disease, and while three of them started the therapy within a month of the Foundation testing resulting, the other two waited 5 and 11 months. The fifth patient was actually found to not have disease but was placed on a maintenance therapy as a result of the testing.
CONCLUSIONS: While precision medicine offers the promise of better understanding genomic drivers of disease, it is unclear if the benefits of such an approach outweigh the risk on a population level and if resulting changes in patient care are superior as compared investigator-chosen therapies. Monitoring Flexural Fatigue Life of Asphalt Concrete by Piezoelectric Sensors: Strategy for fatigue life prediction and damage detection based on load history on any asphalt matrix
This dissertation endeavors to introduce a novel supervised Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methodology for the detection of damage and the prediction of fatigue life in asphalt concrete materials. Grounded in the principles of S-N (strain-number of cycles until failure) curves, this research addresses the intricate task of proficiently monitoring asphalt pavements through the utilization of sensor data, thus optimizing maintenance schedules. The successful implementation of this methodology holds the promise of significant cost savings, primarily by facilitating timely inspections and judicious resource allocation. The comprehensive approach encompasses an extensive literature review, encompassing topics such as asphalt properties, fatigue life, and damage prediction models. It also involves the strategic deployment of piezoelectric sensors, with a specific emphasis on Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT), as well as four-point bending (4PB) testing. We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
