Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

The dominant and most important section of a company are the human resources. The efficiency, quality and competitiveness of organizations are largely due to human resources. Critical and decisive factor for the efficiency, development and improvement of employees is the comparison and assessment of their job performance to predetermined strategic objectives of the administration. The development and implementation of appropriate evaluation systems contribute toward progress and is a dynamic investment prospective. The intention of this study was to highlight the importance of performance evaluations, the potential usefulness as tool increasing employee motivation and its effects on organizational effectiveness. The primary aim was the construction and development of a multidimensional assessment model which will allow the organization management to conduct valid and reliable assessments of physical education graduates employees and their actions. Furthermore, the present study examines the variables affecting the job performance and investigate the possible differences between physical education graduates employees who work in private gyms and on municipal sports organizations. The researcher structured six questionnaires assessing personality dimensions, professional behavior, leadership, cognitive status, general and specific job performance. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of rating scales attributed sufficient validity and reliability. The questionnaires are compact, valid and reliable structures, capable and consistent to contribute to performance management and human resources management. The questionnaires were given to owners of private gyms and to chairmen/managers of municipal sports organizations, who evaluated the job performance of four hundred eighty one (N=481) Physical Education graduates. For statistical data analysis descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test for independent groups and multiple regression analysis were used. The results of multiple regression analysis suggested that:(a) The design and an organization of sports programs seem to be predicted by factors of personality (such as agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness to new experiences), but also from the knowledge base, the orientation to lifelong learning and the administrative skills of graduate physical education, (b) Positive predictors of the quality of teaching sports programs seem to be the openness, the agreeableness, communication, background knowledge and management skills of the employee trainer, (c) To provision of comprehensive and quality services to its customers is related to agreeableness, emotional stability, professionalism, orientation to lifelong learning, vision and management skills of the graduate of physical education, (d) Positive predictors of management of critical incidents and resources shown are the background knowledge and management skills of the stem, (e) The job performance of a graduate of physical education seems to be provided for conscientiousness, interpersonal relations, professionalism, vision and management skills of the employee.Multivariate analysis of variance was supported by the following:(a) The job performance related and influenced by gender, age, years of graduation from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, work experience and successful tests in educational competitions ASEP (Supreme Council personnel selection), (b) The professional behavior of employees physical education graduates is associated and influenced by age and successful participation in ASEP exam teachers, (c) The leadership skills of employees are related to the age, years of graduation from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and general work experience, (d) The personality of employees physical education graduates is related and influenced by age, year of graduation from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, years of job in the company and participation in educational ASEP exam, (e) The cognitive status of employees physical education graduates is influenced by gender, age, years of graduation from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, work experience and successful tests in educational competitions ASEP.The analysis of independent groups showed that employees in private gyms have higher levels of extraversion, emotional stability and openness to new experiences and develop better interpersonal relations against their colleagues at the Municipal Athletic Organization. Moreover, executives of private gyms show stronger orientation to lifelong learning, creating vision and intellectual stimulation. Finally, it seems to take precedence against their colleagues in the municipal sports organizations in both the quantity and quality of job performance and specific factors as the design and an organization of sports programs, in teaching and in providing comprehensive quality services to their customers. It is concluded that the proposed assessment model of job performance is a valid and reliable multi-dimensional tool that could be used by the business and used in the administration and human resources management in gyms and sports organizations.Το πολυτιμότερο και πλέον σημαντικό κεφάλαιο μιας επιχείρησης είναι το ανθρώπινο δυναμικό.

Teachers have been identified as a high-risk group for developing burnout syndrome, particularly those working with SEND pupils, as the responsibilities and emotional demands of the job are particularly increased. The study explored the possible association between teachers' attitudes, perceptions and concerns about the inclusion of SEND pupils and perceived levels of burnout and job satisfaction. In addition, the study examined whether there were factors that predicted teachers' burnout and job satisfaction. The sample of the present study consisted of 163 teachers and for the purposes of the study (a) the Sentiments, Attitudes, and Concerns about Inclusive Education Scale Revised (SACIE-R), (b) the Brayfield-Rothe General Index of Job Satisfaction and (c) the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Educators Survey (MBI-ES) were used. The results revealed that Greek teachers generally maintain a positive attitude towards the inclusion of SEND students. The highest levels of positive attitudes and lowest levels of concern were found in teachers with specialized studies in Special Education. A significant positive correlation was observed between positive attitudes towards inclusion and job satisfaction, suggesting that teachers who view inclusion in a positive way tend to be more satisfied with their jobs. In addition, teachers who exhibit more worries and negative attitudes tend to experience higher levels of emotional exhaustion, which may lead to burnout. Linear regression analysis identified negative emotions and concerns towards inclusion as significant predictors of emotional exhaustion. Further linear regression analysis identified positive emotions and positive attitudes towards inclusion as significant predictors of personal achievement. Finally, inclusion attitudes appeared to be a significant predictor of depersonalization.  Article visualizations

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

INVESTIGATION OF CONSTRAINS TOWARD PARTICIPATION IN SPORTS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The purpose of the study is to investigate the factors that deter, inhibit and/or prevent the participation of people with disabilities in athletic activities, and also the investigation of possible differentiation of reasons that inhibit exercise in people with disabilities based on gender, age, educational level, congenital or acquired disability, the participation or not in athletic activities and the frequency of participation. For the needs of this study, the “Barrier to Physical Activity Questionnaire for People with Mobility Impairments – BPAQ-MI” (Vasudevan, Rimmer, & Kviz, 2015) was used. The results showed that the main intrapersonal inhibitors are the concerns for health and the attitudes regarding physical activity. Interpersonal factors that inhibit are physical inertia, the lack of encouragement, and the non-adoption of an active lifestyle in the familial and friendly environment. The lack of accessible infrastructures and programs, the lack of appropriate equipment for adapted exercise, the lack of marketing for people with disabilities, the lack of coverage of the cost of participation from health insurance, and the high cost of participation in athletic programs constitute basic organizational barriers. The lack of accessibility of the general environment, the means of transport to the place of exercise, and safety constitute social barriers. Statistically important differences are observed between the two genders, different age groups, different levels of education, and different frequency of participation in athletic activities. The understanding of the inhibitors and obstacles, will contribute to the obviation of the reasons of distance, to the reinforcement of participation in athletic programs and recreational movement. The designers of athletic policy, the managers of athletic and recreational centers ought to improve the infrastructure, the services, according to the needs of people with disabilities, and to eliminate possible obstacles that bar participation.  Article visualizations

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
