Highly-functionalised difluorinated (hydroxymethyl)conduritol analogues via the Diels-Alder reactions of a difluorinated dienophile
A difluorodienophile, synthesised using a Stille coupling reaction underwent tin(IV)-catalysed cycloaddition with three furans to afford oxa[2.2.1]bicycloheptenes in good yield. Reduction of ester and carbamate carbonyl groups and diol protection as the acetonide set the stage for palladium-catalysed hydrostannylation in two cases. Treatment of the stannanes with methyllithium triggered ring-opening to afford highly-functionalised difluorinated cyclohexenols which could be deprotected to afford (hydroxymethyl)conduritol analogues

Paratypes, 7 females, Mt. Kenya, Chogoria gate, altitude 2985 m, July 16, 2004 (El-Banhawy).</p> <p> <b>Female:</b> Dorsal shield 335 long, 180 wide, reticulated, with seven pairs of pores. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1 30, j3 28, j4 15, j5 16, j6 18, J2 23, J5 9, z2 17, z3 23, z4 25, z5 16, z6 14, Z4 30, Z5 50, s4 23, s6 25, S2 29, S4 32, S5 26, r3 25, R1 23, JV5 40. Setae Z 5, JV5 knobbed, Z5, Z4 serrated, remaining setae smooth. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield, distances between St I-St III 62, St II-St II 55, St III of shield, St IV on platelets. Genital shield 67 wide. Ventri-anal shield 122 long, 80 wide, with a pair of round pre-anal pores and four pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, JV3, ZV2). Two pairs of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae, surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with two teeth, movable digit with one tooth. Spermatheca calyx cup shaped, 12 long, 4 wide near atrium, 7 near vesicle, atrium small, major duct broad. Macrosetae knobbed or blunt, Sge IV 18, Sti IV 20, St IV 40. Chaetotaxy: genu II 2, 2 / 0, 2/0, 1, genu III 1, 2 /1, 2/0, 1.</p> <p> <b>Remarks.</b> This species is similar to <i>K</i>. <i>eddiei</i> (Ueckermann & Loots). Mono- and dimeric complexes of an asymmetric heterotopic P,CNHC,pyr ligand
An asymmetric heterotopic ligand (S-NMeCP) containing a central bicyclic, expanded-ring NHC with one pyridyl and one phosphine exo-substituent has been synthesised and its coordination chemistry with selected late transition metals investigated. The amidinium precursor [S-NMeCHP]PF6 shows variable coordination modes with Ag(I), Cu(I) and Au(I) depending on the L : M ratio. The reaction of two mols of [S-NMeCHP]PF6 with [Cu(MeCN)4]BF4, AgBF4 or Au(THT)Cl gives the bis-ligand complexes [Cu(?-P-NMeCHP)2(CH3CN)2]BF4·(PF6)2, 1, and [M(?-P-NMeCHP)2]X·(PF6)2 (3: M = Ag, X = BF4; 6: M = Au, X = Cl) respectively. The 1 : 1 reaction of [S-NMeCHP]PF6 with AgOTf gave the head-to-tail dimer H,T-[Ag2(?-N,P-NMeCHP)2(?-OTf)2](PF6)2, 2, whereas the analogous reaction with Au(THT)Cl gave monomeric [Au(?-P-NMeCHP)Cl]PF6, 5. Complex 2 was converted to H,T-[Ag2(?-C,P-NMeCP)2](PF6)2, 4, upon addition of base, while 6 gave [Au(?-C-NMeCP)2]Cl, 8, when treated likewise. Reaction of [S-NMeCHP]PF6 with Ni(1,5-COD)2 gave the oxidative addition/insertion product [Ni(?3-N,C,P-NMeCP)(?3-C8H13)]PF6, 9, which converted to [Ni(?3-N,C,P-NMeCP)Cl]PF6, 10, upon exposure of a CHCl3 solution to air. Complex 10 showed conformational isomerism that was also present in [Rh(?3-N,C,P-NMeCP)(CO)]PF6, 14, prepared from the precursor complex [Rh(?-P-NMeCHP)(acac)(CO)]PF6, 13, upon heating in C6H5Cl. [Pt(?3-N,C,P-NMeCP)(Cl)]PF6, 12, derived from trans-[Pt(?-P-NMeCHP)2(Cl)2](PF6)2, 11, was isolated as a single conformer
Sequence of a Coxiella endosymbiont of the tick Amblyomma nuttalli suggests a pattern of convergent genome reduction in the Coxiella genus.
Ticks require bacterial symbionts for the provision of necessary compounds that are absent in their hematophagous diet. Such symbionts are frequently vertically transmitted and, most commonly, belong to the Coxiella genus, which also includes the human pathogen Coxiella burnetii. This genus can be divided in four main clades, presenting partial but incomplete co-cladogenesis with the tick hosts. Here we report the genome sequence of a novel Coxiella, endosymbiont of the African tick Amblyomma nuttalli, and the ensuing comparative analyses. Its size (~1 Mb) is intermediate between symbionts of Rhipicephalus species and other Amblyomma species. Phylogenetic analyses show that the novel sequence is the first genome of the B clade, the only one for which no genomes were previously available. Accordingly, it allows to draw an enhanced scenario of the evolution of the genus, one of parallel genome reduction of different endosymbiont lineages, which are now at different stages of reduction from a more versatile ancestor. Gene content comparison allows to infer that the ancestor could be reminiscent of Coxiella burnetii. Interestingly, the convergent loss of mismatch repair could have been a major driver of such reductive evolution. Predicted metabolic profiles are rather homogenous among Coxiella endosymbionts, in particular vitamin biosynthesis, consistently with a host-supportive role. Concurrently, similarities among Coxiella endosymbionts according to host genus and despite phylogenetic unrelatedness hint at possible host-dependent effects
