The Legislative Journals are a detailed description of the activities of the Kansas Legislature during legislative sessions, special sessions and budget sessions. This collection includes volumes for regular, special and budget sessions. Regular sessions were held annually, 1861-1877, Biennially, 1879-1953 and annually, 1955-present. The Journals were published as separate volumes for both House and Senate from 1861-1941 and bound together in one volume from 1943-1985. In 1986 the Senate and House Journals were once again published in separate volumes which has continued to this day. Within this collection we have separated out House and Senate Journals for all regular sessions including 1943-1985. Special and budget session Journals are combined with both Senate and House activities

"Kansas Legislators are called upon to make decisions on many issues that come before the Legislature. In addition, members of the Legislature are frequently asked by constituent groups to discuss public policy issues in a community forum in their districts. The purpose of the Kansas Legislator Briefing Book is to assist members in making informed policy decisions and to provide information in a condensed form that is usable for discussions with constituents-- whether in their offices in Topeka or in their districts."A-1.
