Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textGiriş ve Amaç: Hipertansiyon, tüm dünyada önemli bir sağlık sorunu olup erişkin dönemde kronik böbrek hastalığı, kardiovasküler hastalık ve serebrovasküler hastalıklara sebep olabilmektedir. Son yıllarda erişkin dönemde önemli morbidite ve mortalite nedeni olan hipertansiyonun çocukluk çağında başladığı bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, primer hipertansiyon tanısı ile takip edilen çocuk hastaların yaşam kalitesini ve yaşam kalitesini etkileyen faktörleri çocuklar için yaşam kalitesi ölçeği kullanarak değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Haziran-Aralık 2021 tarihinde Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Çocuk Nefroloji polikliniğinde tanı konulan ve primer hipertansiyon tanısı ile izlenen 22 çocuk hasta grubunu; Genel Pediatri polikliniğine başvuran 31 sağlıklı gönüllü ve ebeveynleri de kontrol grubunu oluşturmuştur. Çocukluk çağında sağlıkla ilgili yaşam kalitesini ölçmek için, Varni ve arkadaşları tarafından 1999 yılında pediatrik yaşam kalitesi ölçeği PedsQL 4.0 düzenlenmiştir. Bu ölçek Türkçe olarak “Çocuklar için Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği(ÇİYKÖ) ” adıyla çevrilen her yaşa özgü ayrı formları olan, kolayca uygulanan bir yaşam kalitesi ölçeğidir. Çalışmamızda olgular ve ebeveynleri ÇİYKÖ ile değerlendirilmiştir. İstatistiksel analizler, IBM® SPSS® 26 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, ABD) yazılımı ile yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya toplam 53 olgu ve ebeveyni katılmıştır. Bu katılımcıların 22 (%41,5)’si hasta ve 31 (%58,5)’i ise sağlıklı olgulardan oluşmaktadır. Tüm alt kategorilerde ve ölçek toplam puanında hasta grubun puanları, kontrol grubuna göre daha düşük saptanmıştır. Kontrol ve hasta grubundaki olguların karşılaştırılmasında en yüksek puan farkı fiziksel sağlık toplam puanında elde edilmiş olup 15,2 puan fark saptanmıştır (p:0,0006). Sonuç: Hipertansiyon tanılı olgularda yaşam kalitesinin değerlendirilmesinin önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir ancak daha fazla katılımcının olduğu çalışmalar ile değerlendirilmesi gerekmektedir.Introduction and Aim: Hypertension remains as an important health problem worldwide which can cause chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in adulthood. In recent years, it is found out that hypertension, which is an important morbidity and mortality cause in adulthood, starts in the childhood period. The aim of this study is to evaluate the life quality of pediatric patients followed up with the diagnosis of hypertension and the factors affecting it by utilizing the quality-of-life scale for children (QoL-C).
Materials and Method: The patient group consists of the 22 children diagnosed and followed up with primary hypertension in the Pediatric Nephrology Unit of Ege University Medical Faculty between June and December in 2021, while the control group was 31 healthy and voluntary children and their parents consulting the General Pediatric Clinic. To evaluate the life quality related with health in childhood, Varni et al. suggested pediatric quality of life (PedsQL) measurement model 4.0 in 1999. This model translates into Turkish as “Çocuklar için Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği (ÇİYKÖ) and consists of forms appropriate to different age groups offering an easily adopted life quality scale. In this study, the cases and their parents are evaluated with ÇİYKÖ. For statistical analysis, IBM® SPSS® 26 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, ABD) programs are utilized.
Results: 53 cases and their parents participated in the study. 22 of them (41.5%) were patients while 31 of them (58.5%) were healthy cases. In all subgroups and in the total score of the scale, the score of patients were lower compared to the control group. The highest point difference in the comparison of patient and control groups was detected in the total score of physical health with a difference of 15.2 points (p:0.0006).
Conclusion: The evaluation of life quality in the cases with the diagnosis of hypertension is claimed to be important, however, it is required to be investigated in studies with higher number of participants
