A CIM study on bearing assembly company

    No full text
In today's environment, the computer hard disk is extensively used for information storage, and the precision of the component is highly dependent on the suppliers' manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies. In this project, the author studies a bearing assembly company, a supplier of high precision and volume components to the hard disk manufacturers. The company's efficiency is depended on three main operation stages: design, production and material management. To elevate its production efficiency, four main areas are being discussed in this report. First of all, the implementation of concurrent engineering and quality function deployment will help the designer to study the customer's voice and requirement collectively as parts of the design consideration. Secondly, by understanding the need to time-to-market and elaborates how a product can be launched ahead of the competitors concept. This will establish the company to be both the technology and the price leader. Thirdly, in product management, the existing situation is modeled by using the simulation software, Arena, to show realistic situation and to pin down any existing bottleneck. Finally, a study of the quality system that incorporates CIM tool to facilitate and promote operational efficiency.Master of Science (Computer Integrated Manufacturing

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Currently, there are many firms that outsource their logistics function, especially warehousing and transportation to achieve cost savings and other advantages without compromising the service level to their customers. This dissertation explores a firm (ABC Enterprising) that outsource its warehouse and distribution function to a third party logistic provider.Master of Science (Logistics

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

    Customer-service management : a case in a multi-national company

The approach of customer relationship management is to enhance the selected group of customers’ experience with a company’s products and services through retention of these customers. The strategy is employed to win the mind-share of customers and translate that into long-term profitability of the company through repeated product ownership, recommendations or services. By using this strategy and approach, customers will have the tendencies to stay longer with the company through subsequent product or service repurchases and will recommend the company’s products and services to others.Master of Science (Logistics

Enhanced warehouse layout planning to improve throughput efficency

This dissertation investigated the situation of a case study factory and the issues that arose due to inappropriate or outdated layouts that could no longer meet the new demand and requirements of the increased and huge volume of materials that flow through its factory. In order to analyze and understand the new requirements, it also studied the way the materials were procured and delivered to its stores.Master of Science (Logistics

    Strategic management of product development

The study of new product success and failure has been a focus of academic researchers for several years. A 1993 study of product development performance measures identified 61 research projects concerned with discovering the factors leading to product development success. However, these studies use different measures and cover a variety of industries and market situations[12].Master of Science (Computer Integrated Manufacturing
