It was probably sent to Mitzi while she was incarcerated at the Poston camp in Arizona. An item from: Mitzi Naohara scrapbook (csudh_nao_0400), page 19.The George and Mitzi Naohara Papers consists of photo albums and scrapbooks compiled by George and Mitzi Naohara, and other documents pertaining to the Naohara and Masukawa family. Contained are photographs, correspondence, documents, and memorabilia depicting their experiences during World War II. George Nobuo Naohara is a Kibei Nisei, and his experiences include his farm labor in Idaho and Utah, incarceration in the Manzanar, Jerome, and Tule Lake camps, and the U.S. Army language school training and Korean War. He also engaged in Buddhist activities for his whole life and there are moving images depicting Gardena Buddhist Church activities after the war. Mitzi Masukawa Naohara was a preschool teacher at the Poston camp, Arizona, and also a member of a young Nisei women's club, "Sigma Debs.” Her collected materials depict her life as a teacher and social events in the Poston camp during the war

Performance evaluation of algorithms for Black-Derman-Toy lattice
No full textWithin the framework of sensitivity of the optimal value of the portfolio management problem described in Dupaeová and Bertocchi (1996), Dupacová and Bertocchi (1997) with respect to lattice calibration, we compare Bjerksund and Stensland approximation algorithm, Kang Pan-Zenios algorithm and a modified Kang Pan-Zenios algorithm to generate short-rate interest rates tree according to Black-Derman-Toy model. Numerical testing of the behaviour of the three algorithms are given. The necessary inputs for Black-Derman-Toy model are yield curve and log-yield volatilities: we provide an evidence on the relatively large sensitivity of the parameters of the fitted lattice on the chosen volatility curve. The reported numerical experience is based on data from the Italian bond market

Folk Toy As the Embodiment of the National Ideal
No full textThe author of this article tries to find the ideals that are original for Russian people, to trace their evolution and existence through the prism of such a phenomenon as a folk toy that includes a conglomerate of meanings. The article considers the folk toy as a reflection and expression of the national ideal. The article analyzes a connection of cultural traditions and images of toys, the way a folk toy reproduces emotions, character and mental features of an ethnos. The author considers the generation aspect of national ideal`s reflection through the national toy. The original senses of a traditional toy are transformed quite often in modern sociocultural space, and its material embodiment is replaced by simulacras or parodies. Therefore, it is necessary to turn to its genetic roots to understand the meaningful phenomenon.</jats:p

No full text[[abstract]]An immense variety of toy figures are seen in our daily life. Some are best gifts for children, some are popular objects for collectors. While few of us pay much attention to them, even fewer combine them with any meaningful concept.
However, is it true that toy figures are nothing but ornaments?
A created toy figure may have its own connotation, and creation is also a way for a designer to express his feeling. The starting point of a toy figure's design is always "human being", which means the idea emanates from "people".
Many different kinds of toy figures come in and out of styles. What makes them popular is the role they create, their style and originality. The main point of design is supposed to be about the performance and the practice of creation, and the whole creation process and the uniqueness of toy figures' design should match the idea of "play".
The creation process: Getting the idea of Playing baseball -> getting toy figures -> enjoying designing the baseball figures -> enjoying play the work...the process itself is all that matters to designers.
This Study attempts to analyse toy figure market development of today by exploring the traditional way of design and development, then draws up the design strategy and applies the result to toy figures' role designing.
The creation combines the idea of " Chinese zodiac ", "baseball" and "circle", trying to create a whole bunch of toy figures with folk style.
The major points for research include:
1. The interaction between toy figures' image and human appearance.
2. The importance of toy figures' role designing.
3. The application of the idea "circle" in role designing.
4. The folk style establishment.
Bayesian decision theory: A simple toy problem
No full textWe give here a comparison of the expected outcome theory, the expected utility theory, and the Bayesian decision theory, by way of a simple numerical toy problem in which we look at the investment willingness to avert a high impact low probability event. It will be found that for this toy problem the modeled investment willingness under the Bayesian decision theory is minimally three times higher compared to the investment willingness under either the expected outcome or the expected utility theories, where it is noted that the estimates of the latter two theories seem to be unrealistically low.</p
