Changes in the Czech Wage Structure: Does Immigration Matter?
No full textUsing the Albrecht et al. (2003) version of the Machado and Mata (2005) decomposition technique along the wage distribution, we find that immigrant workers do not affect changes in the Czech wage structure between 2002 and 2006 despite their substantial inflows. Instead, changes in the wage structure are explained solely by increasing returns of native workers, while changes in the observed characteristics of native workers, particularly a rising level of education, are responsible for increasing wage dispersion. The sizeable inflows of foreign workers in the sample years are concentrated among young workers with primary and tertiary education and are primarily due to rising labour demand. The negative immigrant-native wage gaps are persistent along the wage distribution and are explained mainly by differences in observed characteristics. We provide evidence on increasing returns to education of native workers along the wage distribution. The returns are higher in 2006 than in 2002, in line with the evidence in the previous literature.Immigration, matched employer-employee data, quantile regression, wage gap decomposition, wage structure.
Miloš Zeman Prime Minister and the President: continuity or change in opinion?
No full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyse opinions of Milos Zeman as the prime minister and as the president in similar political situations in three circuits, while selected issues closely touched the offices of the Prime Minister, or the President. Comparing these standpoints this paper concludes that Milos Zeman is not very consistent in his opinions. It seems that a change of his views is motivated by the current political profit and maximizing influence of the held constitutional post. Theoretical part of this paper characterizes the political system of the Czech Republic with emphasis on the necessary cooperation of concerned branches of state power. This allows readers the insight and the inclusion of individual standpoints of Milos Zeman to the realities of the practical functioning of the system. On this theoretical basis clearly stands out Milos Zeman's motivation to change viewpoint or stay in the former one

Dále práce obsahuje soupis Zemanovy tvorby vydané na našem území a knih, které měly být vydány, ale kvůli neshodám s nakladatelstvím se tak nestalo. Některá Zemanova díla jsou blíže charakterizována a je upozorněno na autobiografické prvky. At first his life is described, which was not an easy task because the writer lives abroad. There is mentioned author's biggest passion, the theme of survival in wild nature within the work. Further, the work contains the list of Zeman's writings which were published in our country and books, that were supposed to be published but due to disagreements with the publisher they weren't. Some of Zeman's writings are described closer and the autobiographical elements are pointed out. In the conclusion the writer Jiří Zeman is classified into wider literary context
Discourse Analysis of Political Attitudes of the Czech President Miloš Zeman and far-right political parties
No full textThe key research question of my diploma thesis deals with the problem of whether the President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman creates the same discourse as far-right political parties in the Czech Republic. The research concerns the social discourse surrounding the current migration crisis facing Europe. In this connection, there is a discourse analysis of the themes of migration, Islam, terrorism, external and internal actors. This research is conducted on the basis of the theory of binaries from Teun Van Dijk, which can be applied to a populist political style characterized by President Zeman and extreme right-wing political parties, among which are analyzed the Workers' Party of Social Justice, National Democracy, Dawn - the National Coalition, Freedom And Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura and the Citizens' Rights Party. Research data is collected from President Zeman's official communications channels and political parties, including official websites and social networks. Based on a discourse analysis of their political views, it is possible to compare President Zeman and the extreme right-wing parties to each topic and to conclude whether they speak the same or differently about these themes

No full textMiloš Zeman as the first directly elected president is among the most significant personalities of the Czech political scene and he is also one of the most capable speakers of the post-communist era. Public speeches are almost the only medium for communication between the president and the public. The thesis aims to analyse the presidential speeches of Miloš Zeman. The relevant period for this research was set to 8.3. 2013-31.12. 2014. The author analysed the speeches in terms of structure, length of sentences, figures of speech used, vocabulary, argumentation, manipulative and persuasive techniques and recurring themes. In the end of the paper, the author also compared Czech media's interpretation of the speeches with foreign media's interpretation
